What kind of existence was the God of Light to the Elven Clan?
《Silverglow Annals: Genesis》 recorded:
【When the seventh moon tide swept across the astral rifts,
The God of Light descended from the heavens,
Planting the branch of the World Tree in the heart of the earth.
Its growth rings swallowed the twilight line, growing again and again,
Its resin condensing into a hanging amber temple,
Its roots wrapping around the fiery neck of the earth's core.
Until the pulse of time nurtured the throb of life,
And a hundred thousand emerald eyes opened from the fruit,
By divine creation, elves were born into the world.】
The God of Light planted the branch of the World Tree, which was how the Elven Clan came to be.
In the beginning, the elves had no sense of self. They were gentle and submissive, bathing in the holy light and enjoying the protection of the God of Light.
Ning Busan believed that the God of Light treated the Elven Valley entirely as his back garden, and the Elven Clan as the pets he kept.
Until Faelo's appearance changed everything.
Under Faelo's iron-blooded reforms, the Elven Clan began using bows and arrows, gradually grew stronger, and began to possess the ability to protect themselves.
Yet even so, the Elven Clan still fanatically worshipped the God of Light, refusing to allow anyone to insult their deity.
The erasure of Faelo's traces from the 《Silverglow Annals》 was not because he had murdered another prospective crown prince, but because he had ruled the Elven Clan for a century as a dark fallen elf.
To the Elven Clan, the God of Light was like the moon and the stars.
Yet Faelo, who betrayed the light, had become the Elven King, which was a tremendous disgrace to the Elven Clan.
If someone were to tell Ning Busan one day that the Elven Clan had changed their faith to another deity, Ning Busan would certainly scoff and dismiss it as fake.
Yet this was exactly what Elvin had said.
Ning Busan took a long moment to process before saying, “I would rather suspect you saw it wrong than believe this is true.”
Elvin said gloomily, “After seeing that scene, I almost broke down.”
When he was young, his beloved elders had told him how great the divine radiance of the God of Light was.
But after he became a loyal believer of the God of Light, those very elders were the first to abandon their faith.
The question Ning Busan was most concerned about was actually: “Who is the deity they are worshipping?”
“I don't know.” Elvin scratched his head. “After having a huge argument with them, I left the Elven Valley, only keeping in touch with Silvin. Later, I was plotted against by humans, got heavily injured, and met Isabella.”
“Ning Busan, do you think Silvin's plague could be... a punishment sent by the God of Light?”
“No,” Ning Busan flatly denied his words. “The God of Light is great and benevolent. How could he do such a thing? Elvin, how can you doubt the deity of your own faith?”
Pausing, Ning Busan said with rich emotion, “Oh~ Praise the God of Light!”
Elvin was dazed by this sudden move and followed suit, saying, “Praise the God of Light!”
Ning Busan looked at Elvin with pitying eyes.
He praised the God of Light because he was worried the God of Light was currently watching him.
Why was this kid being so foolish as to copy him?
Even if this plague wasn't the God of Light's doing, the God of Light had definitely condoned it.
His back garden was about to become someone else's; he didn't believe the God of Light hadn't noticed at all.
“If it really is a plague, Silvin certainly won't be the only elf to end up like that,” Ning Busan said in a low voice. “We still don't know how the plague is spreading. Prepare yourself.”
Elvin clenched his fists, his eyes dimming.
Upon returning home, Ning Busan and Elvin stared dumbfounded at the scene before them, hardly able to believe their eyes.
With an elegant, shy smile playing on her lips, Isabella was chatting merrily with a beautiful, tall female elf.
Ning Busan had seen Isabella's spoiled and willful side, so seeing her current attempt to act like a proper lady was truly an eyesore.
Elvin looked completely terrified. “Mother, what are you doing here?”
“You still have the nerve to ask?” The moment Olivia saw him, her face flipped faster than the pages of a book, her expression filled with disgust. “Why didn't you invite me when you got married?”
“No, that's not...”
Just as Elvin was about to explain, Isabella clung to Olivia's arm and coaxed softly, “Mother, please don't blame Elvin~”
Olivia made no effort to hide her affection for Isabella, instantly breaking into a wide smile. “For your sake, I won't hold it against him today.”
With that, she glared at Elvin. “Listen up. You must treat Isabella well from now on. No bullying her, or I'll skin you alive!”
“How could I ever dare to bully her...” Elvin muttered softly.
Ning Busan really couldn't understand.
A spoiled, willful young lady pretending to be a gentle, sweet sweetheart could win over her future mother-in-law so easily?
So Elvin was still the most miserable one, wasn't he?
No doubt, in this household from now on, he would forever be at the very bottom of the food chain.
Olivia shifted her gaze to Ning Busan. “You're that human who made those arrogant claims, aren't you?”
Ning Busan offered an awkward yet polite smile.
Yesterday, in order to enter the Elven Valley, he had claimed he was entrusted by an old friend to help resolve a crisis that threatened to wipe out the Elven Clan.
He guessed this statement had aroused the suspicions of the Elven Clan, and Olivia would surely test his identity.
Sure enough, Olivia let out a soft huff. “Why don't you tell me, then? Who is this old friend of yours?”
Ning Busan smiled. “You definitely wouldn't know them.”
The average lifespan of the Elven Clan was between eight thousand and ten thousand years. Even if the elves who knew Faelo hadn't kicked the bucket, there wouldn't be many left alive in this world.
“Is there an elf in the Elven Clan I don't know?” Scrutiny filled Olivia's eyes, clearly feeling that Ning Busan was not telling the truth.
Elvin quickly changed the subject. “Mother, why didn't Father come with you?”
“Him? Oh, he's busy.”
“What is Father busy with?”
“In seven days, the Spirit Blessing Festival will be held. Your father is an elder, after all, so he's preparing for it.”
The Spirit Blessing Festival was an elven holiday. On that day, all elves would gather together to dance around the Elven Mother Tree, offering sincere hymns to it.
The Elven Mother Tree would also bestow blessings upon underage elves, making them stronger.
Elvin frowned. “That's not right. Shouldn't the Spirit Blessing Festival still be three months away?”
“It was moved up this year,” Olivia said casually. “After the Spirit Blessing Festival, you will take the underage elves to the human world.”
Elvin's pupils contracted sharply. “Why?”
“Why so many questions? This is a task ordered by the King, to let the underage elves gain some experience in the human world before returning,” Olivia said.
“You've lived in the human world for so long, so you must protect your younger brothers and sisters well.”
As she spoke these words, Olivia's face was beaming with smiles, showing absolutely no flaws.
If Elvin hadn't known about the plague, he certainly wouldn't have thought much of it, but the problem was that he already knew the truth.
The Elven King wanted him to lead the underage elves out of the Elven Valley after the Spirit Blessing Festival.
What about the other elves, then?
Could it be that they had all already contracted the plague?
