Chapter 34 · Volume 1

Watching the Drama

Leona was sitting cross-legged on a stone slab in front of the cave, mana rippling around her. She was clearly in the middle of cultivation.
As a Three-star Saint-tier, she naturally needed to cultivate. However, she couldn't do so at the same time as Zhang Ye. If she did, she would absorb all the mana particles in the vicinity, leaving him with nothing to cultivate with.
Magic patterns flickered slightly on the ground around her as the forest's mana converged toward the spot.
This was a Medium-tier Mana Gathering Circle Leona had set up to boost both her and Zhang Ye’s cultivation speed.
She wasn't a professional Magic Circle Master, so without the proper materials, she couldn't set up a high-level version.
After all, to combat the mana erosion, she had used up everything in her spatial ring that could be converted into mana. Otherwise, she likely wouldn't have lasted until Zhang Ye found her.
Suddenly, she opened her beautiful eyes, a flame-red lotus flashing briefly within them.
She raised an eyebrow and looked into the distance.
She could sense Zhang Ye’s aura out there, along with other mana fluctuations.
Those fluctuations were nothing to Leona, but they were definitely lethal for Zhang Ye.
Judging by the ripples, it seemed like two magical beasts were fighting, and Zhang Ye was very close to the action.
Could he be getting ganged up on by two beasts at once?
But the power she had placed inside his body hadn't sent back any danger signals.
Curiosity piqued, Leona’s long fiery-red hair swayed slightly, and the space around her seemed to vibrate.
A powerful Divine Sense spread out, instantly enveloping the area for dozens of li.
Everything within that range fell under Leona’s perception.
As if looking from a god’s perspective, she immediately saw the two magical beasts locked in combat.
A Rockland Monitor and a Green Vine Snake King?
There were also many Green Vine Snakes surrounding them.
And then, three hundred meters away, there was a little bald head.
Leona: “...”
At that moment, Zhang Ye was sitting on a small stool with his legs crossed, eating seeds and watching the show with great interest. He even had the leisure to provide a live commentary.
“Oh man, the Rockland Monitor lets out a roar: ‘Screw you!’ and then unleashes an [Earthquake Giant Spike]!”
“But it’s useless!”
“The Green Vine Snake King can fly!”
“The Green Vine Snake King is pissed about the attack! It slaps the Rockland Monitor right in the face with its massive tail! And it’s venomous! Physical and magical double damage!”
“The two sides are currently in a stalemate, but it’s clear the Green Vine Snake King has a slight advantage because it has hundreds of little lackeys—hic... cough, cough. I choked because I didn't use any punctuation when I spoke...”
“Gujiu, come, have some seeds.”
“Gujiu~”
“Eh, strange. I remember the Rockland Monitor having one more skill it hasn't used yet... Hmm?”
“The Rockland Monitor opened its mouth! It’s using it! It’s using it!”
“It’s the Tier Eight magic [Earth Roar]! It causes sonic damage while granting the user a shield, and it even has a powerful Taunt ef—fect...”
“Holy crap, it taunted me! I can't take this!” The taunted Zhang Ye jumped up from his stool. Without a second thought, he fired a 100-multiplier [Light Ray], which slammed into the Rockland Monitor’s shield.
Light magic possessed extreme penetration power, and a [Light Ray] boosted by a hundred times the mana reached the power of Tier Eight. The beam of light, thicker than a human thigh, pierced straight through the shield and hit the Rockland Monitor’s chest. The chest armor instantly shattered!
At that exact moment, the Green Vine Snake King happened to be lunging at the monitor. By sheer coincidence, it collided with the light beam, which sliced off a small section of its tail.
Rockland Monitor: “...”
Green Vine Snake King: “...”
Leona: “...”
Zhang Ye: “...”
Gujiu: “Gujiu?”
“Who told you to taunt me...” Zhang Ye muttered. Then he turned and bolted, not forgetting to take his stool and Gujiu with him.
Leona saw the whole thing. The bold, beautiful woman laughed so hard she slapped her thigh, her chest heaving with mirth.
“Hahaha, this kid!”
She wiped away the tears of laughter from the corners of her eyes, her gaze full of amusement.
This boy was truly too interesting.
And quite clever. Sensing the tunnels around Zhang Ye, she knew he had prepared them in advance. This battle between the snake and the lizard had also been caused by him.
To become a powerhouse, strength was the foundation and state of mind was the root, but one's intelligence couldn't lag behind either.
From the looks of it, this kid’s IQ was definitely not low.
Furthermore, for a mere Tier Six to dare scheme against a late-stage Tier Eight, his courage was considerable.
