Chapter 316 · Volume 1

Who Exactly Is This Guy?!

In the Dvorin's infernal vision, the surrounding world was an entirely different scene.
Within the damp air, the swirling fog was no longer simple water vapor.
It took on a blackened, turgid texture.
The reason this negative spirituality had begun to spread so wildly was simple.
It was because the Mist Veil Society cultist was continuously casting spells.
As his transcendent power resonated with the faint negative spirituality lingering in the air, the entire battlefield's environment transformed.
This meant that as long as the Mist Veil Society cultists generated fog on this reef, they would gain an almost invincible home turf advantage.
Within this home turf, the mind of any ordinary person would be instantly eroded and altered.
Yet, that was precisely where the problem lay.
Bloodsong stared at Elias, who stood right beside him.
The thread-like negative spirituality in the fog was currently swirling in massive quantities around Elias.
They frantically searched for openings, attempting to burrow into the human's mind.
However,
not a single thread of negative spirituality could successfully affect him.
When those spiritual threads collided with the surface of Elias's body, it was as if they had slammed into an invisible wall of solid bronze.
Not only was this guy completely unaffected by the hallucinations, but his lucidity was also downright eerie.
But what terrified Bloodsong even more was something else.
This guy's spirituality was ridiculously abundant!
He quickly replayed everything that had happened today in his mind.
If he remembered correctly, ever since this guy had departed from Hastings Port, he had been frequently using various Scale Two spells all along the way.
At first, Bloodsong had tried to deduce Elias's actions using the common sense of transcendents.
He assumed that as a Scale Three transcendent, Elias was frequently using Scale Two spells instead of powerful Scale Three spells to conserve his spirituality.
But as they fought their way through, this guy didn't look like he was conserving spirituality at all!
His style was beyond lacking conservation—it was outright luxurious, a complete waste!
Bloodsong clearly remembered that the Scale Two 【Moonlight Barrier】 had been swirling around Elias the entire time as if it cost absolutely nothing.
That would have been fine; keeping a defensive spell active was just prioritizing safety.
But the most incomprehensible thing was that this guy actually dared to use 【Moonfire】 to burn his own barrier!
At that moment, he had wanted to ask him: Are you not afraid of ending up in the asylum?
Normal transcendents would practically split a single drop of spirituality in half to stretch it during battle.
Yet Elias treated spells like basic attacks.
Back at the pier when they were preparing to board the ship, Bloodsong had secretly probed Elias's spiritual reserves out of curiosity.
Even after consecutive high-intensity battles, more than half of this guy's total spirituality still remained.
Although Bloodsong was surprised at the time, he didn't dwell on it too much.
He simply assumed the other party had an exceptionally strong foundation or carried some precious supernatural item that rapidly restored spirituality.
But now,
at this very moment,
on this reef,
Bloodsong's perspective had completely changed.
This guy didn't just have good talent.
His talent was downright monstrous!
Because as a Scale Three transcendent, his spirituality was currently completely full!
How was that even possible?
He had fought his way through the port.
Why was his spirituality still full?
Was he a walking fountain of mana?
Even if he didn't know why this guy hadn't used a single Scale Three spell from start to finish, this completely defied common sense.
It wasn't that Bloodsong was unaware that the Moon Lord pathway had passive spells like 【Moonlight Blessing】 which accelerated spiritual recovery under moonlight.
But 【Moonlight Blessing】 was a recovery spell; it required time.
Yet what about Elias?
Ever since they met today, this guy's display of supernatural methods had never stopped.
First, he demonstrated 【Mental Message】.
Then, 【Moonlight Veil】.
During the battles on the streets, he had also frequently used 【Moonlight Enchantment】 and 【Hexfire】.
Bloodsong wasn't sure if the guy had a passive spell like 【Malice Perception】, but judging from today's combat observations, he likely knew that too.
When calculated this way, it was absolutely terrifying.
That meant this guy possessed five spells!
And if he counted that 【Moonlight Blessing】 which restored mana at night, that made six!
What did six spells even represent?
An ordinary transcendent could, at most, learn two or three spells from the Origin Web.
Those who could acquire four were already elite talents groomed by the Landon Diocese.
As for someone possessing five or even six spells...
In any of the orthodox god churches, he would undoubtedly be a Chosen-level figure.
The kind of existence who would directly become a Missionary the moment he joined the church.
In time, he would be a Saint walking among mortals.
Yet what about Elias?
This guy was actually just a lighthouse keeper for the Wayland Shipping Company.
Earning a meager salary, doing the dirtiest and most exhausting work.
Working here as a disposable asset to be buried wherever he fell?!
Had the people of the Ascetic Society gone mad?
Did their Bishop and higher-ups have kelp growing in their brains?
How could they completely fail to notice such a once-in-a-century monstrous genius?
How could they just let him run off to some black-hearted shipping company to work as a low-level security guard?
“Uh...”
Elias suddenly felt the young bartender's gaze beside him growing increasingly bizarre.
He rubbed his nose uncomfortably, attempting to explain the current situation.
After all, being stared at like this was starting to make his skin crawl.
“These enchantment spells don't really work on me.”
Elias pointed at the strangely behaving sailors around them and said calmly,
“It's innate.”
Innate?
Are you kidding me?
Hearing those two words, Bloodsong nearly choked on his breath.
For a mixed-blood Dvorin like him with devil ancestry, resistance to enchantment spells was what you called innate!
