At the edge of the horizon, the number of insects was growing. The entire ground was trembling. This terrifying presence made the sentinel's small mind sense a hint of danger.
As the scene became clearer, the demon's footsteps came to a complete halt.
It realized the severity of the situation and tried to turn and run immediately.
Unfortunately, it was too late.
As the first zergling lunged before it, sharp claws struck its body with brutal force.
The zergling opened its gaping maw and bit down on the demon's neck. Its sharp teeth easily punctured the demon armor, tearing away large chunks of flesh.
The demon sentinel tried to resist, but a second zergling was already upon it.
These terrifying creatures circled it, biting and tearing with incredible speed. Legs and arms were ripped apart bit by bit from top to bottom. They moved so fast that the sentinel lost consciousness in less than ten seconds.
After finishing the flesh, the zergling shook its head and looked into the distance.
Thick smoke billowed around as Zerg squads sprinted toward the horizon at incredible speeds. In the sky, the trajectories of rocket bugs streaked past from time to time, their piercing screeches accompanied by rolling clouds of smoke, like a frenzied feast.
They were turning every creature in sight into energy with extreme efficiency.
Meanwhile, Xia Jin watched the battle from the rear. For the current Zerg, killing the weak creatures around the city was far too easy. Most of the demons here were Tier 8 or Tier 9. While there were Tier 10 individuals, their numbers were very limited. The succubus and flame demon she had encountered earlier were definitely exceptions.
The battle quickly turned into a one sided hunt, though the demons' flight could not match the speed of the Swarm's advance. On such a massive scale, with scourges and mutalisks in the sky, ravagers from dozens of kilometers away launched powerful missiles into the demon clusters. Exploding plasma lava splashed everywhere, hitting large groups at once.
After more than twenty hours of combat, a thirty kilometer radius around the portal—excluding the Tyrant's city—had been almost entirely cleared.
By now, the demons in the city also realized the severity of the problem. Upon hearing the report from the guards, Talon immediately ordered his demon forces to investigate. They soon encountered the invading Swarm.
After a brief skirmish, this demon unit of about sixty individuals killed a single Zerg squad at the cost of twelve of their own.
Fifteen zerglings, two hydralisks, one roach, and one Impaler were killed in the fight.
Although it seemed like the Zerg suffered more losses, twelve demons had died, including two Tier 12 powerhouses. For such casualties to occur while outnumbering the enemy was utterly inconceivable.
Filled with doubt, the surviving demons broke away from the Swarm's pursuit and fled back to the city.
The Demon Tyrant soon learned of the situation outside from their reports.
...
“Unknown invaders? Not demons? Some other creatures actually dared to come to my territory to cause trouble?”
Sitting on a high throne, Talon was an archdemon. As he spoke, a terrifying pressure enveloped the entire hall.
In the Abyss, Tier 13 demons were known as Demon Monarchs. This level was considered the minimum requirement to become a Tyrant.
The strongest among all Demon Monarchs must reach Tier 14 to be called a Demon God.
Every generation had countless monarchs, but not every generation produced a Demon God. However, once a demon reached the level of a Tyrant, they were already considered one of the top powerhouses in the Abyss by other demons.
To any Tyrant, their territory was a symbol of their authority, and no enemy was permitted to seize it.
“Which of you will go and destroy those invaders for me?”
Talon questioned several of his most favored subordinates.
In truth, as a demon, he did not truly trust anyone. All those standing in this position had fought their way through thousands of other demons.
They were loyal to Talon only because of his overwhelming strength. If Talon ever became weak, these individuals would undoubtedly be the first to betray him.
That was the nature of demons; they only recognized power.
In this world, everything relied on strength. As long as you were powerful, you were the law.
