Although Xiang Ping slowly stood up, not a shred of humanity could be seen in his eyes, only a hollow emptiness.
Step, step, step!
Xiang Ping merely cast a glance at Zhao Jin before turning and walking away.
Zhao Jin frowned slightly as he watched the other man's retreating figure. However, seeing that the golden light still lingered above Xiang Ping's head, he stopped worrying.
‘Oh well. It's my first time using it, so I'm bound to be clumsy. I'll get better after a few more tries,’ Zhao Jin thought, shaking his head slightly.
After using his ability, some information about Xiang Ping appeared in his consciousness.
Xiang Ping
Status: Conscious mind deceased, leaving only a body driven by the instinct to feed!
Race: To be named
Staring at the unnamed race, Zhao Jin focused his mind and gave it a name: ‘Race: Ghoul.’
Unlocked: Ghoul Race!
Ghoul Race: Formed when a human dies with deep resentment and mutates upon receiving the blessing of destiny!
Zhao Jin could not control him. To an ordinary person, this would be an extremely dangerous act.
But to him, it posed no threat at all, because he was Undying.
As long as the other party remained active, he would obtain Destiny Force.
With enough Destiny Force and an undying body, he would be invincible.
‘I hope you can bring me some surprises,’ Zhao Jin thought, looking at the information in his mind, before turning to leave.
He needed to understand everything about this world, as he was still in the dark about its true nature.
Were there awakened ones or cultivators like in novels? Would they hinder him from gathering Destiny Force?
Step, step, step!
After walking through the dark alleyways for over ten minutes, Zhao Jin suddenly heard hurried footsteps behind him.
The next moment, a sharp object pressed against his lower back.
“Don't move! Move again and I'll gut you!” a fierce voice barked from behind him.
The moon was obscured by clouds, leaving the surroundings pitch-black and impossible to see clearly.
An amused expression appeared on Zhao Jin's face. “This world is truly chaotic. First a shooting, and now a robbery. How fascinating.”
Behind Zhao Jin, a blonde youth—whose silhouette was barely visible in the dark—listened to his words.
Anger flashed across the blonde's face. “Are you fucking deaf? I told you not to move! Hand over your money, or my hand might just slip and stab you!”
“Go ahead and stab me, then,” Zhao Jin said casually, turning his head to look back.
In his eyes, the dark environment was as clear as day.
“Fuck you!” Enraged by Zhao Jin's provocation, the blonde lunged and drove his dagger hard into Zhao Jin's kidney.
But Zhao Jin felt no pain at all, only a cold, icy sensation.
Behind him, the blonde waited for a scream of agony, but the man didn't react in the slightest.
Just then, the clouds in the sky drifted away, and the moonlight spilled down.
The blonde witnessed the most terrifying sight of his life. The back of the man's head was missing a huge chunk, leaving a gaping hole through which he could see the street ahead.
His body began to tremble. He instinctively pulled out his dagger, only to find not a single trace of blood on it, despite being absolutely sure he had stabbed the man.
Zhao Jin turned around, a bizarre smile playing on his lips. “Oh? You look quite terrified.”
Above the blonde's head hovered only a faint speck of golden light. Taking a step back, his voice shook. “Y-You're... you're not human...”
Zhao Jin's left hand shot out, clamping tightly around the youth's throat. He said calmly, “I'm just missing a piece of my brain. How does that make me not human? You're a funny guy. Where's your phone?”
After transmigrating, Zhao Jin's strength had become terrifyingly immense.
With just a slight squeeze, the blonde's face turned beet red. He gasped for air, feeling as if his neck was about to snap.
“Mmph! Mmph!” He desperately patted his pants pocket.
After Zhao Jin fished out a black phone, his left hand suddenly clenched.
Crack!
The blonde's neck was snapped clean in half, and Zhao Jin casually tossed the corpse aside.
Zhao Jin unlocked the phone and began researching this world's current state as he walked.
Step, step, step!
A few minutes after he left, heavy footsteps echoed in the darkness.
The Ghoul, Xiang Ping, stared at the corpse on the ground. He dropped to his knees, reached out, and ripped open the blonde's shirt, exposing his chest.
Staring at the chest before him, Xiang Ping opened his mouth, revealing razor-sharp teeth.
Squelch! Squelch!
In the darkness, the sounds of tearing raw flesh and guttural swallowing echoed continuously.
A moment later, Xiang Ping stood up and walked in another direction.
His nose twitched slightly. Scenting the lingering trail left by the two gunmen, he headed off.
Half an hour later, inside a brightly lit single-story house in the suburbs, a black German Shepherd was chained near the entrance.
Two masked gunmen pushed open the iron gate and strode inside.
Inside, a middle-aged, balding man with a bare torso and black shorts sat in the middle of the room.
In front of him stood a small table laden with various meat dishes.
The balding man looked up at them. “You're back.”
“Boss, the kid is dead,” one of the masked men said as he pulled off his mask, revealing an ordinary-looking face.
The other also removed his mask. With a fierce gaze, he nodded at the balding man. “That brat ran into an alley thinking he could escape. Hilarious.”
“Come, let's drink! That kid was worth two million. It's enough for the three of us to live like kings for a year,” the balding man said with a grin, picking up a bottle of alcohol from the floor.
The two younger men sat down as well, grabbing bottles and chugging.
This was their secret base. No outsider knew of it, making it absolutely safe.
Who knew how much time had passed, but just as the three of them were flushed and thoroughly drunk, the German Shepherd outside began to whimper, as if it had encountered something terrifying.
“Fucking dog! What's it whining about in the middle of the night!” the fierce-looking youth grumbled, standing up in annoyance.
He walked quickly to the iron gate. Though he was a bit tipsy, he still peered out warily through the small peephole.
However, he didn't see anyone outside. Only the dog was staring intently at the gate, whimpering as it pulled the chain completely taut.
Seeing this, the fierce-looking youth yanked open the iron gate, intending to teach the dog a lesson.
Squelch!
A pair of hands, moving like a blur, suddenly plunged into his chest.
A look of agony washed over the youth's face. Before he could react, the hands violently yanked back, presenting a still-beating heart right before his eyes.
“You...” Staring at the 'person' in front of him, the youth collapsed, his face frozen in sheer terror.
Xiang Ping walked in, his expression completely blank.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Within seconds, gunshots erupted inside.
“Monster! It's a monster!”
“Ahhh!”
The next moment, the gunshots ceased. Panicked screams and shrieks echoed, but within a second, they abruptly cut short.
Squelch! Squelch!
Then came the sound of flesh being torn and swallowed.
