After the battle to besiege the 12th Legion, Xia Jin currently had approximately the following insects: 110,000 zerglings, 24,000 hydralisks, 8,800 banelings, 900 lurkers, 480 infestors, 3,800 roaches, and 200 swarm hosts (with their reserve of about 120,000 locusts).
In truth, there were slight deviations in these numbers, but Xia Jin’s OCD kicked in. Once a battle was over, if the remaining count wasn't a round number, she felt compelled to supplement them just to make the total even.
Looking at this current scale, she had essentially deployed almost all the locusts and the majority of her main force insects. The remaining thirty or forty thousand insects in other directions were too scattered to take on a full enemy legion.
“No matter what, we must completely annihilate these two main enemy armies in this battle.”
Xia Jin considered it for a moment and decided not to let the surrendered Legion Commander Mir take action for now.
The effect of one person was too negligible; it would only be effective once she had a few more.
She planned to pull these two legion commanders over to the Zerg side as well, then have them all appear before the kingdom at once. She wondered what the King’s reaction would be when he saw his important commanders defecting to his former daughter.
Although Xia Jin possessed the memories of the princess, her impression of this father was not particularly deep. While the King had indeed doted on his daughter, the actual time the two had spent together was pathetically short.
“And since I am a transmigrator, my impression of this King has not been very good from the moment I arrived.”
This war of annihilation was conducted with much more proficiency than the first one.
She focused her attention on whichever unit type posed the greatest threat.
Roaches were used in the second wave of the charge this time. While the enemy was busy dealing with the zerglings, she suddenly concentrated the more powerful roach groups and used them in coordination with a portion of infestors mixed in to exert pressure on the enemy.
Furthermore, this was the first time Xia Jin had deployed queens to the battlefield.
In fact, it was not cost-effective to risk the expensive queens being targeted on the battlefield just to heal cannon fodder like zerglings. Therefore, Xia Jin's approach was to have the powerful insects on the front line retreat immediately when they were about to be wounded, hiding in the back to receive healing from the queens.
Although the efficiency was a bit low, overall, it saved a significant amount of standard energy.
What surprised Xia Jin the most were the numerous locusts, which were originally meant only to stall the enemy.
Even though Tier 1 units had difficulty even breaking the defense of Tier 4 or Tier 5 targets, the acidic liquid sprayed by the locusts remained on the battlefield, constantly draining the enemy's vitality.
For some warriors, unless they constantly released their aura to resist, the moment it touched their skin, they would hear a terrifying sizzling sound and feel the pain of corrosion.
Pain, for humans, was something that significantly affected combat effectiveness.
Perhaps the locust venom was not fatal, but the negative debuff it brought caused the warriors' strength to decline noticeably.
...
As the insects launched their massive assault, a group of about ten falcons flew nearby.
From a distance, they observed the conditions of the battlefield.
Because they lacked the means to target high altitudes, the Zerg had no choice but to let the other side leave.
Not long after, a high-altitude unit composed of 300 Falcon Knights flew over the battlefield, dropping magic crystal explosive balls down below.
The hydralisks' bone spines could not reach those things flying several kilometers up in the sky.
As the spheres hit the ground, bursts of explosions erupted within the swarm.
Fortunately, the brain bug immediately moved some of the roaches being bombarded, losing only about twenty. Even so, it gave Xia Jin a headache.
The war of annihilation continued for over two hours. After enduring several waves of return bombing, both legions were forcibly pinned down.
Xia Jin's white-haired projection repeated her old trick, even bringing along the already-submissive Mir to extend an invitation to the two legion commanders.
In the end, the 8th Legion commander, Joss, surrendered.
The 13th Legion commander remained loyal to the kingdom until death, eventually dying under the attack of banelings.
After the battle, although they suffered many losses due to the aerial bombardment, the manual deployment method used by the Falcon Knights was too primitive, and the insects could sometimes dodge in advance. Thus, the result of the battle was better than expected.
The final loss of the main force swarm was 48,000, with zerglings making up the majority.
Losses among the cannon fodder locusts totaled 80,000.
Excluding the locusts, she had achieved nearly a one-to-one exchange ratio.
...
“I suddenly realized I don't have enough insects.”
Xia Jin had recently sent out tens of thousands of scattered Tier 1 locusts to different locations for reconnaissance, confirming that approximately eight more enemy legions were approaching Zerg territory.
Of course, the actual standard energy harvested from the past two days of battle had reached 20 million units (not including what was produced and recycled by the swarm).
In reality, as long as the corpses were secured, it was a guaranteed profit; the only thing lost was time.
“The next base level requires 60 million units, which means eliminating six legions would be enough. Unfortunately, for now, I can only continue to mass-produce troops. There's no other way.”
According to this trend, the remaining kingdom legions certainly couldn't be stopped for the time being.
But there was no need to stop them. Let them in, concentrate the forces, and eliminate them one by one.
Remaining swarm:
Approximately 70,000 zerglings, 19,000 hydralisks, 6,000 banelings, 700 lurkers, 420 infestors, 3,200 roaches, and 200 swarm hosts (with their reserve of about 40,000 locusts).
Meanwhile, new insects were being produced urgently at the Border Forest. Once they reached a certain scale, they would immediately rush to the front line, preparing to concentrate and participate in the upcoming battles.
