The conversation outside the cemetery couldn't stop the carnage just a wall away.
Flames reached the sky, and flesh flew everywhere.
Several investigators had already completely lost themselves in the slaughter, taking full control of this chaotic mess.
Behind the ruins in a corner, the sole mystic and two believers of the Mother Goddess of Destiny were frantically tending to the wounded on the ground.
Henry and another unfortunate investigator lay in the makeshift camp, their chests rising and falling weakly.
This could be considered barely snatching half a life back from the Mother Goddess's hands.
But at the center of the battlefield, the situation was far from optimistic.
“Boom—!”
An alchemical bomb exploded in mid-air, kicking up a shower of foul-smelling blood.
Several investigators moved like ghosts, darting through the complex maze of tombstones.
Spells and firearms in their hands poured toward the massive mountain of flesh in the center as if they cost nothing.
Firelight flickered wildly, illuminating this underworld domain as bright as day.
But it was useless.
They were barely scratching the surface.
The layer of corpse armor on the mountain of flesh, pieced together from countless scraps of meat and bone, was irrationally hard.
When bullets hit it, they only splashed a bit of pus and blood.
When spells struck it, they were merely loud noises.
The only thing that made this disgusting mass wary was a containment object issued by the agency—
M-115, the 【Sunlight Scepter】.
The investigator holding the scepter stood at a distance, frantically pushing his spirituality.
The radiance energy bursting from the tip of the scepter managed to burn several charred wounds onto the mountain of flesh.
But that was all; suppression was just suppression, and it couldn't deliver a fatal blow.
“Bang!”
An arm formed from the fusion of three half-corpses slammed down, shattering a two-meter-high tombstone into dust.
Stone fragments flew past an investigator's scalp, shearing off a patch of hair.
“This isn't working!”
The investigator who had narrowly escaped death cursed loudly.
“We have to activate M-204!”
A rebuttal immediately came through the mental channel:
“Are you crazy? We haven't received Ms. Cecil's approval!”
Illegally using high-level containment objects would result in losing a layer of skin at the very least back at the agency.
“Who cares about those damn rules at a time like this?!”
Another teammate performed a slide through the mud, barely dodging a bolt of lightning from the Storm Judge pathway thrown by the mountain of flesh.
The current struck near his heel, sending a spasm through his entire body.
He roared in a mix of shock and fury:
“You're worried about disciplinary action when our lives are on the line?!”
“Use your brain!”
“It's a product of necromancy!”
“If we suppress its regeneration speed, we'll have a chance!”
“Fuck!”
The investigator keeping the containment object had the corners of his eyes twitching as he spat out a mouthful of bloody phlegm.
“Damn it!”
His fingers deftly reached for his waist, gently turning a brass knob.
“Hum—”
The space beside him rippled like water without warning.
Without hesitation, the investigator reached his hand into that void without any obstruction.
When he pulled it back out, he held a fist-sized metal polyhedron.
It was a cage-like structure composed of sixty-four precisely interlocking triangular faces.
On every facet, dense, twisted runes were engraved that would make anyone's mind reel with just a glance.
“I'll pull back first after using it!”
He gritted his teeth, his spirituality already beginning to drain frantically, his face turning pale.
“Are you sure you want to do this?”
“One less person's firepower means one less chance!”
“Shut up! Leave it to us!”
The other investigators roared in unison, their firepower instantly rising by an order of magnitude to firmly hold the mountain of flesh's aggro.
Spirituality was poured in frantically.
Containment object M-204 emitted a piercing buzz and slowly floated into the air.
In an instant.
Within a sixty-foot diameter space centered on the mountain of flesh.
All dark erosion energy was captured by an overbearing force of law.
It no longer flowed; it no longer dissipated.
The mountain of flesh's massive body suddenly stiffened.
The speed at which the scraps of meat on its surface squirmed to repair its wounds instantly plummeted by more than half.
“Now's our chance!”
The lead investigator's eyes flashed with sharp light.
He held the Sunlight Scepter high, squeezing out every last drop of spirituality remaining in his body without reservation.
“Boom! Boom! Boom!”
Several dazzling radiance rays blasted mercilessly toward the mountain of flesh!
The mountain of flesh keenly sensed a fatal crisis.
