"Clack, clack!"
Suisui's bone claws urgently pawed at Li Nanzhu's hem, the soul fire in her eye sockets dancing wildly. Her head kept darting toward the small pile of blue crystals that belonged to Li Nanzhu.
Li Nanzhu crouched down, dangling a piece of the faint blue crystal between her fingers in front of the creature. "In such a hurry? You want to eat this?"
Suisui nodded frantically, her bone claws clicking and clacking as she gestured. In her haste, her left foot tripped over her right, and with a loud clatter, she collapsed into a heap of bones.
Feng Qingping burst out laughing. "This little thing... is she really willing to risk her life for a bite to eat?"
Li Nanzhu quickly helped reassemble her skeleton, musing, "The fact that she could spot these crystals immediately means they must have a special attraction for her."
Upon hearing this, Suisui's soul fire leapt with even more excitement. Clearly, Li Nanzhu's words had hit the mark.
"However, until I know whether these will be a burden on you, you can only eat them one by one, understand?" Li Nanzhu poked Suisui's skull before handing her a piece of the blue crystal.
Suisui shook her skull with a series of clacks, her bone claws carefully taking the blue crystal from Li Nanzhu as if she were holding a rare treasure.
She hesitated for a moment, appearing to think, before simply stuffing the crystal into her hollow chest cavity.
"Click."
"Eh?" Feng Qingping's eyes widened. "How did she eat it?"
As the crystal dropped into the framework of the skeleton, Suisui's body shuddered. A very faint blue light suddenly washed over the gaps between her bones. Her originally grayish-white bone surface seemed slightly more lustrous than before, as if coated in a thin layer of frost.
"The bones have brightened." Feng Weilan reached out and lightly tapped Suisui's arm bone. "The texture seems harder as well."
Suisui had already huffily slapped his finger away and hidden behind Li Nanzhu. She shielded herself with her bone claws, her soul fire flickering warily as if to say, 'Don't touch me!'
Li Nanzhu couldn't help but laugh. "It seems there really is a change."
Jiang Yifan looked thoughtful. "Does this crystal have a strengthening effect on a bone spirit?"
Once certain that Suisui was fine, Li Nanzhu handed her a few more pieces of the blue crystal.
This time Suisui didn't hesitate, grabbing the crystals and stuffing them into her chest.
"Click, click, click..."
Piece after piece went in, and Suisui's bones gradually became smoother, even faintly emitting a jade-like luster. However, beyond that, there were no more dramatic changes.
"Strange." Feng Qingping rested her chin on her hand. "Logically, crystals that can directly strengthen a spiritual body should have a very significant effect. Why is it that after eating so many, Suisui's bones have only brightened a little?"
Li Nanzhu knew the reason—Suisui had the Life-Giving Creation Pearl inside her. That was a top-tier supreme treasure compared to which even a profound dark stone was merely a 'snack.' While these crystals were precious, compared to the Life-Giving Creation Pearl, they were likely not even an appetizer.
Of course, she wouldn't say that aloud. She simply tilted her head in feigned confusion. "Perhaps... Suisui is special?"
Suisui clacked her head in a nod, as if in agreement.
Jiang Yifan stared at Suisui for a few seconds before suddenly saying, "Try spitting out some ice mist."
Suisui tilted her head, seemingly thinking, and then—
"Pfft!"
A stream of ice mist, slightly denser than before, sprayed from her mouth, forming a small patch of thin frost on the ground. However, its power had not increased significantly.
"Is that it?" Feng Qingping arched an eyebrow. "After eating so many, the ice mist only got a tiny bit stronger?"
Suisui seemed a bit indignant, gesturing with her bone claws.
Li Nanzhu translated, "Suisui says she's already working very hard."
Seeing Suisui looking rather deflated, Li Nanzhu suppressed a smile and rubbed her skull. "It's okay, take it slow."
Feng Weilan added thoughtfully, "Perhaps these crystals are just the icing on the cake for Suisui? After all, she is already quite strong herself."
Jiang Yifan nodded. "It's possible. After all, a special life form like Suisui..." He paused before continuing, "...might be the only one of her kind in the entire cultivation world. It's normal for her to have strange qualities we don't understand."
With two clacks, Suisui suddenly seemed to remember something. Her bone claws reached into her chest cavity and actually fished out another crystal. She had clearly stuffed so many in just now; how could she still pull one out?
Li Nanzhu was startled. "You didn't eat them all?"
Suisui shook her head, gesturing with her claws as if explaining.
Jiang Yifan's mouth fell open. "She couldn't be saving some as snacks, could she?"
Feng Qingping burst into laughter. "Well, she certainly knows how to manage her resources."
Watching Suisui carefully cradle her hidden crystal, Li Nanzhu couldn't resist rubbing her skull again. "No need to save them, you can eat all of these." As she spoke, she pushed her entire pile of blue crystals toward Suisui.
Suisui's soul fire surged two inches higher. Her bone claws hovered in mid-air, not daring to move, as if she were confirming if Li Nanzhu was truly giving her all of these to eat.
After all, she could tell that these blue crystals were extremely precious. If she ate them all, Li Nanzhu would have none left.
"Eat up." Li Nanzhu lightly tapped the creature's cold forehead bone. "My share is yours to do with as you please."
Having received permission, Suisui immediately gathered the crystals into her claws and began clicking and clacking as she stuffed them into her chest like a famished little beast.
As the final crystal vanished into her bones, fine ice-blue light points suddenly erupted from her body. Spiderweb-like ice patterns appeared on her jade-white bones, but in an instant, they were suppressed by some force within her, and her luster gradually became more reserved.
"Oh?" Feng Qingping leaned in to observe. "The ice patterns lasted longer this time."
Suisui let out a burp, exhaling a plume of ice mist that was significantly denser than before. The mist condensed into tiny ice crystals in the air, pattering onto the ground and forming a small patch of thin frost. Although the change was subtle, it was enough to make Suisui spin around in excitement.
Li Nanzhu was about to speak when she saw Suisui's soul fire suddenly turn toward the other three—specifically, it was fixed on the blue crystals in their hands.
Though she knew those belonged to the others, the taste of the crystals was simply too good. Her bone claws rubbed together unconsciously in front of her chest, looking exactly like a child staring longingly at candy. All four of them could feel the yearning written in those empty eye sockets.
"That won't do," Li Nanzhu quickly pressed down on Suisui's skull. "We agreed on one share per person. Those belong to your senior brothers and sister."
Suisui immediately slumped, her soul fire dimming several shades. She hung her head, drawing circles on the ground with a bone claw, making a tiny "clack-clack" sound that sounded incredibly pitiful.
Feng Qingping couldn't help but be amused. "This little thing is quite good at playing the victim."
Unexpectedly, Jiang Yifan stood up and pushed his pile of crystals toward Suisui, leaving only five for himself. "Take them."
"Fourth Senior Brother?" Li Nanzhu was stunned.
This refinery master, who in the original story was described as eccentric and so obsessed with rare materials that he dared to venture into the Blackwater Marsh alone, had actually taken the initiative to give away such rare blue crystals!
