What is inside the eyes of the God of Light?
Believers see their lifelong aspirations in his eyes, while sinners are exposed before him as if bared under the Mirror of Truth, with nowhere to hide.
But at times, it can also become a cage.
Only, this cage was covered in purple and white flowers, with a long table laden with all kinds of delicacies and fragrant fruit wines.
Golden runes flowed all around, emitting a gentle and pure power that would not harm demons.
It did not look like a prison, but rather like a venue for afternoon tea.
Lucifer had absolutely no awareness of being a prisoner, enjoying the food on the table with a clear conscience.
He knew the God of Light would release him soon.
The Lord of Hell could not leave Hell for too long, or else Hell would fall into turmoil, and the God of Light certainly would not want to see that happen.
Just as he expected, it didn't take long before the God of Light arrived.
Pulling a long face, Lucifer said, “Surya, let me out!”
Surya was the name of the God of Light.
And those who knew his true, honorable name could be counted on one hand.
Surya said softly, “We haven't met in a long time, Lucifiel.”
“Do not call me by that name.” Lucifer clenched his fists, his voice somewhat dry. “Lucifiel has already fallen. I am Lucifer now.”
Surya said, “Even so, I am still your Father God.”
The deity's gaze was loving and compassionate, a gentleness in which even a dying beast cub would peacefully fall asleep.
But Lucifer only felt rage: “From the moment Phoenix fell from Heaven, you ceased to be our Father God.”
Surya said calmly, “That was his own choice.”
“His own choice?” Lucifer curled his lips mockingly.
“My brother, Phoenix, was purer than holy water, kinder than the dawn, and more brilliant than the stars.
“My dear Father God, without your instruction, how could he have possibly chosen to fall from Heaven?”
Surya fell silent.
This was a question he could not answer.
However much love and respect Lucifer had previously held for Surya, he now harbored that much hatred after learning of Phoenix's fall.
Lucifer continued:
“After being banished to Hell, Phoenix lost his memories and took the new name of Satan. He became the king ruling over Hell, achieving your so-called balance of light and darkness.
“Don't think I don't know your plans. You turned him into a human just to guide him back to Heaven.
“But did you ever ask for his consent? Did you ever ask for mine?”
Lucifer's eyes filled with rage, as if burning with a hellfire that could incinerate everything, fierce and menacing.
The cage door opened, and Surya said, “It is time for you to return to Hell.”
This meeting was once again unpleasant.
Lucifer's gaze was cold and dark as he snorted disdainfully.
You want me to go back to Hell, so I just go back?
Why should I listen to you?
I absolutely refuse to go back!
After Lucifer left, Surya stood alone in the flower-filled cage, his figure desolate and lonely.
He was a deity, yet he still possessed human emotions.
Phoenix had fallen, and Lucifiel had perished.
His most beloved youngest son and his proudest eldest son had left him one after another.
At this moment, a dark shadow appeared behind Surya.
The shadow already possessed half of a complete body, while the remaining part consisted of irregular lines.
Perhaps in the near future, he would fully take shape.
But there was a saying in Heaven: Under the illumination of the Holy Light, all darkness and shadows have nowhere to hide.
The God of Light was never supposed to have a shadow.
...
Roman Lane.
Ning Busan sat in the middle, with Novalia and Saige sitting to his left and right respectively, staring at him like tigers watching their prey.
Ning Busan shifted uncomfortably. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“I've already investigated. Phil bribed a ritual official, which is how the gemstone on the crown was successfully swapped,” Novalia said. “I really didn't expect you to actually kill William in broad daylight.”
Ning Busan said, “He tampered with the crown to interrupt the Holy Spirit Festival, nothing more than wanting to draw public outrage against me so he could execute me publicly.
“He wanted to kill me. I couldn't just not fight back, right?”
Ning Busan felt that he had always had a good temper, but when it came to life and death, he would never let off anyone who wanted to harm him.
“Besides, isn't it perfect that William is dead? This way, you become the sole royal heir.” Ning Busan smiled.
“The divine right of kings—I am an envoy personally appointed by the deity. As long as I recognize your existence, those nobles won't be foolish enough to oppose you again.
“When the time comes, even if you want to abolish the hereditary peerage system, they will have no choice but to compromise. Perhaps they're already starting to think about how to align themselves with you right now.”
Novalia said, “No matter what those nobles think, His Majesty and the Queen will definitely not let you off.”
Ning Busan smiled slightly. “Then let them come.”
Since he had already killed William, dealing with those two would just be a matter of convenience.
“Do you have nothing to say to me?” Saige said quietly. “When those two major figures appeared, you didn't seem very surprised.”
Ning Busan gave a dry laugh.
“I don't know what is so special about you that you would attract both the Hell faction and the Heaven faction to fight over you,” Saige said. “But I want to know, which side will you choose to stand on?”
Ning Busan replied without hesitation, “Naturally, the Light faction.”
Saige and Novalia breathed a sigh of relief at the same time.
It's good that it's the Light faction.
The two of them had actually been very worried that Ning Busan would join the Hell faction. After all, compared to the Light faction, those demons were indeed far too ruthless and cruel.
In truth, there was a reason why Ning Busan answered this way.
The God of Light had said that he would always be watching him.
So, what to say and what not to say—did he not have a clear grasp of that in his own mind?
