Entering the City

The battle lasted for half an hour, by which time the Swarm had gained a total advantage through long range fire.

A continuous barrage from the rocket bugs and various other Zerg gradually cut down the majority of the demons.

The survivors were slowly finished off by the combined efforts of the melee units.

“Truly demons—not a single one surrendered this time.”

She glanced at the succubus beside her; they really were two extremes.

Sensing her gaze, the modified Zerg succubus looked a bit embarrassed.

Modified organisms were different from original Zerg; they retained their original genetic traits, meaning some individual emotions still persisted.

Standard Swarm units like zerglings, however, possessed very few emotions.

They felt only an infinite, fanatical devotion to their Queen.

Once the battle concluded, the Zerg began clearing the battlefield.

Every resource would be taken.

One could say they were stripping the ground of its very surface.

After tallying the Zerg... fewer than 20,000 remained.

“Not bad.”

This kind of exchange ratio was unavoidable, given that the enemies' average Tier was much higher.

But the fact that they could win a head on decisive battle against demons proved just how powerful the Swarm had become.

After the fight, the Zerg did not immediately enter the enemy city.

There was no other choice; there were still many demons inside. If the force was too weak and a wave of resistance broke out within, the current swarm would likely be wiped out.

Since demons followed the law of the jungle, it was better to wait for the main force to arrive before making a major push into the city.

They would strike until every demon submitted.

Over a day later, fresh swarms began entering the Abyss through the portal in succession.

Xia Jin consolidated a massive army and launched a large scale offensive, directly seizing everything surrounding Talon's City.

Then, under the bewildered and awestruck gazes of countless demons, she sent the main force to storm the city gates.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

In just one second, over 100,000 thunderous explosions rang out—the sound of rockets being fired into the interior.

Following the blasts, a massive swarm of Zerg charged into the city, beginning their hunt for the soldiers within.

Any ordinary demon who dared to resist was killed without mercy.

Only the high ranking demons likely understood what was happening; most of the low level demons thought another demon faction was invading.

When they realized the leaders were merely Tier 9 creatures, they were enraged and rushed forward to clash with the Zerg.

Then came the catastrophe.

The Swarm poured into the city in an endless stream, continuously firing expendable units like rocket bugs throughout the process.

Following the armistice with the Empire, armored combat vehicles and various magic weapons were even transported over by large ships.

Though the Dawn Empire had little navy left, they still managed to scrounge up several hundred civilian transport vessels to move the equipment.

Xia Jin was even considering conscripting the Empire's human soldiers to make use of their remaining potential.

After a day and night of slaughter, the streets and alleys were piled high with the corpses of hundreds of thousands of demons.

The remaining demons, witnessing this horrific scene, no longer had any thoughts of resistance.

They realized these new creatures were not joking.

To resist was to die.

Subsequently, drones appeared and began consuming the corpses bit by bit right in front of the demons.

Many once arrogant demons now obediently shut their mouths.

Perhaps... this was true terror.

In the history of demonic warfare, the slaughter of a city had occurred countless times, but this was the first time they had encountered a situation like this.

Under that terrifying pressure, Xia Jin’s Zerg quickly finished clearing the streets before turning their attention to the ordinary demons.

She specifically boosted the strength of several elf bugs—raising them to Tier 12 solely by feeding them demon flesh and infusing them with energy—and had them shout along the streets: “By order of the Swarm, all demons are to leave their homes and gather at the City Lord's Plaza. Those who disobey will be executed!”

Such a ferocious tone perfectly matched the demonic style.

The Zerg were even a bit excessive.

At the slightest hint of trouble, they would strike to kill, showing no pity whatsoever.

Sometimes, a single defiant look was enough to lose one's life.

“I've never seen anything like this.”

That was likely the internal sentiment of the demons.

They were even more lawless than demons; their utter contempt for life and ruthless killing—to the point where they didn't even care if they slaughtered the entire city—finally instilled fear in many demons who had almost forgotten the emotion.

They were desperate to know who the ruler of these strange creatures was.

Some clever demons had already realized these beings were not native to the Abyss but had come from the surface world.

One sage among the demons watched the scene and finally let out a sigh. “I never expected that one day, surface dwellers would come here through those abandoned portals.”

The era had truly changed.

Perhaps because it possessed intelligence, it thought more than the other demons.

When a race grows large enough, outliers appear.

Though slaughter was indeed ingrained in their genes, there were those who thought more deeply—types who even appeared somewhat sophisticated. By relying on their rare intellect, they became the sages of the Abyss.
