“You’re asking for it!”
The Saint of the Beast Taming Sect was nearly driven to madness by rage. I’m jealous? Jealous of what, you damn turtle?!
“Sigh!” The Old Turtle let out a long, weary sigh. “Look at that, look at that. Jealousy really does make one unrecognizable.”
The Saint of the Beast Taming Sect trembled with fury. Just as he was about to strike and kill the creature, the icy voice of the Tianqi Crown Prince rang out.
“Enough. We have business to attend to.”
“Ah! Right...” The Saint of the Beast Taming Sect, who had been dying to slap the Old Turtle into oblivion, could only nod in agreement after seeing the cold glint in the Crown Prince’s eyes.
He clenched his fists inside his sleeves. He had already decided that he would beat this old turtle to death later, no matter what. Watching the Saint of the Beast Taming Sect suffer such a setback, the Saint of the Desolate Soul Hall couldn't help but curse inwardly: Serves you right!
Lu Ming and his companions watched the scene with twitching lips but said nothing. He wanted to see exactly why the Tianqi Crown Prince was targeting him.
Just then, the Tianqi Crown Prince looked at Lu Ming and asked, “So, you are Sun Xiaosheng of the Huaguoshan lineage?”
Lu Ming didn’t answer him directly. Instead, he offered a slight smile and asked, “And you are that Tianqi Crown Prince who killed his brother, father, and mother to become the Crown Prince?”
He had long since recognized the appearances of the major figures from the top powers through image jade slips. Thus, he identified the Tianqi Crown Prince’s identity at a glance.
The onlookers’ expressions stiffened as they turned to look at the Crown Prince. The air suddenly went still.
The Tianqi Crown Prince was stunned, his eyes widening. Despite his usual composure, he couldn't help but fly into a rage once the words sank in. “I did not kill them! They are perfectly alive and well!”
Lu Ming looked at him with a half-smile. “Oh? So, when do you plan to kill them then?”
“You!” Murderous intent flooded the Crown Prince’s gaze, and he prepared to move.
The Saint of the Beast Taming Sect muttered to himself: Don't get angry now, the business is more important! It's easy for you to say when the knife isn't stuck in your own back; you don't feel the pain...
Just then, the Yunhua Saint spoke up. “Ahem... Greetings, Fellow Daoist Sun. I am the Saint of the Yunhua Sacred Palace. I have not killed my brother, father, or mother... and I won't in the future. They simply reached the end of their lifespans...”
As he introduced himself, the Yunhua Saint couldn't help but curse inwardly. Dammit, since when did introductions become like this?
But he had no choice. They had already agreed that whoever could seize the immortal treasure from Lu Ming’s hands would get to keep it. Both he and the Tianqi Crown Prince intended to try coaxing it out of him first.
Just as the Yunhua Saint thought his introduction was quite perfect, Lu Ming’s devilish voice rang out again. “So, you’re planning to kill your master to prove your Dao?”
The air went silent once more. The Yunhua Saint took a deep breath, suppressing the fury in his heart. “Hand over your weapon!”
He decided to be direct. If he kept talking to this guy, they would all end up being labeled as traitors who murdered their masters and ancestors!
Lu Ming raised an eyebrow. So these people were after his weapon. He didn't quite understand why. After all, in his persona as Sun Xiaosheng, he had only used the Weapon Vault once. Even then, he had only turned it into a staff to compare sizes with a certain giant. No one should have known how powerful his staff was.
“Why?” Lu Ming asked, his eyes flickering.
“Because I like it,” the Yunhua Saint replied expressionlessly.
Lu Ming let out a chuckle. “If I give you the weapon, will you let me go?”
“Absolutely not!” Ji Chen interrupted urgently the moment Lu Ming finished speaking.
Having dealt with these people for so long, he knew exactly what kind of character they had. If Lu Ming handed over the weapon, they would never let him live. Stealing a weapon was second only to stealing someone's wife—it was a deep-seated grudge. He didn't believe for a second that the Crown Prince and his allies would let Lu Ming go.
