“Those magic monsters are about to launch another attack. Are you elves going to keep waiting? I admit the enemy is very powerful, but if we just cower here and wait for death out of fear, we might as well charge out and fight with dignity. Why be so timid?” A bearman on the left spoke in an extremely contemptuous tone, a hint of anger visible on his face.
Standing before him, Vigaya could only say humbly, “I am very sorry. If we wait just a little longer, our allies, the Zerg, will arrive. They are very powerful and will surely be a great help to us.”
“Enough, little elf. You’ve been saying that for days. I suspect the Zerg you mentioned are too afraid to come.”
“Indeed, they are a race we’ve never even heard of.”
Faced with the doubts of the two, Vigaya felt helpless.
The Zerg were indeed formidable, and a group had already come to help earlier. However, in a previous battle, those creatures had charged out of the defensive line to fight elsewhere... and never returned.
This left the elves, who had been constantly praising the Zerg's might, in a very awkward position.
They kept insisting the Zerg were coming and would be their salvation, yet the Zerg were nowhere to be seen. The Elven Queen was now too embarrassed to even face the others.
At this moment, Vigaya, the adorable green-haired elven girl, had been sent out to deal with the guys in front of her.
The treants, on the other hand, made no comment. The creatures of this race were generally kind and inclined to trust the elves.
There was a deep history between the two sides. Since both lived at the boundary between the surface and the underground, they had been acquainted for many years. Having had extensive contact with the elves, the treants naturally trusted the character of the elven race.
In contrast, the bearmen were a true race of the underground world with absolutely no knowledge of the surface. Coupled with their volatile tempers, their worship of valor, and their contempt for the weak, they felt a certain disgust toward the Zerg’s delayed arrival.
If they weren't on the same side, the Bearman Patriarch might have already started cursing.
Just as Vigaya was at her wit's end, not knowing what to do, the Elven Queen arrived with Ellie.
And, of course, the dense, swarming mass of the Zerg followed behind them.
“They’re here.”
Vigaya’s eyes lit up as she pointed toward them.
The Bearman Chieftain looked over and immediately noticed Ellie standing in front of the insects.
“Is that... a human?”
The Bearman Patriarch frowned.
“Why have you brought a human here?”
Humans were not unfamiliar, even to the creatures of the underground world.
Many years ago, during a world-shaking war, one of the participating factions had been the humans.
They were invaders who had brought devastating losses to the underground world.
Consequently, everyone instinctively felt a sense of loathing toward humans.
However, the hideous insects behind the female knight soon captured the attention of the two bearmen.
Zerglings and hydralisks.
This wave even included several lurkers.
“These are...”
“The Zerg!” Vigaya exclaimed excitedly. “These are the Zerg!”
“These things?”
The Bearman Patriarch frowned, carefully assessing them.
Unfortunately, without an actual battle and since the Zerg did not emit any specific aura, he couldn't gauge their strength.
“Hmph, they look a bit terrifying, but do they actually have strength?”
“You didn't ally with the magic beasts from outside, did you?” the treant suddenly spoke. “To be honest, it’s not that I don't trust those magic beasts, but generally speaking, their strength isn't necessarily greater than your elven race. Or you could say, they are relatively weak.”
In the treant's understanding, the magic beasts around the elven territory were indeed vulnerable.
If the elves had their wondrous magic to bridge the gap in strength, the large groups of low-tier beings among the magic beasts were truly nothing to look at.
The Elven Queen, stepping forward, could only explain, “I am very sorry, Mr. Treant. But the Zerg are truly different from magic beasts. Please trust in their combat power.”
“Since you say so, I will believe you,” the treant nodded in response.
The Bearman Patriarch beside him let out a cold snort.
Ellie was somewhat speechless.
Rumble...
Suddenly, the ground in the distance began to vibrate.
A portion of the magic monsters began to approach.
Dozens of them actually had wings and flew directly into the sky, closing in at extreme speed.
“Not good, the magic monsters are attacking.”
There was no time for small talk now. The Bearman Patriarch immediately roared to those below, “Bearman warriors, the enemy attacks again! Take up your weapons! Do not let them breach this city!”
Below the ruined elven fortress, countless plants had long since been shattered in battle.
Most of the facilities that had assisted the archers were in disrepair. For them, fully holding the defensive line had already become extremely difficult.
Watching the large group of winged creatures fly toward them, the elven archers immediately launched an attack.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Streaks of light shot into the sky.
The elves' arrows possessed extreme speed and power. However, the magic monsters in the air were clearly elites; many of them actually managed to dodge.
Only a few elves of relatively high tier were able to accurately hit their targets.
Strange explosions rang out in the sky like fireworks.
Five or six figures fell one after another.
The already-prepared bearmen rushed forward, ready to finish off the fallen enemies while they were down.
But even more magic monsters were rapidly flying down.
The one at the very front emitted a terrifying aura.
At least to the current Ellie, it was very frightening.
“Tier 7?”
“No, Tier 8,” the Treant Patriarch said solemnly. “The magic monsters' strength still far exceeds ours. This isn't something that can be solved by fighting spirit alone. I’m afraid the Zerg you brought can only delay the enemy for a while. Our strength is simply too weak. Being pushed to this point by the enemy... must we really flee to the surface world?”
The treant's words made the Elven Queen’s lips twitch.
These guys had originally been driven underground. If they ran back now, were they going to start another war with the humans?
“It doesn't matter. We'll rely on ourselves. No matter what, the bearmen will give these bastards a harsh lesson.”
The Bearman Patriarch shouted fiercely, preparing to take the field himself.
A tragic and fierce battle immediately broke out below.
It had to be admitted that the bearmen's combat strength was quite good, exceeding most of the enemies the Zerg had faced so far.
But the magic monsters were even more absurd, to the point where the bearmen suffered heavy losses when facing them.
Sheer bravery could not bridge the gap in strength.
In fact, for the bearman race, this battle was entirely a last stand.
“This is quite troublesome.”
The massive bodies of the treants joined the fray one after another, starting to sweep away the charging magic monsters.
One great tree violently swung its branches, and countless leaves flew out like blades, slashing and cutting through the enemies' bodies.
It was indeed very powerful, but their numbers were too few, occupying only a small part of the battlefield.
What was even more troublesome was that the treants' size was too exaggerated. As soon as they appeared on the battlefield, they would quickly attract the enemy's attention and become primary targets.
As a result, the battle was extremely unfavorable for the defenders.
...
Just as over a thousand bearmen began to converge toward the city at the bottom of the defensive line, more than twenty hydralisks had already slithered up from behind Ellie.
Psh! Psh! Psh!
Large amounts of venom were spat from their mouths, launching into the sky.
Although it was liquid, it didn't splash everywhere. The hydralisks' attacks were highly concentrated; even when facing the sky, they could fire over long distances.
For a moment, a Tier 4 monster was caught off guard and drenched on the spot.
Although the area hit wasn't large enough to be fatal, the intense pain still caused the unlucky fellow to fall.
Seeing this scene with his own eyes, the Bearman Chieftain’s eyebrows twitched.
The attackers were actually those hydralisks.
“That kind of creature... can attack the sky?”
What shocked him even more was that in the next moment, a large number of zerglings launched a charge toward the bottom.
These insects rushed downward in a near-frenzied state, completely ignoring the terrain.
Then... they revealed their terrifying fangs and clashed with the enemies, who were generally a tier stronger than them.
A shocking sight appeared: when facing the fearsome magic monsters, this group of creatures seemed to turn into complete, reckless madmen who didn't care for their lives.
Even their enemies found it hard to believe.
