He glanced in the direction where Bai Xuan and Phoebe had gone, seemingly recognizing Bai Xuan, and quickly caught up with them.
“Hey brother, wait up!” the warrior called out urgently as he caught up with Bai Xuan.
“Are there only two of you? Do you want to join our team? We happen to be short of a Healer, and we can easily negotiate the pay!”
As he spoke, he couldn't help but swallow, his eyes darting toward Phoebe from time to time.
“No, thank you,” Bai Xuan said, stopping in his tracks and declining flatly.
“We already have a team.”
The warrior didn't press further. He simply shrugged, a hint of regret showing on his face, before turning back toward the camp.
Bai Xuan took Phoebe on a brief walk around the camp, looking at things other than just the potion stall.
There were also stalls selling dry rations and worn-out weapons—mostly gear discarded by adventurers, put up for sale to scrape together a few silver coins.
He looked toward the north, where the fog was considerably thinner than around the camp.
A faint, chilling aura drifted from that direction, clearly indicating a gathering place for the undead.
“Let's go,” Bai Xuan said firmly, tightening his grip on Phoebe's hand as he led her out of the camp.
Behind them, the dim glow of the campfires and the noisy chatter of the crowd were gradually swallowed by the fog, fading into the distance.
The further north they went, the thicker the fog became, and the chilling aura in the air grew increasingly pronounced as more and more wandering undead appeared around them.
Skeleton Wanderers crawled slowly out of the crevices in the stone walls, the faint blue soul flames in their hollow eye sockets flickering in the fog.
Mist-Shadow Wraiths drifted through the air, their translucent bodies appearing and disappearing in the thick fog.
The air was thick with the stench of rot and bone dust, making it hard to breathe, while the ground beneath their feet was damp with dark red stains.
It was impossible to tell whether it was the fluid of the undead or the blood of adventurers.
Bai Xuan continued to lead the way, with Phoebe following closely behind, her grip on the double-bitted battleaxe tightening slightly as she remained vigilant of their surroundings.
Holding the Staff of Guidance, the golden light at its tip shone brilliantly through the dim, heavy fog.
Around them, several adventurer teams could be seen in the distance, each fighting their own battles.
Some were struggling to clear the undead around them, while others advanced slowly and cautiously.
The crisp clanging of clashing swords and the low chanting of mages casting spells intermingled in the air.
A man who looked like a warrior rushed out from the side, swinging his longsword to cleave a lunging Skeleton Wanderer in two.
Turning around, he happened to see Bai Xuan leading Phoebe straight toward the densest gathering of the undead. Frowning, he shouted out.
“Hey, it's dangerous over there! Physical attacks don't work on Mist-Shadow Wraiths. Wait for our Mage to come support!”
Before he could even finish his sentence, Bai Xuan had already led Phoebe into the swarm of undead, with no intention of stopping.
In an instant, countless Skeleton Wanderers lunged at them from all directions, their sharp bone claws gleaming with a cold light as they aimed for the duo's vital spots.
Bai Xuan's expression remained unchanged. Without a trace of panic, he swept the Staff of Guidance out in a wide arc.
With a sharp crack, the ribs of a skeleton shattered, and it instantly collapsed into a pile of broken bones.
Phoebe quickly covered the flank. Raising her double-bitted battleaxe high, she brought it down with a fierce chop, splitting another Skeleton Wanderer in two with clean, decisive movements.
However, the undead were simply too numerous, coming wave after wave.
The Mist-Shadow Wraiths were particularly troublesome, as physical attacks were practically useless against them.
Screeching as they dived from midair, they thrust their sharp claws straight toward Bai Xuan's face with astonishing speed.
Bai Xuan paused his steps, then slammed the Staff of Guidance hard into the ground.
“Concussive Field!”
Golden light instantly erupted from the tip of the staff.
A circular shockwave rippled outward from Bai Xuan in all directions, dispersing the thick fog wherever it passed.
The lunging Skeleton Wanderers were blown away like dry twigs swept up by a gale, tumbling through the air.
They shattered into piles of broken bones on impact, unable to move ever again.
The Mist-Shadow Wraiths let out sharp screeches as they were violently pushed back by the shockwave, falling into a brief state of dizziness.
In a mere instant, all the undead near Bai Xuan were completely cleared out.
Most had been killed outright, while the few that were merely knocked back had temporarily lost their ability to fight.
The warrior who had shouted earlier froze in place, his longsword suspended mid-swing. His face was a mask of utter shock, and for a moment, he forgot to continue fighting.
He stared at the white-robed figure, who had used only a single move.
The surrounding undead had been wiped completely clean, leaving no trace behind, like snow swept away by a shovel.
Meanwhile, he was still struggling against two Skeleton Wanderers and had even sustained a few wounds.
“What are you dazing off for?! Shield Warriors, hold the line! The wraiths are about to charge!”
The Mage's voice came from behind, laced with urgency.
Only then did the warrior snap out of it. Hurriedly tightening his grip on his longsword, he slashed at the undead in front of him.
Yet, from the corner of his eye, he couldn't help but steal glance after glance toward Bai Xuan.
By now, Bai Xuan was already moving forward with Phoebe.
His pace was leisurely and his expression calm, as if the battle just now had been nothing more than an inconsequential stroll.
In the distance, an Archer drew his bow and released an arrow, piercing through a Skeleton Wanderer. He couldn't help but mutter under his breath.
“What kind of skill was that? That was way too powerful...”
Beside him, his companion was busy blocking a lunging Shadow Rat with his shield and had no time to respond.
Within just a few breaths after Bai Xuan and Phoebe left the area, new undead emerged from the thick fog.
They quickly filled the empty space that had just been cleared.
Skeleton Wanderers crawled out from the crevices once more, and Mist-Shadow Wraiths slowly drifted down from above.
They reclaimed that section of the mining tunnel, as if the battle just now had never happened.
Yet, the adventurers still engaged in battle would never forget that scene.
“It's that solo Healer. That move of his just now actually cleared out a whole area of undead!”
Panting heavily, the warrior cleaved a skeleton in front of him, his voice filled with disbelief.
“I saw it,” the Mage said grimly, frowning as he continuously cast ice spikes to suppress the distant Mist-Shadow Wraiths.
“Our entire team combined can't even compare to that kind of power.”
“...Forget it. They have their way, and we have ours. Let's not get distracted.”
The Archer fired another arrow and stopped talking, focusing entirely on the undead before him.
Bai Xuan didn't look back, nor did he care about the chatter of the adventurers behind him. He simply continued heading north.
The golden light on the Staff of Guidance flickered as it illuminated the path ahead.
Phoebe followed quietly behind him, her eyes alert as she guarded Bai Xuan's side.
Advancing all the way, the entrance to the eighth floor finally appeared before them.
Floating in midair at the entrance was a massive Specter, radiating a chilling aura.
