Chapter 87 · Volume 1

【Wuxia World】The New Group Owner

The vehicle drove into a high-end villa district.
This district was in an excellent location, close to the city center, and was quite expensive. In the past, Xu Youyou had often brought him here to stay.
Before long, the vehicle slowly pulled into the garage of one of the villas.
Just as he got out of the car, Zuo Lin'an saw someone.
“Oh? Granny Wu is here too?”
Wu Yun wore a warm, gentle smile. “I heard from Little Mei that you two kids went to Sin Hunter City. I was worried sick!”
“I rushed back from out of town just to wait for news with her. Fortunately, you both did wonderfully. Come on in, Granny prepared a ton of delicious food for you.”
Zuo Lin'an knew that Granny Wu Yun was Aunt Mei's friend from the Starry Chat Group; the two of them had known each other for many years.
Based on the bits and pieces Xu Youyou had let slip in the past, Aunt Mei had asked her friends for help back when she was hunting down the people who had targeted him.
Granny Wu Yun was one of them.
“Granny Wu, I'll go put my luggage away first,” Zuo Lin'an said.
“Go on, go on. Come down quickly for lunch!”
He gave an affirmative reply, then headed upstairs with practiced ease to find his room.
This was a room Aunt Mei had specially prepared for him. Whenever he didn't have school in the past, he would come and stay here.
Over such a long period, he had been greatly indebted to their care; otherwise, his high school life would definitely not have been so comfortable.
Looking at the tidy room, he smiled warmly, tossed his suitcase inside, and quickly headed back downstairs.
As he passed the living room, he couldn't help but look at the photo hanging on the wall again.
It was a very old photograph with slightly yellowed edges, looking as though many years had passed since it was taken.
The woman in the photo wore a silk qipao embroidered with camellias. Her pitch-black hair was straight and smooth, flowing like silk.
Her elegant and serene demeanor exuded a natural grace that seemed to come from her very bones.
Her aura was extraordinary, to say nothing of her appearance.
She truly lived up to the image of a well-read young lady from a wealthy family of the past.
His gaze shifted, catching a corner of the photo where the name Xu Youran was written clearly.
This was Xu Youyou's mother.
Whenever he saw this photo, he couldn't help but stare for a moment longer. After all, she was truly beautiful!
However, as his gaze shifted and fell upon Xu Youyou, who was currently stuffing his face with fried meat in the dining room, his mind instantly cleared.
“...”
This guy's looks were eighty percent similar to Aunt Xu in the photo, but looking at Xu Youyou's face, Zuo Lin'an only found him annoying.
“Sigh!”
Zuo Lin'an walked over to the dining room and plopped down onto a chair.
Xu Youyou, still chewing on a piece of fried meat, noticed his odd expression.
“What's wrong with you?”
Zuo Lin'an shook his head. “Nothing.”
Wu Yun walked out carrying another plate of fried food, chuckling. “Eat up, eat up. It's all delicious. I have something to discuss with you boys in a bit.”
Zuo Lin'an picked up a piece of fried yellow croaker and popped it into his mouth. He nodded casually, but his mind was already racing, wondering what could possibly require a discussion with the two of them.
Hmm... wait.
Could it be...!
Zheng Mei walked out of the kitchen. Seeing his expression, she couldn't help but ask, “Oh? Judging by your face, did you guess it?”
“Does it have something to do with the Starry Chat Group you and Granny Wu are in?” Zuo Lin'an asked.
Zheng Mei casually pulled out a chair and sat down.
“Since you've guessed it, there's no need to keep you in suspense. It indeed has to do with that organization.”
“You two have now become Human-Specter Symbionts, which makes you a different kind of Specter Master. Your Granny Wu and I can each recommend one of you to join.”
Zuo Lin'an found it a bit strange.
“Aunt Mei, that chat group... I heard it's mostly made up of people who became Specter Masters after losing their loved ones. Is it really okay for Youyou and me to join like this?”
Xu Youyou swallowed his food. “Yeah, Auntie, can that rule be broken?”
Zheng Mei dismissed his concern with a wave of her hand. “Of course it can!”
“While what you said is true, in reality, this chat group is essentially a mutual aid group.”
A mutual aid group?
“You both know that the members who join are mostly people like me—those who lost their loved ones, had them turn into specters, and then willingly fused with them.”
Zheng Mei's gaze drifted for a moment, as if recalling something, but she quickly snapped out of it.
“As everyone knows, the transformation into a specter is always accompanied by extremely negative emotions and experiences. In other words... the loved ones they lost almost all met with violent deaths.”
“Because of this, the group members all harbor deep-seated hatred. Most of them will post requests for help in the group, and other members will often respond to assist them.”
“So the two of us would basically be muscle? Specialized in helping people get revenge?” Zuo Lin'an asked.
Zheng Mei smiled gently, like a blooming rose.
“You could say that, but whether you want to help is entirely up to you. No one will interfere with your decision.”
Zuo Lin'an and Xu Youyou exchanged a look, and finally, both nodded.
“I'll join,” Zuo Lin'an said.
“Me too,” Xu Youyou agreed.
This Starry Chat Group was clearly out of the ordinary. Joining it would definitely deepen their understanding of this supernatural world.
After all, some of the supernatural dungeons were managed by Specter Masters.
And since the group was full of Specter Masters, many of them had likely managed or were currently managing certain dungeons. Making contact with them would certainly be beneficial.
“Great,” Zheng Mei said. “I'll recommend Youyou. As for Lin'an, your Granny Wu will recommend you.”
Wu Yun just happened to walk out of the kitchen, placing a steaming hot dish onto the dining table.
“We've been prepared for this for a long time, just waiting for you two to return to discuss it. Since you've made up your minds, we can contact the group owner.”
Wu Yun and Zheng Mei both took out their phones and opened the chat group.
Zuo Lin'an and Xu Youyou couldn't help but lean in to look at the interface. They noticed that no one was currently talking in the group.
“Huh?”
Zuo Lin'an was somewhat surprised when he saw the member list.
“Isn't this the Starry Chat Group? Why isn't the group owner Fanxing?”
At the very top of the member list, the person shown as the group owner was someone named Su Ze, while Fanxing was listed as the deputy owner.
Below them was a long list of names.
Zheng Mei's expression grew slightly complicated. She actually knew Su Ze, but ever since he became the group owner, he had become much more aloof, often not replying to messages.
“Oh, that? I'm not entirely sure either.”
“Anyway, about two or three years ago, the owner was still Fanxing, but then he suddenly handed the ownership over. As for the reason...”
“He said that this Su Ze is stronger than him, and since he had too much on his plate to manage the group, he told us to contact the new owner if we ever ran into issues we couldn't resolve.”
Xu Youyou blinked. “I see. So if we want to be recommended now, do we have to talk to this new group owner?”
“We do need to inform him, yes, but the person coming to verify your identities won't be the group owner,” Zheng Mei replied.
“Not him?” Zuo Lin'an asked.
“Aunt Mei, the way you put it... does that mean when Fanxing was still the group owner, he would personally verify everyone who wanted to join the chat group?”
