Morning arrived.
The commander of the 4th Legion arrived at a small town.
There were fewer than two hundred houses here, and the surrounding farmland had long been completely destroyed. Not a single person was to be seen, nor was there any sign of the Swarm.
He looked back and happened to see the other two commanders arriving behind him.
“Is the news accurate?” The 5th Legion commander frowned.
“Generally speaking, there shouldn't be any mistakes. The encryption of magical communications is almost absolute; I've never heard of anyone being able to crack it.”
The 4th Legion commander sighed. Looking at the report in his hand, he silently took out a box of chocolate and ate a piece.
“Not bad. The military rations have been tasting better and better lately.” He nodded with great satisfaction and handed the box to the two men behind him. “Try some. I asked the quartermaster for this in advance.”
“No thanks, I'm not in the mood.”
The 5th Legion commander shook his head. Suddenly sensing something, he glanced back.
He immediately saw dense clusters of black dots approaching from the distance.
“Are those... Falcon Knights?”
“They're here. Damn it, they're finally here.” The 4th Legion commander grew excited, swallowing the chocolate in one gulp and tossing the box aside.
The black dots in the sky drew closer and closer, soon sweeping over their heads.
They were so numerous that they numbered in the thousands, blotting out the sun.
As those countless black shadows flew, a few of them suddenly descended.
One of the larger ones suddenly landed about two kilometers ahead of the combined legions, slamming its talons into the ground with great force.
Bang!
The ground trembled.
Visible ripples spread out in all directions from the falcon's feet.
The rocks and soil on the surface were also shattered into countless cracks by the powerful force.
A few seconds later, a heavily wounded zergling crawled out unsteadily.
The falcon's talons opened, directly clutching the zergling's head before it took back to the sky.
No matter how the zergling struggled, it couldn't harm the falcon in the slightest. After being carried a thousand meters into the air, the creature flapped its wings and threw the insect down forcefully.
At this height, the battered Tier 5 zergling could only fall to its death.
Similar events quickly followed. More and more Falcon Knights descended from the sky to snatch the zerglings from the ground and kill them. Some could even kill them through the earth.
The 4th Legion commander stared for a moment, then rubbed his chin. “I didn't expect these insects to be lying in ambush so close by.”
Two kilometers—that really was too close.
Once they realized they would be dragged out, the zerglings immediately tried to crawl deeper. Unfortunately, it was useless. Xia Jin felt that many zerglings that had crawled down twenty or thirty meters were stimulated back out by a very strange magic.
In an instant, their burrowing ability was countered quite miserably.
However, a few seconds later, the legion commanders suddenly noticed dark clusters of black dots appearing from the north, the direction occupied by the Zerg.
As the distance closed, they could see that these were strange-looking creatures.
Scourges!
This was a creature none of the human soldiers had ever seen before.
Suddenly seeing the Zerg's air force, the Falcon Knights flying in the sky were also startled.
“The enemy actually has an air force?”
“Mages, release your magic!”
Streaks of light lit up as over a hundred spells flew toward the scourges one after another.
There were fireballs, ice spikes, wind blades, and dark spheres.
Of course, because both sides were moving at high speeds, the hit rate was very low for most of them, except for those that were fast or had tracking effects.
Seeing the scourges approaching, many knights gripped their weapons tightly, standing ready.
The falcons also flew toward the scourges they had targeted.
The two sides closed in.
Boom—
A flash of bright light erupted in the sky.
An explosion occurred.
The first falcon let out a miserable cry, falling toward the ground unsteadily.
Although the blast didn't kill it, the power of this wave undoubtedly inflicted significant injuries on the Tier 5 giant bird. Even the knight on its back was blown away by the shockwave, becoming separated from his mount.
With that first sound, the subsequent scourges began a dense sequence of detonations.
Countless insects charged forward one after another, creating a scene in the sky as brilliant as fireworks.
Incessant explosions echoed through the clouds.
Thousands of scourges came wave after wave, continuously bombarding the massive formation of Falcon Knights.
Because both sides were in the air and the explosive power of these insects was truly immense, countless knights fell from the sky like kites with broken strings.
Most of the Falcon Knights were dazed by the explosions at this point.
In their trance, some saw a silver-haired girl standing on a ruined wall two kilometers away.
Many scourges were taking off from behind her, rising to meet the Falcon Knights in the sky.
“A white-haired girl... wait!”
Some people vaguely began to realize something.
Unfortunately, they had no chance to think. As the space in front of them fell into chaos, the knights behind were forced to take evasive maneuvers.
The sky had already turned into a disaster zone.
...
“What happened?”
On the ground, the 4th Legion commander was completely dumbstruck.
Within his field of vision, their own air force was being slaughtered in droves by the enemy's self-destructing creatures without any power to resist.
Seeing this, more Falcon Knights immediately turned back, but the explosions would not stop because of it.
After three minutes, over a thousand Falcon Knights had already fallen.
More chose to retreat to prevent being attacked again.
This scene was unbelievable to the soldiers on the ground.
“Damn it, what kind of creatures are those? Why do they explode?”
It was too fast. Like modern planes targeted by missiles, they were being blown out of the sky in batches.
Who would have thought the powerful Kingdom's air force would suffer such a setback the moment they acted?
“Heh, what kind of monsters are we facing? Every once in a while, a new thing we've never seen before appears. Thousands of flying things... how do we fight this?”
The 5th Legion commander was speechless. He suddenly doubted whether the three combined legions could truly defeat the enemy.