“Sizzle—”
The piercing sound of flesh being scorched rang out.
The radiance rays pierced through the corpse armor, burning a massive hole in its chest.
But it wouldn't be crushed so easily.
The moment its armor was broken, a surge of negative spirituality erupted from within the mountain of flesh!
Even though there wasn't a single cloud in the sky.
And the bright moon was still hanging clearly in the night.
A torrential downpour of black rain began to fall without warning!
Vast amounts of negative spirituality radiated frantically from these eerie raindrops, making it hard for people to breathe.
The moment the black rain hit the ground, the mountain of flesh let out an ear-splitting roar.
Under its forced control, the rain instantly gathered in front of it.
Accompanied by the spell fluctuations of a 【Freezing Ray】, that black water transformed into a layer of indestructible black ice in the blink of an eye!
The scorching radiance rays slammed violently into the black ice.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
Layer after layer of black ice was shattered by the force, ice shards mixed with a foul stench flying everywhere.
But that fatal radiance energy also dissipated rapidly in this frantic consumption, turning into nothingness.
“It's 【Create Water】!”
“This beast actually knows how to use Create Water to make ice walls?!”
“Hit its wound!”
Like beasts smelling blood, several investigators ignored the black rain and unhesitatingly focused their fire on the hole blasted in its armor.
Bullets, spells, and alchemical explosives were all shoved in at once.
“Roar—!”
The immense pain drove the mountain of flesh into a frenzy.
A layer of black mist mixed with foul-smelling water vapor erupted from the wound.
The negative spirituality, so thick it was almost physical, swept across the area like gaseous sulfuric acid.
In the blink of an eye, the entire cemetery was completely shrouded in this black mist.
On the other side.
In front of the convent gates.
The style here was completely different from the spell-slinging battle in the distance.
It was primal, savage, and filled with pure, violent aesthetics.
“Clang!”
Sparks flew everywhere.
Guss, with a cold face, casually waved his hand, and a stream of light shot out, instantly interrupting the alchemy puppet's casting.
The combat logic of this alchemy puppet was very precise.
But in the face of absolute suppression, that precision was like a joke.
Guss gripped the hilt of the Ever-Burning Sword with both hands, the muscles in his arms suddenly bulging.
A large crater was stepped into the ground, stone fragments flying.
He was like a heavy shell fired from a cannon, carrying an unrivaled and terrifying offensive as he slashed at the alchemy puppet's head!
The flames on the blade roared frantically, even the air being scorched into distortion.
The puppet's mechanical eyes flashed red as it hurriedly raised the silver greatsword in its right hand above its head to block.
But just as the Ever-Burning Sword was about to collide with the silver greatsword.
The massive blade physically defied inertia in mid-air, pulling into a bizarre angle!
A change of direction!
Before the puppet could react.
The metal arm holding the greatsword was already firmly locked by a large red hand.
It couldn't move an inch.
Guss's cold face showed no expression.
“Rippp—”
A tooth-aching sound of tearing metal rang out!
The Ever-Burning Sword, carrying searing flames, sliced through the alchemy puppet's body at the waist as if cutting through tofu!
Blinding sparks mixed with molten metal liquid flew everywhere.
On the two severed metal surfaces of the puppet, charred and burning slash marks were left.
The upper body crashed to the ground.
As for the metal arm holding the silver greatsword, it was already being held aloft by Guss.
Electrical sparks crackled at the cut.
Inside the puppet's chest, the spiritual crystal serving as its core dimmed rapidly, finally dissipating completely into the air.
Guss even maintained that oppressive posture.
Just then, a wave of negative spirituality, too thick to be dispersed, spread from behind like a tsunami.
It was the black mist released by the mountain of flesh.
Guss's brow, looking as if cast from iron, furrowed slightly.
His broad nostrils flared twice.
“Disgusting.”
He coldly spat out those words.
“Disgusting?”
A frivolous voice came from ahead.
Along with the voice.
“Creak—”
Before Guss, the dilapidated heavy wooden door of the convent was slowly pushed open from the inside.
Luke's figure, treading on the shadows covering the ground, leisurely walked out.
“Hey! Devil.”
Luke slightly raised his chin.
“Whatever that guy is paying you, I'll pay double!”
