Ten thousand years ago, Satan suddenly vanished without a trace. No demon knew where he had gone, nor did any know what had happened.
But Lucifer had a faint inkling of the truth.
Before Satan's disappearance, Lucifer had seen the God of Light in Hell.
He was certain that Satan's disappearance was inextricably linked to the God of Light.
Lucifer stared at the strange yet familiar Satan before him, wondering what on earth had transpired over the last ten thousand years to reduce the once-mighty Lord of Hell to such a weak human.
With a grim expression, Lucifer asked, “What did the God of Light do to you?”
Ning Busan: “...”
He was currently pondering whether he should put on the Satan persona.
If he assumed the identity of Satan, he would have to abandon his current identity and return to Hell. Moreover, he would have to come up with an excuse for his ten-thousand-year disappearance.
But if he didn't play along, Lucifer had already recognized him anyway. He would still need to find a reason to explain his current situation.
Looking at things now, however, Lucifer seemed to believe his transformation into a human was related to the God of Light.
Thus, he didn't need to try and deal with Lucifer at all. As long as he maintained his high-and-mighty act, Lucifer would fill in the blanks himself.
The reality turned out exactly as Ning Busan expected. Seeing him remain silent for so long, Lucifer became even more certain of his guess.
It really was the doing of the God of Light!
“What exactly is the God of Light trying to do?” Lucifer fumed, his eyes practically spitting fire. “Satan, what do you plan to do next?”
Ning Busan replied without batting an eye, “I will remain in the human world and find a way to restore my strength.”
Lucifer frowned. “If you stay in the human world, I won't be able to stay by your side to protect you.”
Hell could not go a single day without its master, or the demons below would riot. Thus, he had to return to Hell to maintain order.
Ning Busan wished nothing more than for him to leave immediately. “I don't need protection.”
“No!” Lucifer said displeasedly. “You've already been reduced to this state, so why are you still acting so stubborn?”
Compared to powerful angels and demons, humans were simply too fragile.
With Satan having lost his power, Lucifer could not feel at ease leaving him alone in the human world.
Lucifer said, “I will have the other six Demon Kings guard you.”
Ning Busan's eyelid twitched, and he immediately stopped him. “Before my strength is restored, I don't want to expose my identity for now.”
Lucifer scoffed softly, pointing at the magic pattern Ning Busan had drawn. “Since you don't want to expose your identity, why did you summon me?”
Ning Busan: “...”
At this moment, Ning Busan finally realized that the Lord of Hell Saige had mentioned before did not refer to Satan, but to Lucifer.
The inverted pentagram was actually a symbol pointing to Lucifer.
Ning Busan couldn't reveal the truth. However, well-versed in the PUA tactics of capitalists, he spoke sincerely to Lucifer: “Because you are the only one I trust.”
This wasn't exactly a lie, either.
Back when he was unifying Hell, the other six Demon Kings were either beaten into submission by him or won over by his schemes.
But Lucifer was different. When he first created the Satan account, Lucifer was already by his side, with a loyalty rating of 100%.
He had thought Lucifer was just a companion minion gifted by the system, but this was a real world. Did that mean there was some backstory between Satan and Lucifer that he didn't know about?
Hearing Ning Busan's sweet talk, Lucifer's expression softened slightly.
In truth, if he told the other six Demon Kings that Satan had been found, their obsessive and volatile temperaments might cause a massive ruckus, which could attract the attention of the God of Light.
After pondering for a moment, Lucifer decided to summon a powerful demon nearby at random and task them with protecting Satan's safety.
As luck would have it, Baphomet turned out to be the lucky demon summoned.
Baphomet knelt on one knee, placing his right hand over his chest with an extremely respectful attitude. “Great Lord Lucifer, your loyal servant pays his respects!”
After Satan's disappearance, Lucifer had beaten the other demons into submission and taken the seat of the Lord of Hell.
Before Lucifer, Baphomet was completely submissive and did not dare to act out of line in the slightest.
However, he was very puzzled. Why would Lucifer come to the human world instead of staying in Hell?
“I have a task for you. Protect the human before you and obey his every command,” Lucifer commanded in an arrogant and cold tone, wasting no words.
“If he gets hurt, you're dead!”
Baphomet shuddered and hastily complied. “This subordinate will definitely protect him well.”
Suddenly, Baphomet remembered something and said, “Lord Lucifer, this subordinate saw a twelve-winged archangel in the Dawn Empire.”
He had only seen the twelve massive wings radiating holy light back then, and hadn't seen Ning Busan's face at all.
Ning Busan, suddenly put on the spot: “...”
Holy crap, so you were the demon who tried to assassinate Novalia!
Ning Busan's toes curled in embarrassment. Feeling incredibly guilty, he pretended to know nothing about it.
Upon hearing Baphomet's words, Lucifer's face instantly turned cold. “Are you sure you saw a twelve-winged archangel?”
Baphomet nodded with certainty. “Yes!”
Lucifer sneered.
There was only one twelve-winged archangel in the world, and that was the eldest son of the God of Light—Lucifiel.
He guarded Heaven, spread light, guided all living beings, and upheld justice. He was the undisputed leader of the angels.
Yet Lucifer knew better than anyone that Lucifiel had fallen long ago, and the position of the leader of the angels had been vacant for ten thousand years.
Could the God of Light have created another archangel?
Not wishing to guess what the God of Light was thinking, he plucked a feather from his wing and handed it to Ning Busan:
“No matter what happens, you can use this to contact me at any time. If you run into danger, summon me directly.”
Ning Busan gave a soft hum of agreement.
Beside them, Baphomet's jaw nearly dropped to the floor.
One had to know that when the Demon King of Greed had once stolen a fallen feather from Lord Lucifer, he had been beaten half to death by Lord Lucifer.
Yet now, Lord Lucifer had actually plucked a feather and given it directly to this human!
“I must go,” Lucifer said, staring at Satan with a complex gaze. “No matter what choice you make, I will always stand by your side.”
With that, Lucifer departed.
Ning Busan finally let out a sigh of relief.
Baphomet had no idea what relationship this human had with Lord Lucifer, but since he was so highly regarded by Lord Lucifer, he must possess an extraordinary identity.
Baphomet bowed slightly, his attitude respectful:
“I am Baphomet, a demon of greed. I will obey Lord Lucifer's commands and guard your safety with my life.”
A demon's promise was never to be trusted, but their loyalty and fear toward the Lord of Hell were etched into their very bones.
They would execute commands from the Lord of Hell unconditionally.
Ning Busan said indifferently, “You don't need to follow me around at all times. Tell me how to summon you, and I will call for you when I need you.”
Baphomet nodded obediently. “Yes.”
Once Baphomet left, Ning Busan looked down at the palm of his hand, where an inverted pentagram mark rested.
Though he had drawn Lucifer here, he had also successfully stolen the authority of Hell.
He could now freely use the power of the dark element just like a demon, without the need for magic patterns or a wand.
With a thought, seven golden cards materialized around Ning Busan.
【Friendly Reminder: Using these cards will result in irreversible consequences. Please use with caution!】
Ning Busan stared at the blood-red line of text, sinking into deep thought.
He clearly hadn't used Satan's card, so why had Lucifer recognized him at a single glance?
What exactly did the irreversible consequences refer to?
If he really used these cards... would he still be himself?