“Ji Chen, I advise you not to meddle in things that don't concern you,” the Tianqi Crown Prince said, rubbing the ring on his thumb as he looked at Ji Chen.
“Impossible. Sun Xiaosheng is my employer. I will not let you touch him,” Ji Chen said firmly, stepping in front of Lu Ming.
“As long as you stay out of this, we can give you five million mid-grade spirit stones as compensation,” the Crown Prince offered again. He preferred to settle things with spirit stones if possible. The sword cultivators of the Guiyi Sword Sect were all lunatics, and he didn't want to fight them if he could avoid it.
“Impossible! We of the Guiyi Sword Sect have principles when it comes to making money!” Ji Chen refused without hesitation.
Seeing Ji Chen’s stance, Lu Ming and the others felt more confident that this plot had nothing to do with the Guiyi Sword Sect. “So, you all want my weapon?” Lu Ming asked, stepping out from behind Ji Chen.
“Fellow Daoist Sun, don't believe them! Even if you give them the weapon, they won't let you go!” Ji Chen urged anxiously.
“It’s fine,” Lu Ming muttered.
Whoosh!
The moment the words left his lips, the Weapon Vault appeared in Lu Ming’s hand, still in the form of a staff. Seeing the glittering golden staff, the eyes of the Tianqi Crown Prince and his group lit up. Some even began to breathe heavily.
This was an immortal treasure! Seeing their reactions, Lu Ming knew instantly that they had discovered part of his weapon's secret. But how did they find out?
Now was not the time for such thoughts, however.
Boom!
While everyone was staring at the staff in Lu Ming’s hand, the Weapon Vault suddenly expanded. In the blink of an eye, the staff, which had been barely a few feet long, grew massive. The thick golden shaft glinted with a cold, metallic light.
Boom!
Lu Ming controlled the giant staff and swung it down violently toward the Crown Prince’s group! The wind shrieked as the air pressure surged.
None of them had expected Lu Ming to still have spiritual energy. Caught off guard, they had no time to dodge or mount a defense. With a deafening crash, the giant staff slammed into the crowd!
A few who were too slow to react were crushed instantly, their bodies bursting into a spray of blood. However, the Tianqi Crown Prince, the Yunhua Saint, and the others were unharmed. They had managed to leap away the moment the staff descended.
They were also surprised that Lu Ming hadn't been poisoned. As expected, a monkey that the Saintess of the Tiansheng Sect was willing to pay a fortune to kill would not be easy to take down!
“Go!” At that moment, the Saint of the Lingqi Sect shouted to Bao Duoduo and the other rogue cultivators behind him.
Wasn't this exactly what cannon fodder was for—to wear the enemy down? “Understood!” Bao Duoduo shouted in response. He reached out, and a glittering golden brick crackling with lightning appeared in his hand.
Seeing Bao Duoduo’s imposing aura, the Saint of the Lingqi Sect nodded with satisfaction. The man was a bit ugly, but he was certainly useful! That gold brick looked decent, too; perhaps he would take it for himself later.
But in the next second, the Saint of the Lingqi Sect saw the fawning expression on Bao Duoduo’s face vanish, replaced by a ferocious glint in his eyes. He didn't charge toward Lu Ming at all. Instead, with a flash of light beneath his feet, he lunged forward.
He swung the gold brick and slammed it with all his might against the Saint of the Lingqi Sect’s head!
Thwack!
The gold brick struck the Saint’s crown squarely. Caught completely off guard, the Saint’s head shattered like paper under the impact. The sound of the skull cracking was dull and sickening, and blood splattered instantly.
The Saint of the Lingqi Sect didn't even have time to groan before his eyes glazed over and his body slumped. Just as his primordial spirit tried to flee, Bao Duoduo backhanded it with the brick, snuffing it out completely without leaving even a remnant soul behind.
