Chapter 324 · Volume 1

Is This... the Keeper?

The cutlass, carrying all of Elias's strength, thrust forward.
The shield of flesh frozen by 【Frostbite】 let out a sharp crack the moment it made contact.
Crack!
Ice shards and frozen rotten meat splattered everywhere as the entire shield shattered like cheap glass.
The blade drove further forward without any resistance, plunging deep into Sarah's body.
At this moment, the portal to the Inferno behind her was still emitting a scalding stench of sulfur.
Countless crimson arms pinned Sarah's head and limbs firmly, like holding down a fat pig waiting to be slaughtered.
Her mouth was tightly clamped by the hands of the Inferno, leaving her only able to squeeze out muffled, agonizing growls from between the fingers.
Her eyes bulged wide, their surfaces bloodshot, as she stared at the man in front of her with a mixture of terror and fury.
Amidst Sarah's twisted expression, the white glow of 【Frostbite】 flared brilliantly at the tip of the blade.
Spiritual thorns, laden with a bone-chilling cold, suddenly sprouted and grew wildly from all over her body.
These freezing branches brutally pierced through her entire body.
Sarah had initially wanted to rely on her near-invincible mutated regeneration to break free from these restraints.
But this only accelerated her destruction.
The spreading speed of 【Frostbite】's freezing power was far more absurd than she had imagined.
The cold wave around the stab wounds and branches spread frantically, completely freezing her whole body along with those disgusting, translucent tentacles, foul-smelling slime, and blood in an instant.
She became a massive, grotesquely shaped ice sculpture.
Looking like a rime-covered tree in winter.
The mutated regeneration inside Sarah's body was still working frantically, but the moment any new flesh buds sprouted, they would instantly crash into the expanding zone of frost.
This meant she was actively “grafting” her newly grown flesh into the surrounding ice.
Thus, the regeneration completely became an accelerator for digging her own grave.
Finally, the somewhat enclosed ground floor space fell completely silent.
The dust had settled.
The additional effects of the bolt Bloodsong had fired earlier were slowly wearing off.
The portal to the Inferno hovering in mid-air, which radiated the scalding stench of sulfur, gradually closed amidst a chorus of resentful demonic whispers.
The rift in the void sealed shut completely.
Those arms of the Inferno that had been pinning Sarah down tightly also gradually lost their fleshy color as the portal closed.
They began to harden rapidly, eventually turning into a deep, cold obsidian texture.
Like a series of grotesquely shaped obsidian reliefs, they grew firmly onto the stone steps of the stairs, merging with the architecture.
Elias pulled out his cutlass, leaning against the wall and panting heavily from exhaustion.
Because the spiritual projection of his misaligned organs had still not fully recovered, a faint, lingering pain remained.
He wasn't sure if this was psychological or if the effects of that damn spell hadn't worn off yet.
Bloodsong also walked over slowly, her slightly exhausted, beautiful face still filled with lingering fear.
However, when the two stepped forward to take a closer look, they realized things weren't that simple.
Sarah, who was completely frozen into an ice sculpture, was not entirely dead.
Behind that layer of translucent ice, her pupilless eyes were actually still slowly rolling inside the ice with a venomous frequency.
“Congratulations, kid. You've completed a very practical cold storage of fresh meat.”
Old Ed's voice carried the leisurely tone of a retired official.
“Cold storage of fresh meat...”
For the giant jellyfish in front of him, the description was quite accurate, and he found it rather fitting.
“What do we do?”
At this moment, Bloodsong turned to look at Elias, her demonic slitted pupils shining bright in the darkness.
“Find a way to kill her?”
Elias fell into deep thought for a moment, pressing his chest with a troubled expression.
“How?”
“This thing probably isn't human anymore.”
As he spoke, he subtly averted his gaze from Bloodsong's beautiful face, which was incredibly close.
She might actually be a succubus...
She's too devastating. Staring for too long makes my heart beat too fast.
He felt that Bloodsong's bloodline definitely had some mystical implications.
“I think we might need a powerful enough burst of energy to completely destroy her entire physical body in an instant to stop her from regenerating.”
Elias shifted his gaze back to the ice sculpture.
“However, with your spirituality almost completely depleted and my current state...”
He shrugged, his tone helpless.
“I'm afraid it's going to be very difficult.”
