The average strength of the zerglings was simply too high. In the blink of an eye, seven or eight more had leaped onto the city wall.
The hundreds of soldiers standing atop the wall felt like they were trying to stop a chariot with a mantis's arm, unable to halt such terrifying enemies no matter how hard they tried.
For a moment, severed limbs flew everywhere. Countless bodies were torn apart in the brutal combat as if they were made of tofu.
“Everyone hold the line! You cannot let the enemy rush into the city!”
The old butler, who had run to the rear, roared once more.
The warriors around him charged forward one after another.
Despite the high number of low tier soldiers, there was at least some hope of killing the insects.
With Tier 4 and Tier 5 warriors mixed among them, the eight zerglings on the wall would soon be dealt with.
However, the number Xia Jin had sent in this wave was far more than just that.
As the massive, dark swarm rushed to the base of the wall, dozens of zerglings nimbly scrambled up the vertical surface.
They quickly reached the top, vaulted over the battlements, and leaped into the city to clash with the reinforcing soldiers.
One followed another, their numbers growing steadily.
Most terrifyingly, several zerglings began a fierce assault on the city gate, attempting to seize the gate mechanism and fully open the heavy iron gate.
“Hold! Do not let these monsters take the wall!”
The city defense officer roared from the edge of the wall after slaying a bug with several blows.
Directly below him, a dense formation of shield warriors formed a solid wall of steel, locked in combat with several zerglings.
A row of spearmen let out a battle cry, thrusting their weapons forward from the side.
The battle was unexpectedly brutal. Even the zerglings did not gain much of an advantage initially when facing such overwhelming numbers.
But...
Tier 4 strength was a reality that could not be ignored.
Moreover, these zerglings had been comprehensively enhanced by the hive, allowing them to dodge many attacks with great agility.
Consequently, even if they died, they often managed to take several soldiers down with them.
The worst off were some Tier 5 warriors; a single moment of carelessness while dueling a bug could result in injury.
And being injured on the battlefield affected one's performance.
The sensation of pain, in particular, would interfere with a person's judgment.
...
Three minutes later, the number of zerglings that had scaled the wall reached three hundred.
In some sectors, the zerglings had already broken through the enemy's defenses and begun to push deep into the city's interior.
On the streets ahead, squads of soldiers arriving as reinforcements were soon locked in combat with the insects that had breached the perimeter.
Seeing more zerglings slaughtering their way up, the city defense officer at the top of the wall was beginning to lose his stamina.
Though he was a powerful individual, his strength was limited. After killing thirteen zerglings in a row, he was already gasping for breath.
The enemy seemed to know they shouldn't just swarm him all at once.
The zerglings employed rotating tactics, with only one coming forward at a time.
Some zerglings would even jump off the wall after being injured, running back to the rear to receive treatment from a queen.
Then, another zergling from the back would take its place, giving him no time to rest.
Not a single zergling feared death.
“Damn things... if only my subordinates had this kind of combat will...”
In his heart, he felt a deep dread toward the insects.
As a man of absolute loyalty to the Duke, he grit his teeth and endured the pain and weakness in his body, continuing the slaughter.
His arms were aching to the point of exhaustion.
The bodies of the zerglings were far too hard. Even a Tier 6 warrior would find themselves trembling with fatigue after fighting them for so long.
But no matter how tired he was, he had to persist.
Because the moment he stopped, only death would await him.
“Ah!”
Following a desperate roar, he unleashed a cold glint that actually sliced a zergling in half.
Stepping forward a few paces, he looked down at the flat ground below to see that many more insects were still approaching.
Countless black dots were scaling the sturdy walls as if they were walking on level ground.
And in the distance, a black haired girl stood silently.
Dressed entirely in a black dress with her long hair flowing, she stood straight in the center of the swarm.
Zerglings constantly ran past her on both sides, yet the girl remained motionless, her pale face quietly watching the city wall.
“Is that...”
A human?
No.
The enemy commander?
The controller of these monsters was actually a girl like that?
Though the distance was great, her perfect form and snow white skin still caused the city defense officer to lose himself for a moment.
It was unbelievable.
He had imagined every possibility, even some terrifying monster driving these creatures.
But seeing a breathtakingly beautiful girl standing among the monsters created a contrast that held an indescribable beauty.
This beauty carried a hint of mystery, yet it also contained a hidden blade.
Watching the zerglings continuously scale the wall from afar, Xia Jin's projection nodded inwardly.
At that moment, the city gate was forced open by the insects.
A swarm of zerglings poured through the entrance.
This battle was easier than she had imagined.
She had only used the most basic type of insect.
The Duke clearly had not been prepared to intercept them.
However, the fighting inside the city would certainly continue for a while.
Xia Jin raised her hand and pointed forward.
In an instant, the swarm that had been moving at a leisurely pace roared in unison, quickening their steps to begin a full sprint.
In truth, she didn't need to make any physical movement at all; a single thought would have sufficed. She only did it now because she felt it looked more impressive.
Sure enough, this display of power left the man on the city wall completely stunned.
In his eyes, the girl in the black dress in the distance lightly raised her hand, and the insects that had been jogging beside her began a full charge.
That moment of terrifying momentum felt as if a demon god had descended to the world.
