“Ah... I really wanted to go down there too.”
Lin Ling squatted at the edge of the field, watching Mrs. Nashi teach Leticia how to use the tools.
Yet she could only squat by the side and watch.
This feeling was simply too cruel.
The field was right there in front of her.
The tools were right next to her.
She only had to take a few steps forward to personally experience the great moment of progress for the Demon King's Castle's agricultural civilization.
And yet, she was forbidden from entering.
Lin Ling gritted her teeth, a look of profound grief on her face.
“I feel like an incompetent husband right now.”
She clutched her chest.
“This beautiful field is sitting right there, looking so fresh and tempting.”
“Yet I can only watch from the sidelines.”
“Do you understand this feeling, Phelan?”
Lin Ling turned around to look behind her, tears welling in her eyes.
She had already worked out her plan.
The moment Phelan showed even a hint of hesitation, she would immediately seize the opportunity to employ Miss Saintess's art of persuasion.
For instance, squatting on the ground and clinging to his leg.
Or using her rabbit ears to assault his conscience.
But when Lin Ling turned her head to look at Phelan, who was supposed to be taking notes behind her, she saw a blue-haired woman gently laying Phelan flat onto the ground.
Phelan's recording board lay discarded nearby.
The recording crystal had also rolled quietly onto the grass.
Lin Ling's pupils contracted sharply.
In the next instant, a red light flashed in her eyes.
“Who... are you?”
Her voice grew instantly cold.
She was completely different from the girl who had just been whining about not being allowed into the field.
The blue-haired woman slowly raised her head.
She looked incredibly exhausted.
Dark circles hung heavily beneath her eyes, and she looked as if she might lean against something and fall asleep at any moment.
Yet within those drowsy eyes gleamed a pair of golden slit pupils.
Those slit pupils were fixed on Lin Ling.
“Have you forgotten me already, Hero?”
The woman let out a yawn.
“We only just met at the summoning ceremony, after all.”
Lin Ling stared at her for a few seconds.
Then, she seemed to suddenly recall something.
Back when she was summoned to Camillaya, the bishops had gathered around her, saying all sorts of things.
Some were disappointed and dissatisfied.
Others looked at her as if she were trash.
Meanwhile, this woman had seemingly been lurking off to the side, looking completely indifferent to everything.
Seeing Lin Ling deep in thought, the woman's expression turned slightly subtle.
“Well, whatever. Doesn't matter.”
She scratched her messy blue hair and glanced toward the field.
Mrs. Nashi was still teaching Leticia how to hold the tools.
A few beastkin were also still working in the field.
None of them seemed to have noticed what was happening over here.
The woman gazed at the small experimental field.
“Oh? It seems life in the Demon King's Castle is pretty decent.”
“You can even farm now?”
Her gaze drifted back to Lin Ling.
“Your masterpiece?”
Lin Ling did not answer.
She simply stared at the woman before her.
The red glow in her eyes grew deeper and deeper.
Yet the woman seemed utterly unconcerned by the magic power steadily gathering around Lin Ling.
As if finally remembering something, she gave a lazy wave of her hand.
“Ah, right. I forgot to introduce myself.”
“I'm Furni.”
“For now... I suppose I'm a bishop.”
By the time Furni finished declaring herself a bishop, magic power was already beginning to condense in Lin Ling's palm.
The magic in the air seemed to be forcibly pulled by something, swirling rapidly toward Lin Ling.
“Bishop...”
Lin Ling softly repeated the word.
She looked at Phelan lying on the ground, then toward Leticia and Mrs. Nashi in the field.
Watching her reaction, Furni's golden slit pupils narrowed slightly.
“Maybe I should just get rid of you right now.”
She spoke casually.
As if they were discussing what to have for lunch.
“It would save a lot of trouble.”
With that, she glanced back at the people in the field.
“But there are still so many people in the field.”
“Oh well. Wouldn't it be easier if I just killed them all together?”
Furni stared at Lin Ling with a calculating gaze.
She was observing.
Observing how Lin Ling would react to those words.
And the moment the words left her mouth...
The magic power around Lin Ling completely erupted.
“I won't let you do that.”
In the next instant, Lin Ling thrust her hand toward Furni.
A white light flared beneath their feet.
By the time the people in the field sensed something was wrong and looked over, the edge of the field was already empty.
Only Phelan remained, laid out on the ground next to his fallen recording board.
After a flash of white light...
Lin Ling and Furni materialized on the plains where she had previously trained in magic with Baroque.
Several craters blasted by magic power could still be seen on the ground.
Furni scanned her surroundings.
Then, her gaze returned to Lin Ling.
“Teleportation magic?”
A hint of seriousness finally crept into her eyes.
“It seems even the eyes of the dragon race cannot see through your stats?”
She still remembered the stats she had seen during the summoning ceremony.
With that level of mana, she shouldn't have been able to support a slightly complex spell, let alone teleportation magic.
Yet now, Lin Ling had not only used it...
...but had done so incredibly fast.
“Oh well, whatever.”
Furni sighed.
“I'll kill you first.”
“Then I'll go back and completely destroy all of your masterpieces.”
She looked at Lin Ling, deliberately framing her words as maliciously as possible.
“How does that sound to you?”
But the moment the words left her mouth, a sphere of pure magic energy was already flying toward her face.
It was too fast.
Before Furni could even raise her hand, the magic sphere slammed into her.
“Boom!”
Dust from the plains billowed high into the air.
Furni took the direct hit of the magic sphere and skidded backward a great distance.
The hand she had raised had already transformed into a part of her true form during the explosion.
Dragon scales covered her arm.
Yet those scales, which should have been incredibly tough, were actually chipping and peeling away.
Several shattered dragon scales fell to the ground.
Furni looked down at her hand.
Then she looked back up at Lin Ling.
“Hey, hey...”
Her voice was finally stripped of its previous laziness.
“Are you for real?”
Dragon scales were the absolute pride of the dragon race's defense.
Even high-tier human magic could barely leave a scratch on them.
Yet that single blow just now had actually stripped away her scales.
The corner of Furni's eye twitched.
“Wait—wait!”
She raised her other hand, seemingly trying to get Lin Ling to stop.
But Lin Ling's eyes burned with an almost uncontrollable murderous intent.
In the next instant, Lin Ling, who had been standing far away, suddenly vanished.
When she reappeared, she was already floating in midair.
And around her, dozens of magic spheres had materialized.
Every single sphere was compressing.
Spinning.
Emitting a heavy hum that weighed down the very air.
“Everyone is finally able to eat...”
Lin Ling's voice trembled slightly.
Her tone was thick with fury at Furni's words.
“Everything is finally starting to get better!”
“And yet you want to destroy all of it?!”
Her expression was bordering on hysterical.
It was as if something she cherished deeply, something she had painstakingly built piece by piece, was being threatened with total destruction right before her eyes.
The fields, the food.
The smiles of the children and Mrs. Nashi.
All of these flashed through Lin Ling's mind.
Then, the magic spheres around her rained down on Furni like a tempest.
“Wait, I was only—”
Before Furni could finish her sentence, the first magic sphere crashed down.
Then the second.
Then the third.
Sphere after sphere pelted down like a torrential downpour.
Each one carried an utterly absurd amount of magic power.
For the first time in her incredibly long life, Furni felt the true threat of death.
“Haha...”
The corner of her mouth twitched.
“In my next life, I am never provoking a Hero again.”
Left with no choice, Furni was forced back into her true form.
A massive draconic silhouette unfurled amidst the rising dust.
Her golden slit pupils flared as countless layers of defense magic unfurled before her.
Immediately after, Lin Ling's magic spheres bombarded her.
