Chapter 207 · Volume 1

The Great Fleet Sets Sail

Similar scenes were unfolding everywhere.
Many shipyards began working around the clock. The Zerg provided money and resources, more than the Kingdom ever had, so for the ordinary workers, life was actually better now.
It was tiring, but the Zerg operated on rotating shifts. With sufficient pay, almost no one had any complaints.
The Kingdom's shipbuilding efficiency was remarkably high. Under magical control, every module could be fused and assembled directly using a mage's power. This was why a ship could be completed and launched in just a few days.
In fact, on this continent, the bottlenecks for shipbuilding were always resources and money, never time.
A few days later, the shipyards in twelve ports launched a batch of 260 vessels over 60 meters long.
Through requisitions from various regions, Xia Jin gathered even more civilian vessels of all sizes—even canoes (excluding the 1,000 plus small boats on the West Coast).
The final statistics were as follows:
Vessels over 100 meters: 1.
Vessels over 80 meters: 6.
Vessels over 60 meters: 340.
Vessels over 40 meters: 839.
Vessels over 20 meters: 2,134.
Vessels between 10 and 20 meters (inclusive): 1,254.
Vessels under 10 meters: 14,450.
Among the vessels under 20 meters, many had been quickly constructed from timber over the past few days.
The coastal population across the country had been mobilized by the Zerg for a massive effort of felling trees and building ships.
Various iron mining areas sent raw materials to the shipyards to create sturdier hulls.
Over 50 percent of these vessels were small canoes that could only hold a single zergling. Only a few meters long, they might capsize in a large wave.
Most of these small boats were linked together with ropes and towed behind the larger ships, making it easier to transport them across the open ocean.
To prevent them from being lost if they capsized in rough seas, the Zerg were tied to these small boats. This way, even if they flipped 180 degrees, they wouldn't sink with the boat.
After this wave of production, a massive swarm of Zerg arrived at the eastern coastal area of the city states region, carrying these vessels on their backs.
The Zerg then began to board the ships.
The Swarm had produced 16 Carrier Bugs of its own.
These were equivalent to 16 small 13,000 ton class aircraft carriers.
There were also 300 Small Carrier Bugs of the 100 meter class, specifically designed for transport.
The Carrier Bugs carried 16,000 scourges and 800 mutalisks.
The Small Carrier Bugs carried 5,000 hydralisks and 10,000 scourges.
The Kingdom's various military and civilian ships carried 20,000 scourges, 80,000 zerglings, 4,000 roaches, 300 lurkers, 100 infestors, 1,000 elf bugs, 2,000 drones, 1,000 larvae, 200 swarm hosts, 20 queens, 100 banelings, 3 primal brain bugs, and 10 ultralisks.
“That means the air force consists of 46,000 scourges and 800 mutalisks.”
Seeing the endless fleet of ships, even Xia Jin felt a surge of excitement.
The Kingdom's productivity was not to be underestimated. Although most were just simple wooden boats made by a few people felling trees, the sheer quantity was impressive.
To propel them, over 10,000 jet propulsion bugs of various sizes had been produced.
These bugs looked like barrels. Installed on ships, they extended tubes from the top to intake air and then blasted it out from their tails.
As the nearly 20,000 ships of various sizes left the riverbanks, Xia Jin's projection—which had been drifting in the distant ocean and attacking merchant convoys using scourges for aerial reconnaissance—ordered her ships to stop.
They were waiting for the main force to rendezvous.
...
About two and a half days later, all the vessels joined together.
The number of Carrier Bugs rose to 17.
These vessels were positioned at the center of the massive fleet, advancing at full speed under the protection of countless surrounding ships.
The entire fleet utilized higher powered jet propulsion bugs, pushing the fleet's speed to a staggering 120 kilometers per hour.
In the sky, waves of scourges patrolled, keeping the area within 600 kilometers of the fleet under clear surveillance.
They acted like reconnaissance planes, carefully searching the surroundings.
Over the four and a half day voyage, several merchant convoys were attacked by the Swarm's mutalisks.
However, given the fleet's massive scale, it was bound to be noticed eventually, no matter how careful they were.
In fact, the scourges soon spotted the Empire's fleet, and the aerial reconnaissance units of both sides engaged in combat.
The enemy used griffins.
Perhaps due to strength enhancing potions, even the weakest griffins had reached Tier 7.
To prevent these griffins from reporting back to their fleet, Xia Jin deployed 100 scourges and 30 mutalisks to wipe them out.
The ships then changed course, heading slightly north for a distance, before running headlong into the Mis Kingdom's fleet.
This was quite a turn of events; suddenly seeing the sky covered in scourges, this country—which was far behind the Empire in development—fell into a state of total disbelief.