After saying that, he cast a subtle glance at the girl beside him.
“As a half-demon, don't you have any ultimate trump cards left up your sleeve?”
“Does Calovius not have any contingency plans for a situation like hers?”
Bloodsong looked at Elias, who was glancing at her. When she heard the word “Calovius,” she hesitated slightly.
Her delicate eyebrows arched slightly.
“No.”
“Well, Bloodsong, you're being dishonest.”
Elias curled his lips.
“Look, we're comrades-in-arms who fought side by side and have each other's backs now.”
“How can you still hide this from me? Where is the most basic trust between people?”
“Oh, honestly!”
Bloodsong was left somewhat speechless by his rapid-fire nagging. She frowned slightly and waved her hand in annoyance.
“I do have a trump card, but that kind of spell requires a long channeling time, and with my current spirituality, I can't even cast it.”
“Even if I did, it wouldn't completely obliterate her like you suggested.”
She glanced at the massive block of ice on the stairs with a bit of guilt.
“Let's stop wasting our energy here and wait for the old man to deal with the trouble outside!”
“This woman is a Scale Four, after all.”
“With our level of ability, we probably don't stand a chance.”
Elias looked up at the winding metal staircase and pointed upward.
“Then let's head up and deal with the tower lamp first.”
“The monster riot outside is most likely related to this tower lamp being extinguished.”
“I'll go up and take a look. Why don't you stay down here and watch her?”
Before Bloodsong could answer, the two of them suddenly heard a heavy door creaking behind them.
The thick iron door on the ground floor of the lighthouse was violently pushed open from the outside.
“Clang!”
The muscles of both individuals tensed up again almost reflexively, but they relaxed in unison when they saw it was Malcolm, followed by the remaining sailors.
As long as it wasn't a monster.
The moment the door was pushed open, a sea breeze carrying a pungent stench of blood instantly rushed in.
Through the crack in the door, Elias could faintly hear the sounds of an intense, chaotic battle echoing from the beach outside.
The commotion was immense.
“This old man is pretty useless too.”
Elias complained silently to Old Ed in his mind.
“He's been fighting for so long, yet he still hasn't finished off the enemy outside.”
Old Ed had his reservations about this, his tone somewhat serious.
“Kid, don't be so self-righteous. The one outside might be much more troublesome.”
“Oh?”
Elias voiced a questioning hum in his mind.
“Use your brain. The one you just fought inside wasn't even a proper transcendent before she converted to the Mist Veil Society.”
Old Ed explained calmly,
“She is just a mutated aberration forcibly catalyzed by high-level negative spirituality.”
“That's why she wasn't familiar with your supernatural abilities and combat style, allowing you two to freeze her solid with your underhanded frost tricks.”
“The one currently fighting Crowley outside is not that kind of trash.”
Old Ed paused, his tone growing deeper.
“That is most likely a high-Scale veteran who has been steeped in the supernatural field for many years.”
Elias rolled his eyes.
“Old man, talking up the enemy like this during a chat is a great way to lose friends, you know?”
In reality, Malcolm hurriedly walked in with the sailors.
The moment he entered and saw the ground floor of the lighthouse—which had been blasted apart by flames, ice, and explosive shockwaves to the point where barely anything but the load-bearing walls remained—he was utterly dazed.
Malcolm swallowed hard, turned his head, and asked Elias and Bloodsong, who were standing there,
“What's the situation here?”
“The captain is locked in a fierce battle with that priest of the Mist Veil Society outside and can't pull himself away. He sent us in to help you.”
He pointed upward, his tone urgent.
“Hurry up and light the tower lamp.”
“He said if the fight goes on like this, even he won't be able to hold out under such intense negative pollution.”
“You've come at the perfect time,”
Elias said, taking mental note of the title “priest of the Mist Veil Society” that Malcolm had mentioned.
“We were just about to go up and light the lighthouse.”
“Why don't you guys help watch this thing?”
He stepped aside, revealing the frozen sculpture of Sarah by the stairs behind him.
“By the Lord of the Raging Sea!”
Even the usually calm Malcolm couldn't help but gasp in shock.
“Is this... the keeper?”
Another sailor offered his sharp commentary:
“Sea God above!”
“This looks exactly like seafood that got rejected and sent back by the Coast Hotel kitchen.”