He was just a bit of a knucklehead. While others were fighting, he dared to bring a stool to watch the show from the sidelines, even providing commentary.
“Watching” the little bald head running wild with his stool in her perception, Leona’s hands started to itch.
With a grin, her mana vibrated!
“Pure Mana Domain!”
A powerful yet invisible ripple of mana spread out, instantly enveloping Zhang Ye’s location.
Then, from her god-like perspective, Leona reached out her hand and used her slender fingers to gently stroke the back of Zhang Ye’s head.
On the other side, just as Zhang Ye left his original spot, a massive boulder smashed down.
As the instigator, the Rockland Monitor held a deep grudge against Zhang Ye. Seeing that he dared to attack it again, it naturally wasn't happy.
However, the Green Vine Snake King wouldn't let it leave. After having a piece of its tail sliced off, its fury exploded, and its combat power actually increased rather than decreased.
The two giant beasts continued to brawl.
Zhang Ye didn't know this and thought the magical beast was chasing him, so he kept running without stopping.
He had been bewildered just now. He hadn't expected to be taunted from such a distance.
When he was taunted, he felt angry just looking at the Rockland Monitor. His commentary had gotten a bit too heated, and in the heat of the moment, he had fired off a spell without thinking. Thinking back on it now, it was actually quite thrilling.
He laughed as he ran, feeling like he was top-tier.
Right then, the mana behind his head suddenly condensed without warning and gently stroked the back of his head.
“Oh-ho-ho-ho...” Zhang Ye suddenly shuddered. He took Gujiu off his shoulder and placed it on his head.
“Gujiu, stop messing around,” he said.
Gujiu: “Gujiu?”
Leona couldn't help but laugh as she gently stroked the back of Zhang Ye’s head again.
“Oh-ho-ho...” Zhang Ye shuddered again and shrunk his neck.
That ice-cold sensation touching his bald scalp was just like someone shoving a cold hand down your neck in the middle of winter. It was incredibly stimulating.
“Gujiu, stop it! I’m running for my life!” Zhang Ye took Gujiu off his head again, held it in his arms, and lectured it seriously. “You can't disturb Big Brother while he’s running for his life, got it—oh-ho-ho...”
Before he could finish, another chill hit the back of his head.
At that moment, Gujiu was lying in his hands, looking at him expectantly.
Gujiu: (。•ω•。) Gujiu?
It wasn't Gujiu?
Could it be a ghost?!
He slowly stopped running and looked around blankly.
“Is it a ghost...” he whispered.
This was a colorful magical world; there had to be ghosts, right?
He looked left and right but found no trace of anything.
Was it really a ghost?
Was it...
The light in his eyes wasn't fear, but... anticipation?
Watching Zhang Ye at this moment, Gujiu suddenly let out a cry: “Gu~~jiu!”
Zhang Ye blinked, slowly snapping out of it.
“What ghost? It’s me.” Right then, Leona’s voice echoed in Zhang Ye’s mind.
“Big Nana?” Zhang Ye said subconsciously.
Then he received a sharp rap on the forehead.
This time, Zhang Ye saw it clearly. It was a translucent blue hand made of mana.
At the same time, mana converged in front of him, eventually taking the form of Leona.
So it was Leona’s doing. He had thought it was a ghost, which made him get his hopes up for nothing...
“Big Nana, how did you do that?” Zhang Ye couldn't help but ask.
“It’s just a Pure Mana Domain. Within the domain, I can freely manipulate mana and release magic at any point.”
As she spoke, a Lion Fireball manifested in front of Zhang Ye.
Zhang Ye clicked his tongue in wonder, then asked, “Can I do that too?”
“You can, but your tier needs to be higher. To condense a Pure Mana Domain, you need to at least reach the Magister realm,” Leona said.
Magister. That meant Tier Nine.
He had a long way to go!
Zhang Ye nodded, then rubbed his hands together with a grin. “Well... Big Nana, those two magical beasts have pretty much finished their fight. How about you go and finish them off?”
Leona’s lips curled into a smile. “What, you started this and now you can't finish it?”
Zhang Ye immediately puffed out his chest. “How could I not be able to finish it? I’m just worried Big Nana might be hungry...”
Leona chuckled and waved her hand. “No. Everything must have a beginning and an end. You caused this, so you have to settle it yourself.”
Hearing this, Zhang Ye could only sigh.
After spending these days together, Zhang Ye had naturally grasped some of Leona’s personality.
As long as he met Leona’s inner expectations, he could make small requests or act a bit spoiled. But if he didn't meet those expectations, Leona would never go easy on him.
Zhang Ye also knew Leona was doing this for his own good, so he nodded and ran back with his stool.
“Let’s go! Back to watching the drama!”