That was a resistance literally written into his bloodline!
You're just a human, how could you be innate?!
Still,
the current situation was clearly not the time to dwell on this.
The surrounding tide fish-men had already closed in with their harpoons, and the pungent stench of fish mixed with the agonized screams of the sailors echoed all around them.
Seeing the Dvorin's highly unnatural expression, Elias decided not to bother explaining any further.
Reaching out with his large hand, he firmly grabbed the other's arm.
“Don't waste time!”
“Let's go!”
With that, he dragged him toward the shadow of the towering lighthouse.
Elias could feel Bloodsong's arm struggle slightly when he grabbed him.
The young bartender seemed rather unaccustomed to such physical contact with another man.
“I can walk on my own...”
Bloodsong protested in a low voice.
“Fine, then walk on your own!”
Elias was not one to fuss; upon hearing the protest, he cleanly let go of his grip.
His gaze had already locked onto the path ahead.
Less than ten meters away from them,
a hollow-eyed Wayland sailor was taking stiff, sleepwalking strides, mindlessly shuffling toward a tide fish-man holding a harpoon.
The fish-man peeled back its lips to reveal a maw full of razor-sharp teeth, preparing to skewer the sailor like a piece of meat on a spit.
Elias's eyes went cold.
He immediately raised his hand.
The revolver in his hand was instantly imbued with 【Moonlight Enchantment】, a silvery brilliance flashing across the barrel.
He pulled the trigger, firing at the fish-man.
“Bang!”
The crisp gunshot tore through the mist.
Yet the moment the fish-man heard the gunshot, it merely twisted its slimy, deformed body and yanked with a bizarre, bone-spur-covered hand.
It grabbed a nearby, freshly fallen sailor's corpse, using it as a shield to firmly block the bullet's trajectory.
The enchanted bullet slammed squarely into the corpse, bursting into a shower of blood.
“Damn it, even fish-men understand meat-shield tactics?”
Elias cursed under his breath.
Then, the creature realized the threat posed by these two conscious humans.
It discarded the shriveled corpse in its grasp, its emotionless, glassy fish eyes locking onto them.
Opening its mouth, it uttered a few harsh words of the sea-folk language as it lunged toward them.
Its speed was incredibly fast.
Gravel kicked up behind it as it moved.
Elias stood calmly in place, his arm as steady as cast iron.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
He calmly cocked the hammer and fired several shots in rapid succession.
The bullets trailed moonlight, weaving a silvery web of firepower through the dense fog.
Yet, the tide fish-man shamelessly grabbed another corpse off the ground to block them.
As the creature closed the distance, the pungent stench of fish rushed over them.
The harpoon was now less than three meters from Elias's chest.
In this critical split second,
Bloodsong, standing beside him, moved.
The young bartender demonstrated the combat proficiency expected of a high-level member of the Resurrection Society.
Brushing his slender fingers against his waist, he instantly raised his exquisite repeating crossbow.
His Rational Circuit activated.
Bloodsong fired a 【Tracer Round】 from his repeating crossbow.
“Whoosh—Boom!”
Following a piercing sound of tearing air, a ball of light so intense it was impossible to look at directly exploded right in front of the fish-man's face.
It was a powerful blinding burst.
No matter how savage the fish-man was, its visual organs could not withstand such a sudden, direct flash.
Letting out a pained shriek, its body instinctively adopted a defensive posture.
It quickly raised the harpoon in its hands horizontally to shield its eyes, trying to block out the blinding glare.
This was a fleeting window of opportunity.
The moment the bright light erupted, Elias had already moved like a beam of moonlight gliding through the night.
With a nimble dodge, under Bloodsong's incredulous gaze, he crossed several meters instantly to stand right in front of the fish-man.
Closing in, he drew his blade.
The Thorn Cutlass in his hand drew a cold, faint glimmer, slicing through the viscous fog.
This old weapon, which had undergone some mechanical modification inside the Gluttonous Stomach, now exhibited a razor-sharp quality.
The edge met the fish-man's hard scales without any resistance.
It plunged smoothly into the fish-man's body.
Grasping the hilt, Elias felt the blade vibrate slightly in that instant.
It was the bizarre spirituality within the weapon violently surging.
It craved release.
Elias's gaze turned fierce; without the slightest hesitation, he exerted force through his wrist, twisting the hilt violently inside the fish-man's chest cavity!
【Thorn Spell】 had actually successfully activated without storing any biological blood!
The blade no longer needed to be saturated with human blood to trigger its trait as it did before.
Now, Elias's abundant, pure moonlight spirituality was the perfect supernatural fuel.
“Boom!”
Unlike the blood-red, rotting texture of the thorns on the beach earlier,
countless white thorns covered in spikes, completely pale and even possessing a jade-like texture,
erupted frantically from within the fish-man's body like iron pythons unleashed!
They skewered the mutated deep-sea monster into a giant white cactus.
Due to the immense internal pressure, crimson blood sprayed from the cracks of the white wooden thorns like a hot spring, drenching Elias's face.
It poured down like rain.
This lent his face an inexplicably wild and menacing look in that moment.
The monster died instantly.
It was as dead as dead could be.
“Phew...”
Watching Elias expressionlessly pull out his blade and wipe the fish blood from his face,
Bloodsong, standing nearby, was dumbfounded once again.
What on earth is this guy's deal?!
