By the time Yue Shi left the Investigation Bureau, the sky had already begun to darken.
He walked out openly. Although he still maintained his undercover identity, he had visited Ling Xun this time under the pretext of "seeking help."
Besides, his undercover status was likely becoming useless anyway.
If Jiang Cifei hadn't lied, he was the first mole Ling Xun had planted, yet he was attacked almost immediately and forced to flee the city and go into hiding.
The second to run into trouble was Fang Jianxin, and now Yue Shi himself was being targeted. He strongly suspected that there was a mole within the Investigation Bureau leaking information to the outside.
The person who had ordered Pei Yue via email to act as quickly as possible had likely received some kind of tip-off, which explained their urgency.
The existence of Boss Pi had already been reported to Ling Xun, and Yue Shi sincerely hoped that this piece of vital intelligence would be leaked as soon as possible.
As he walked through a bustling commercial street, Yue Shi quietly vanished into the crowd.
Hidden Black Feathers provided a triple effect of Physical Invisibility, Psychological Invisibility, and Occult Invisibility. No one noticed as Yue Shi began to double back along his original route.
Out of a lack of trust in the Investigation Bureau, he wanted to head back and observe. Ideally, he wanted to uncover the details of his "colleagues'" abilities. If things took a turn for the worse in the future and he needed to deal with them, having this information in advance would allow him to catch them off guard.
Back inside the Investigation Bureau, the conflict between Zhu Qunqing and Bai Wanyang had escalated. The two were fighting tooth and nail in the training field.
Strangely, no one stepped in to stop them. A group of staff members stood outside the training field watching the spectacle, with Ling Xun even leading the crowd of onlookers.
Standing to Ling Xun's left was another female transcendent of the Bureau, Wei Siqi. She still wore her hair in a simple, high ponytail, and the schadenfreude on her face was almost completely undisguised.
Beside her stood another person who looked exactly like her, except she had short hair. She appeared to be Wei Siqi's twin sister.
On the training field, Bai Wanyang was being beaten quite badly. He had a somewhat thin build and narrow, fox-like eyes, giving him the appearance of a harmless, good student. One could tell at a glance that he was a genuine youth, unlike Jiang Cifei, who was just an old man trying to look young.
Bai Wanyang's clothes were riddled with tears, he was covered in dust, and his mouth was bruised and bloodied.
In contrast, Zhu Qunqing was only slightly out of breath, clearly in much better condition.
However, despite being in better shape, Zhu Qunqing's face was filled with anxiety and restlessness. Bai Wanyang, on the other hand, appeared calm and composed, as if he still had plenty of strength in reserve.
Yue Shi couldn't quite make sense of the situation, so he drifted closer to Ling Xun and the others to eavesdrop on their conversation.
He heard Wei Siqi remark with a sigh, "It hasn't been that long, yet Little Bai is already able to hold his own against Zhu Qunqing. I remember the day he first arrived; Zhu Qunqing knocked him flat with a single move and spent ages mocking him with a foot on his head."
Her sister chimed in from the side, "There's always a bigger fish. That creepy loser Zhu Qunqing, just because he has a special ability, thinks he's the protagonist of some story every single day. Look at him getting his face slapped now."
Wei Siqi sneered, "I hope he gets beaten to death."
"Ahem..." Ling Xun coughed lightly from the side, reminding them in a low voice, "Don't say such divisive things. Zhu Qunqing is still our colleague for now."
Wei Siqi rolled her eyes disdainfully. "Section Chief Ling, you've probably been sick of him for a long time yourself, haven't you?"
"How is that possible? I have always been most protective of my subordinates!" Ling Xun denied flatly.
Wei Siqi said indifferently, "The basic function of Zhu Qunqing's eyes is X-ray Vision. I don't think you can truly understand how much the female colleagues in the Bureau loathe him."
"He wears sunglasses and claims he doesn't look where he shouldn't, but I still occasionally feel that offensive gaze. It's truly disgusting."
Ling Xun explained, "Director Tang places a lot of value on the two secondary abilities attached to his X-ray Vision: Killing Gaze and Weakness Detection."
"Mainly Weakness Detection. It has miraculous effects when dealing with unfamiliar supernatural entities and can significantly reduce casualties. You've all been beneficiaries of that."
Wei Siqi fell silent for a moment. "If there weren't any benefits at all, do you think I would have tolerated him this long? He really thinks he's the protagonist and that every female will naturally like him."
Ling Xun replied, "It's not like I'm the one who provoked you. Don't take your temper out on me."
Wei Siqi took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, Section Chief Ling. I got a bit emotional."
Ling Xun waved it off good-naturedly. "It's alright."
"Actually, Zhu Qunqing's eyes don't just look at women. He looks at men, too," Wei Siqi added calmly.
Ling Xun was shocked. "No... no way?!"
Seeing Ling Xun's face change, Wei Siqi's tone took on a hint of mockery. "Why not? He looks at women out of sexual interest. As for men... he's probably just comparing sizes."
"You know... he's mocked you behind your back more than once. Haven't you noticed before? He always acts especially superior when he's facing you."
Upon hearing this, Ling Xun's face shifted through several colors like a palette.
Wei Siqi's sister took this moment to offer some 'advice.' "Don't be angry, Section Chief Ling. After all, Zhu Qunqing's ability is very useful to the Bureau, and you are a beneficiary too. Just endure his little quirks. It's not like being looked at a few times will kill you."
Ling Xun was so angry he laughed. "Wei Jianxian, stop being so sarcastic."
"This was my mistake, and I apologize to you both. I couldn't empathize with you before, but now that the knife is in my own back, I don't want to endure it for even a minute. I feel like I'll never be able to get along with Zhu Qunqing happily again."
Wei Siqi felt the frustration in her heart dissipate slightly. "It's good that you understand. You're not completely beyond saving. If you had continued to ignore this matter so carelessly, we would have definitely made a scene."
"How did you discover this... quirk of Zhu Qunqing's? I didn't notice it at all," Ling Xun asked, feeling a bit suspicious that the twin sisters might be exaggerating to push Zhu Qunqing out.
Wei Siqi rubbed her chin. "It was just an intuition before, but I confirmed it last time when we were handling the Bee Woman riot at the first middle school."
"There were two non-official transcendents there who were both good-looking and fit. You didn't notice Zhu Qunqing's little eyes at the time, but he was truly jealous and losing his mind."
"Of course, being surpassed in looks or physique isn't that big of a deal in the end. The one who truly broke Zhu Qunqing's mental state is Little Bai."
Ling Xun was speechless. After a long while, he finally said, "Bai Wanyang's abilities are indeed worthy of envy. Near-Death HP Lock, Mid-Battle Breakthrough, and Energy Cannon... even I can't help but let my mind wander sometimes..."
Bai Wanyang was like a cockroach; he was impossible to kill and only grew stronger the more he fought. Zhu Qunqing had tried to deliver a fatal blow several times, yet Bai Wanyang would always stand back up, full of life, and counterattack.
