Night.
In a coastal city within the Nanming Kingdom.
“I'm so tired... Where on earth is this?” On a street with sparse lampposts, a pale young man walked aimlessly.
Zhao Jin stared in confusion at the writing on the storefronts. It wasn't Chinese, but it looked very similar.
He had only closed his eyes for a moment, yet he seemed to have arrived in a completely different world. His phone and other personal belongings were gone, and he felt a chilling breeze blowing through his forehead and the back of his head.
Not far away, a tired-looking woman in red was walking toward him. Above her head, Zhao Jin could see a faint golden glow.
Though he had no idea what the golden light was, he quickened his pace and approached her, wanting to ask what kind of world this was.
“Do you wish to change your destiny?” But the words that came out of his mouth meant something else entirely. Zhao Jin froze, startled by his own voice.
It was not just him; the woman in red opposite him reacted similarly upon seeing Zhao Jin suddenly appear in front of her.
Her expression twisted in horror, her pupils dilated, and her face grew visibly pale.
The next moment, a blood-curdling shriek erupted from her throat: “A ghost!!!”
She spun around and bolted, screaming as she ran, “There's a ghost! A ghost!”
Her screaming drew the attention of the few pedestrians on the street, who all turned to look at Zhao Jin.
But the moment they saw Zhao Jin's back, their expressions changed.
A middle-aged man in black instinctively rubbed his eyes. Staring at Zhao Jin's silhouette under the streetlamp, his voice trembled. “Are you kidding me? How is he still walking in that state?”
It was too bizarre. Before the figure could notice him, the man spun around and fled down the other side of the street.
He wasn't the only one. Everyone on the street who caught sight of Zhao Jin fled.
Terrified, they didn't dare make a sound, fearing they would draw Zhao Jin's attention.
Soon, the already quiet street became completely deserted because of Zhao Jin's appearance.
Zhao Jin had no time to worry about them. He felt that something was seriously wrong with his body, not to mention the words that had just slipped out of his mouth.
He instinctively turned to look at a glass window on his left. Through the reflection, Zhao Jin saw a pale young man staring back.
There was a hole about four or five centimeters wide in the young man's forehead. Through the hole, the street scene behind him was clearly visible.
He raised his right hand and felt the back of his head. It was hollow. When he reached slightly inside, he found only a tiny bit of brain tissue left, and he felt absolutely nothing.
Zhao Jin fell silent. He had to admit that not only had he transmigrated, but his body had also undergone a terrifying change.
A normal person would have died long ago.
Just then, a golden status panel appeared before him.
Zhao Jin
Status: Undying!
Destiny Force: 5 strands! (A power capable of altering the destiny of all things. Has a chance to be acquired by changing the destiny of others.)
Lifespan: 5 days! (You have transcended the realm of mortals. Your lifespan is tied to your Destiny Force.)
The panel was simple, but Zhao Jin's expression grew grim. He only had five days left to live.
Under the streetlamp, Zhao Jin raised his left hand. A faint golden glow appeared in his palm, dispelling some of the surrounding darkness.
Staring at the Destiny Force before him, a sense of urgency gripped Zhao Jin: 'The priority right now is to survive. I must obtain more Destiny Force.'
Wee-woo! Wee-woo!
The wail of a siren suddenly echoed from down the street. Zhao Jin quickly moved, slipping into a nearby alleyway.
Just seconds after he left, a black law enforcement vehicle pulled up not far from where he had been standing.
Two inspectors dressed in black quickly got out of the car. The middle-aged inspector leading them scanned the street with an annoyed expression. “In the middle of the night, what are those people going crazy about? There's no monster here.”
“Brother Li, I bet those people were just high and hallucinating. Let's head back. We were about to clock out, and now we had to make this extra trip.” The younger inspector got out of the driver's seat, took a quick look around, and then climbed back in.
The middle-aged inspector snapped a couple of photos to report back, then followed suit.
Wee-woo! Wee-woo!
The patrol car drove off.
On the other side, Zhao Jin had already turned several corners inside the alleyways.
There were no streetlights here; the only illumination came from the light spilling out of the windows of the houses on either side.
“After him! Don't let him escape!” an angry shout echoed from the distance.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Gunshots rang out from time to time, and the sounds were rapidly drawing closer to Zhao Jin's position.
Zhao Jin stood motionless in the darkness, his eyes narrowing slightly.
In the alley ahead, a young man in his twenties wearing white clothes was running toward him, a dense golden light hovering above his head.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Suddenly, gunshots rang out again, and the young man's white clothes were instantly stained red.
After stumbling a few more steps, he collapsed heavily a few meters away from Zhao Jin.
Behind him, two masked gunmen looked at the fallen youth. Without a word, they raised their pistols to finish him off.
Bang! Bang...!
They fired seven or eight more times, completely shredding the youth's back. A pool of blood quickly gathered beneath him.
“Retreat!” Satisfied with their work, the gunmen turned and vanished.
With this level of blood loss and trauma, even if he were right outside a hospital, he wouldn't survive.
“Haa... haa...” The young man in white lay on the ground, his breathing shallow and rapid. His vision blurred as the world around him slowly faded to black.
Suddenly, a pair of black leather shoes stepped out from the corner.
Although he knew he was beyond saving, an intense desire to live drove him to squeeze out his last ounce of strength. “Save... save me...”
“Your situation seems very critical. Do you wish to change your destiny?” a calm voice asked.
Zhao Jin looked at the golden light above the young man's head. It was at least ten times more intense than the woman's.
The young man could not move his head, so he could only roll his eyes upward, trying to get a clear look at the newcomer's face.
Suddenly, the figure leaned in, and the gaping hole in his forehead caused the young man's pupils to contract. 'What on earth is this thing?!'
Yet, the other party simply repeated the same question: “Your situation seems very critical. Do you wish to change your destiny?”
A bizarre, eerie feeling washed over Xiang Ping's heart. He gave a bitter, silent laugh. 'At this point, whether it's a god or a ghost, I don't care anymore.'
Just two days ago, he was still an inspector in the city. But because he had investigated something he shouldn't have,
he was fired yesterday, and today he was gunned down by assassins. It was truly pathetic.
Zhao Jin stared at the silent Xiang Ping, a trace of annoyance flashing across his face. Just as he was about to repeat himself,
Xiang Ping's mouth twitched, but no sound came out. His pupils were beginning to dilate.
Instead, a smile spread across Zhao Jin's face. “Understood.”
He reached out his left hand and gently tapped Xiang Ping's head.
Buzz!
A strand of golden light gathered at the tip of his left index finger and flowed into Xiang Ping's head.
Black veins bulged across Xiang Ping's exposed skin. The blood that had been pouring out instantly stopped flowing, and his eyes turned completely pitch-black.
Yet, Zhao Jin frowned in dissatisfaction. 'Is he dead?'
