Boom!
An explosion suddenly erupted about twenty meters away from Xia Jin.
The terrifying shockwave slammed into the translucent barrier in front of her. A flash of blinding light filled her vision, followed immediately by a thick shroud of smoke and dust.
Soil pitter pattered down, sliding off the mental shield. In her line of sight, a massive crater had appeared where the explosion occurred.
“The power is quite impressive.”
She estimated that even a Tier 7 powerhouse might lose their life if they took such a direct hit.
Looking up at the sky, although many griffins and falcons were still fighting the insects, the entire sky was effectively under the control of the swarm.
The seizure of air superiority had been incredibly smooth.
For this wave, she had 1,000 mutalisks and 70,000 scourges at her disposal.
Of course, she couldn't deploy all of them for this single raid; she only sent 30,000 scourges and 300 mutalisks to suppress the enemy.
Even so, the renowned Griffin Knights were being pinned down, unable to even lift their heads.
Seeing the enemy launch another full thousand griffins, Xia Jin couldn't help but smile.
“They only have 3,000 in total. This rate of attrition is definitely in my favor.”
Trading ten scourges for one griffin was enough.
While it was true that some Tier 8 griffins required hundreds of scourges to take down, overall, the exchange was still advantageous for Xia Jin.
If there was one thing she was dissatisfied with in this battle, it was that the mutalisks were somewhat slow.
The griffins were exceptionally fast, capable of reaching speeds near Mach 1 in an instant.
Despite their relatively small size, they could fly at near sonic speeds and even turn with great agility. Once they got close, the mutalisks would be forced into a defensive position.
The only thing the mutalisks could rely on was the massive net woven by the overwhelming numbers of scourges.
“Send another 10,000 scourges up for support.”
After yawning, Xia Jin glanced behind her. Roughly several hundred banelings had already rolled into position nearby.
Rows of zerglings were pulling catapults reinforced with magic crystals, spreading them out evenly across the field.
Then, the banelings moved onto them.
Occasionally, luck would turn, and a catapult would be struck by enemy artillery fire.
However, the Zerg had specifically ordered a group of human craftsmen to cooperate with mages for this operation. They had produced 100 catapults in one go, which, combined with the 200 already in reserve, gave the swarm a staggering amount of long distance bombardment equipment.
Standing on the city walls, the commander of the capital City Guard, who was also a Tier 8 warrior, turned pale as he watched the massive siege engines being set up in the distance.
“These things even know how to use human equipment.”
His gaze swept over the swarm and suddenly landed on the back of one of the roaches.
A white haired girl was sitting there, looking exceptionally conspicuous.
“That is...”
“Her Highness the Princess.”
The Military Minister, who was looking through a monocular telescope, lowered his tool and frowned.
The two men looked at each other and then fell into a silence that lasted for over ten seconds.
In the enemy army, she was the only humanoid being. With her silver white hair, she was the young princess once hailed as the most beautiful flower of the Kingdom.
But at this moment, she stood on the opposing side, commanding an endless sea of terrifying creatures to launch an attack against the Kingdom.
When this fortress, which had stood for centuries, was first built, no one could have imagined it would face such a situation.
“This is Her Highness's war of vengeance.”
The Military Minister sighed and handed the telescope to the city defense officer.
“When Gor defected to the Empire, he surely never dreamed this day would come.” He suddenly chuckled and turned to walk down the city wall.
The city defense officer remained silent for a moment before picking up the monocular telescope to observe carefully.
Undoubtedly, the girl appearing in the frame possessed a beauty that was difficult to describe.
Beneath her were hideous insects.
Whenever a shell occasionally landed near her, it would strike a mysterious translucent barrier, failing to harm her in the slightest.
She looked like the purest of goddesses.
“A monster and a goddess?”
The city defense officer gave a bitter smile.
Facing her was a massive psychological challenge, no matter who the opponent was.
As he watched, the massive catapults in the distance finally moved.
Following the lead of a few humans in the ranks who cut the ropes, the long ironwood arms snapped forward. The magic crystals at the base erupted with energy, which surged to the tip. The banelings at the top were suddenly granted immense kinetic energy, hurtling toward the distant city walls.
In an instant, hundreds of banelings took to the air, tracing parabolas at speeds of hundreds of meters per second before finally crashing into the city walls.
Boom—
Boom boom boom—
The banelings slammed into the magical barrier, exploding into splashes of venom that covered hundreds of meters.
The instantaneous impact was so great that the formation even experienced violent tremors.
A large number of magic crystals in the core power supply room were instantly drained of their energy.
Some of the mages maintaining the barrier began to break out in a cold sweat.
Beneath the ground, a portion of the lurkers also struck the magical barrier and could no longer advance. Thus, they could only continuously fire spines at the barrier, though unfortunately, they were all blocked.
With scourges bombing from the sky and banelings being hurled from the ground, the barrier was under constant, repeated assault.
Xia Jin knew that simply throwing things away like this was a high consumption strategy and not very cost effective. If there were no war, the magic crystals within the capital could last for hundreds of years.
Her goal was simply to use this method to wear down the mages. Once the opposition could no longer hold out and a weak point appeared, the thousands of hydralisks here would attack that spot simultaneously, coordinated with a massive charge of scourges to destroy the target in one fell swoop.
