Yue Shi’s breathing quickened slightly as he looked at his seventh ability.
【Shadow Soldiers: Sync】
【All that the eyes see, I see】
【All that the ears hear, I hear】
【“Fantastic, I finally know everything!”】
This ability was a straightforward and powerful enhancement of 【Shadow Soldiers】. Simply put, it allowed Yue Shi to share senses with the ravens he summoned.
What the ravens saw, he saw.
What the ravens heard, he heard.
Although it wasn't the powerful offensive ability he had been longing for, this miraculous support ability was still quite impressive.
So far, Yue Shi had obtained seven supernatural powers. Although it seemed like a lot at first glance, these seven powers always gave him a strong sense of déjà vu—
It was as if they were individual parts stripped from a single whole.
He had felt this when he obtained 【Hidden Black Feathers】 and 【Demon Feather Barrier】, and this new discovery further confirmed his suspicion.
Only one of the tentacles on the black stone tablet had transitioned from a stone carving to an active state. Once all the eyes on this tentacle—each representing a supernatural power—were open, perhaps all the abilities would merge into one, becoming a... crow?
This was a logical deduction based on the existing clues. After all, an egg had been what activated the tentacle in the first place, and most of the abilities Yue Shi had obtained revolved around the imagery of a "crow."
"Hey, hey, hey, what are you spacing out for?" Zhong Mo nudged Yue Shi's shoulder.
Yue Shi’s expression had been strange for a while now. Zhong Mo didn't want to pry into his privacy, but he also didn't want to stand in the middle of the road with him, shivering in the cold wind.
"Oh, sorry. I just got lost in thought for a moment," Yue Shi replied with a mild, perfunctory excuse.
Having gained a new ability, he was in a relatively good mood, and even his temper had softened a bit.
With that thought, he summoned several ravens from the shadows and sent them flying in all directions.
Zhong Mo didn't understand why he had suddenly done that, but he didn't ask.
In Zhong Mo's eyes, Yue Shi had always been a mysterious, powerful, and inexplicably odd person.
Yue Shi tested the effects of his new ability and suddenly frowned deeply.
He had indeed obtained the vision of the Shadow Soldier ravens, but with so many ravens flying in different directions, each providing a different perspective, he felt his brain instantly overload. He couldn't process that much information at once.
It took him a while to barely adapt to the state. His vision felt as if it were layered with the monitoring feeds of numerous cameras, and his ears were filled with the noisy whistling of the wind.
But... as long as he didn't focus specifically on those extra images and sounds, his brain would ignore them as junk data and white noise.
Zhong Mo asked, "Are we going to keep looking for supernatural creatures? You've killed almost all the low-level, harmless ones in Amber City. I know the activity ranges of some in the Chaos Zone outside the city, but they're generally stronger and won't be as easy to handle."
Yue Shi waved him off. "Forget about going out of the city. Let's call it a day..."
Just then, his phone suddenly rang.
He took it out and saw that the caller was Ling Xun.
Yue Shi pressed the answer button, and Ling Xun’s unfriendly voice immediately came through the speaker: "Where are you? Do you know what time it is? Why haven't you reported to the Bureau yet!"
Yue Shi slapped his thigh. Damn, he had forgotten all about it!
"I'm so sorry, Section Chief Ling. I overslept. I'm not even out of bed yet," he casually fabricated an even more casual excuse.
"Are you saying you woke up late on the very first day you were supposed to report to the Investigation Bureau?!" Ling Xun’s voice rose several octaves, vibrating with clear anger.
"What kind of place do you think the Investigation Bureau is? A wet market? Can you at least try to have a professional attitude!"
"Do you have any idea? I specifically notified the colleagues in the department, and they’re all waiting to welcome you. You actually had the nerve to flake on me!"
"I'm sorry, Section Chief Ling," Yue Shi apologized without an ounce of sincerity, then proceeded to make excuses. "So much happened yesterday, and I was exhausted. My house was even trashed. It's only natural that I couldn't get up this morning."
Yue Shi didn't care about anyone else's feelings. Before Ling Xun could continue fuming, he asked directly, "Do the Investigation Bureau's employee benefits include real estate? If not a house, a dormitory would work. The place I'm renting is uninhabitable now; I need to move."
Ling Xun said helplessly, "What kind of daydream are you having? How could the Investigation Bureau possibly give you a house? We do have dorms, though. You can move in whenever you want."
Yue Shi: "Alright then."
"Alright, what? Hurry up and get to the Investigation Bureau to report! Everyone is waiting for you!"
"No problem."
The call ended.
Zhong Mo immediately said, "I assume you don't need me for anything else? If not, I'll head out. If I need something, I'll contact you at any time."
Yue Shi nodded. "Don't worry. I've always been a reliable guy. Since you helped me today, I'll naturally help you in the future"... Not.
Having received the promise he wanted, Zhong Mo turned and left.
After watching Zhong Mo walk away, Yue Shi hailed a taxi and headed straight for the Investigation Bureau.
