Chapter 40 · Volume 1

Resolution

Transforming into a cloud of black mist, Solana quickly arrived at a cellar.
Step, step, step...
Solana made her way down step by step, arriving at the underground secret room from before.
Here, she once again saw those twisted, despairing corpses piled up in every corner of the room, emitting a putrid stench.
She paid them no mind, casting only a brief glance before continuing forward.
However, the wisps of black smoke seemed to have spotted a delicious feast, dancing around gigglingly.
In an instant, they turned into ravenous wolves, pouncing wildly upon the corpses in all directions!
The moment they reached them, the black smoke coalesced into giant maws, continuously tearing and biting at every part of the corpses!
Rip! Tear! Rip, tear, rip, tear!!!
Perhaps because they hadn't eaten their fill, or perhaps because the girl was about to reach the end of the secret room, the black smoke morphed into bizarre black hands, dragging the half-eaten corpses forward bit by bit.
They chewed incessantly, producing a constant barrage of sickening munching sounds!
Scrape—scrape—!
The sound of fabric friction against the ground echoed repeatedly within the cellar, sounding exceptionally grating.
Just then, out of the corner of her eye, Solana caught sight of a trembling figure in a corner. He was panting heavily, his face completely drained of color, seemingly terrified out of his wits by the scene.
It was the cloaked man who should have died in the previous loop.
However, due to Winster's death, he hadn't been affected by the blood-heart disease this time. Huddled in the corner, he had just managed to avoid the clash between Theresa and the Devourer.
Solana spared him a few glances before quickly looking away.
Yet, a black hand suddenly extended from the mist surrounding her, lunging violently toward the cloaked man!
Before he could react, the cloaked man was grabbed by the throat and dragged forward.
“Ugh... ugh!”
The cloaked man felt his throat tighten, rendering him unable to make a sound as breathing became increasingly difficult.
He tried to flail his arms, but the black hands tightened further, nearly snapping his neck.
At the same time, countless wisps of black smoke began to bite into his skin, tearing away chunks of flesh.
The man desperately tried to call for help, but his mouth was blocked by the black smoke, leaving him able to emit only faint, pathetic whimpers:
“He... help...”
Scrape—!!!!
Scrape, scrape—scrape, scrape—!!!!
The sound of violent dragging intensified. Countless wisps of black smoke, like tentacles or thousands of spider legs, greedily extended and devoured behind her.
Rip, tear! Rip, tear, rip, tear!!!
The sounds of limbs being brutally torn off and flesh being bitten echoed continuously, filling the entire secret room!
Severed limbs and shattered remains were scattered everywhere!
Looking down from above the secret room, a massive pile of dead bodies had accumulated behind Solana!!
...
Deep within the cellar, the Devourer was currently facing off against Theresa. The two were locked in a stalemate, but Theresa clearly held the upper hand.
Just as Theresa was about to raise her dagger and strike, she suddenly sensed a commotion outside.
First, a dense clattering sound rang out.
Next, numerous small golems squeezed their way inside. Pausing briefly as if locking onto their target, they rapidly rushed toward the Devourer!
Some of them carried burning chains in their hands, while others bore crackling electric blades. Without exception, all of them were plastered with countless strange sigils!
Taken aback, the Devourer hastily released black smoke to block them.
However, these golems did not play by the rules. The moment they drew near, they detonated in violent explosions!
Boom, boom!!
Boom, boom, boom—!!
BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM—!!!!
The Devourer was instantly blasted away by the powerful shockwave, crashing hard against the adjacent wall and spitting out a mouthful of blood.
He felt as though his internal organs had been shaken completely loose.
Realizing he was powerless to turn the tide, the Devourer intended to use his black smoke to devour the magic stones on the stone platform to force an advancement.
Boom, boom, boom!
However, another round of explosions erupted, instantly turning the magic stones on the platform to ashes. Caught in the shockwave, Theresa was also sent flying, her strength completely depleted.
Yet, the powerful self-healing capabilities of the Life pathway kept her from dying.
The two lay collapsed on opposite sides of the secret room.
Both of them noticed that a bizarre black mist was slowly drifting in from the entrance of the room, identical to the ability of the Devourer!
Seeing this, Theresa was struck with shock and suspicion, a trace of panic visibly flashing in her eyes.
Another member of the Abyssal Order? Are they teaming up to get rid of me? Was I ambushed?!
The Devourer found it equally mind-boggling.
How could there be another Abyssal cultist here? I never revealed this location to any of my colleagues!
Step, step, step...
Soon, the sound of footsteps descended.
Both of them looked toward the source of the sound.
It was a short figure, currently enveloped in black mist, obscuring her appearance.
However, when the two cast their gaze behind her, they instantly froze.
For there, countless corpses were being dragged clatteringly through the narrow passage. Most of them were missing limbs, eaten beyond recognition by the black smoke.
Witnessing this bizarre scene, the Devourer's mind fell into utter chaos.
Is this also a Devourer? Are those bodies behind her from my own secret room?
Were those self-detonating golems also sent by them? Did they come to kill me?
But as fellow members of the Demon pathway, shouldn't they be on my side?!!
Before he could think further, the Devourer saw the figure transform into a cloud of black smoke, appearing right before him.
A red gleam flashed in the eyes of the person in front of him, and a shroud of black mist instantly enveloped him!
Rip, tear!
He felt nothing but countless wisps of black smoke relentlessly biting and tearing at his body!
The chill of death instantly enveloped his entire being. His flesh was devoured bit by bit by the black smoke, and his consciousness slowly faded away.
Yet, even in death, he would never understand why his "colleague" chose to devour him first, rather than finishing off the Church Sister who was hostile to the Abyssal Order.
In the end, he was completely reduced to nothingness, leaving behind not even a single bone fragment...
Just then, Solana noticed that where the Devourer had vanished, a long corridor had suddenly appeared behind him, leading even deeper into the cellar.
