“I see.”
After listening to Yue Shi’s explanation, Bai Wanyang looked like he had finally seen the light. Then, he frowned. “Just this one? Can it really kill the Queen Bee? What if she doesn’t die completely and tries to take us down with her in a desperate counterattack?”
“Don’t worry, I’m certain,” Yue Shi said with total confidence.
With the power of a single Purification gem, killing a creature as massive as the Queen Bee was nearly impossible.
The reason Yue Shi was so confident was that he had killed enough supernatural creatures today to acquire a brand-new ability. His earlier spacing out had been to check the details of this new power.
The Bee Women, venomous bees, and monsters were all guarding the Queen Bee, rebuilding the damaged parts of the Hive as fast as they could. Even though Yue Shi and Bai Wanyang were close, the creatures didn’t choose to hunt down the intruders.
This gave Yue Shi and Bai Wanyang enough time to catch their breath and talk.
“The Queen Bee seems completely unable to move,” Bai Wanyang observed after watching for a while.
“Indeed. In that regard, she’s very similar to some common bees,” Yue Shi said, formulating a simple tactic on the fly.
“In a moment, you’ll be responsible for attacking the Queen Bee’s guards to break a gap in their defense. I’ll be the one to assassinate the Queen Bee.”
“Uh... will that really work?” Bai Wanyang asked, sounding uncertain.
Yue Shi gave him a reassuring look.
Whether it would work or not, they had to try. As the source of the Bee Woman species, killing the Queen Bee might even grant Yue Shi another brand-new ability!
While this bold move was quite irresponsible regarding Bai Wanyang’s safety, Yue Shi was never a good person to begin with. Besides, didn’t Bai Wanyang have that “HP Lock”?
He actually wanted to see for himself what the effect of Near-Death HP Lock was really like.
Bai Wanyang took a deep breath. His injuries from earlier were not light, but since Yue Shi spoke with such conviction, he couldn't bring himself to refuse. He forced himself to stand up.
“Pfft—”
Blood suddenly sprayed from Bai Wanyang’s mouth. Having just stood up, he slowly collapsed back to the ground.
Fearing Yue Shi would misunderstand, he quickly said, “I was ambushed again. I’m not... I’m not deserting the field.”
Hearing this, Yue Shi scanned their surroundings. The heavy rain and thick fog obscured his vision, and the enemy’s attack had been silent and traceless. He couldn't tell where the ambusher was hiding.
“There’s actually a guy like that hiding in the shadows. What a pain.” Yue Shi narrowed his eyes slightly. If someone dared to ruin his plans, they had better not get caught by him!
Bai Wanyang coughed twice, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth. “I’m very familiar with this kind of sneak attack. I used to take this kind of damage all the time.”
“Who is it?” Yue Shi asked, though he had already vaguely guessed the ambusher’s identity.
“Zhu Qunqing,” Bai Wanyang spat out the name slowly. “Zhu Qunqing’s supernatural power is centered in his eyes. Besides basic X-ray Vision, he also has Killing Gaze and Weakness Detection.”
“X-ray Vision and Weakness Detection are both support abilities; you can probably guess what they do from the names.”
“But Killing Gaze is a real scumbag attack ability. It ignores distance. As long as Zhu Qunqing can see you clearly and completely with his line of sight, you’ll take damage from him.”
When it came to Zhu Qunqing’s abilities, Bai Wanyang knew them better than anyone. After all, the grudge between the two ran deep.
Yue Shi thought for a moment and said, “If the ambusher really is Zhu Qunqing, then this rain and fog should interfere with his abilities too. If he wants to sneak attack us, he must be relatively close.”
Bai Wanyang looked around but found nothing. He clenched his fists so hard they shook, veins bulging at his temples. “That piece of trash Zhu Junjie... I’m going to kill him!”
Yue Shi held the umbrella over his head. “I’ll try to handle the Queen Bee alone. If we delay any longer, the milk tea shop and the underground Hive will be fully rebuilt. All our previous efforts will have gone down the drain.”
“You’ll be okay protecting yourself here alone, right?”
Bai Wanyang nodded heavily. “Don’t worry, I can’t die.”
Even if he couldn't participate in the fight right now, he at least wouldn't hold his companion back.
In truth, even if he had shaken his head, Yue Shi wouldn't have stayed. It was merely a polite inquiry.
Yue Shi turned and charged into the rain and fog toward the Queen Bee.
Seeing his figure approach, every supernatural creature in the Bee Woman’s nest acted as if they were facing a mortal enemy.
The commotion on this street had been massive; there were likely many people watching this place—the local gangs of Peace Alley, the missing Zhu Qunqing and Bai Qingyu...
Bai Wanyang was also focused on Yue Shi’s every move. He saw Yue Shi holding a sharp short sword, charging with overwhelming momentum, hacking wildly at the monsters and Bee Women guarding the Queen. Abandoning his usual “fancy dismemberment” routine, Yue Shi’s killing efficiency was incredibly high.
However, although the Queen Bee could not move, she was not defenseless. She let out a furious hiss, and countless thick, sticky liquids shot out from the pores on her body. These liquids solidified around her, forming a protective layer.
In the next second, Yue Shi suddenly made a throwing motion.
Immediately following that, a burst of sustained, dazzling light flashed.
The light was blinding. Bai Wanyang was forced to close his eyes, and he wasn't the only one; everyone’s vision was currently blocked.
By the time the light dissipated, Yue Shi had completely breached the defensive line around the Queen Bee. One hand had pierced through the carapace of her first pair of appendages. Leaning forward slightly, he leaned in close to the Queen Bee’s massive head and whispered something.
The Queen Bee’s body instantly froze. her skin began to rot rapidly, and she let out a shriek unlike anything they had heard before.
Yue Shi retreated hastily as several layers of the barriers on his body shattered in succession. The ground nearby was torn apart by the sonic vibrations.
The Queen Bee’s compound eyes reflected Yue Shi’s figure, filled with pure malice and hatred, but that soon turned into a deathly silence.
“Mama...” Before the end, she let out a strange, broken howl of those syllables.
Then, her body began to twitch violently, collapsing like melting wax. The structure of the underground Hive crumbled, and golden honey seeped out from everywhere, filling the air with a putrid, sweet stench.
Killing the Queen Bee was a bit easier than expected. Yue Shi lingered by the massive corpse for a moment, seemingly zoning out again. It wasn't until the ground beneath him began to cave in that he retreated at high speed, grabbing Bai Wanyang and sprinting further away.
“Brother, you’re amazing,” Bai Wanyang said with total sincerity.
“Save the talk for later. This place is about to collapse.”
No sooner had Yue Shi spoken than a thunderous roar echoed behind them.
Turning around, they saw the buildings of the entire street shaking and trembling. The original milk tea shop was nothing but ruins, and the ground began to sink, centered right on that spot.
