Chapter 492 · Volume 1

The Library

Yue Shi had already realized how much of a trap this school was. He seriously suspected that there were many more hidden clauses waiting for people to trip over.
Furthermore, no notice for classes had been received yet, nor was there any schedule. Everyone was currently in a state of free activity.
Did the students have to rely entirely on self-study?
The doctor had warned him to graduate as soon as possible and not to linger, so he planned to head to the library to supplement his knowledge.
When Yue Shi arrived at the library, he saw a notice posted on the automatic sensor doors: "Please swipe your student card to enter."
He pulled his student card from his pocket and tapped it against the sensor.
Beep! A green light flickered, and the doors slid open.
As he walked inside, footsteps echoed behind him; other freshmen were also trying to enter the library.
Beep-beep! A red light flashed.
"Oh my god, why won't my card swipe?" a young man cried out, repeatedly tapping his student card against the sensor as the red light blinked incessantly.
Someone nearby remarked, "Is your card out of points?"
The young man froze.
"Entering the library costs 1 point per visit," another person reminded him.
The young man's face paled. "It costs points just to enter the library? Talk about bad luck."
The people queuing behind him simply bypassed him and walked inside.
Standing inside the doors, Yue Shi watched the scene unfold. He touched his own student card—this empty card with a balance of zero points had allowed him in smoothly just now.
Tang Zhuhe really was a great person.
The library was massive, with an incredibly high vaulted ceiling and several giant crystal chandeliers hanging from it.
Rows of bookshelves stretched into the distance, towering so high that there weren't even any ladders in sight.
Fortunately, those who could make it here were not ordinary people.
Many freshmen whose severed limbs had just been reattached were currently in the library.
Yue Shi walked past row after row of shelves, his gaze scanning the titles. 《Coordinate Navigation for Magical Girl Worlds》, 《Basic Theory of Causality》, 《Practice and Application of Entropy Reversal》, 《Interpretation of School Rules (3rd Edition)》...
Every book had a label on its spine that read: 'For In-Library Reading Only, No External Loans.'
He pulled one out, flipped through it, and put it back.
He couldn't understand a word of it; he felt like an illiterate.
Yue Shi walked deep into the library, stopping in a relatively quiet corner. The books on the shelves here were titles like 《Graduation Placement Guide》, 《Introduction to Popular Worlds》, 《Hazard Avoidance Manual for Niche Worlds》, and 《How to Survive in Apocalypse Worlds》.
Yue Shi reached out and pulled the 《Graduation Placement Guide》 from the shelf.
The book wasn't thick. The cover was deep blue, printed with the words 'Designated Reference for the Multi-World Joint Higher Vocational School' at the top, with the title below.
He opened the first page to the table of contents.
Chapter One: Overview of Graduation Exam Scores and Placement Rules.
Chapter Two: Introduction to Worlds for Scores Above 450 (Relatively Safe Worlds, Resource-Rich Worlds, Advanced Civilization Worlds).
Chapter Three: Introduction to Worlds for Scores 300-450 (Medium-Risk Worlds, Developing Worlds).
Chapter Four: Introduction to Worlds for Scores 150-300 (High-Risk Worlds, War-Torn Worlds).
Chapter Five: Introduction to Worlds for Scores 1-150 (Apocalypse Worlds, Collapsed Worlds, Unspeakable Worlds).
Chapter Six: Directory of 0-Point Worlds (Special Feature).
Yue Shi flipped to Chapter Five. The list of apocalypse worlds was very long.
Mad Heavenly Dao, Absolute Zero, Game Descent, Peach Blossom Spring...
The names were all strange, and each had a description below it detailing the world's characteristics, special rules, and survival suggestions.
He skimmed through them quickly and then turned to Chapter Six, the Directory of 0-Point Worlds.
【Nonsensical Comedy Theater】: Chaotic rules, collapsed logic. Any action may trigger an unpredictable chain reaction. Suggestion: Do not attempt to understand, do not attempt to reason, do not attempt to resist. Keep smiling and cooperate with the performance.
【The Imperial Palace of Princess Huan Zhu】: A world dominated by emotional logic. Suggestion: Learn to cry, learn to roar, and learn to express your inner self through stickers. Reason is invalid in this world.
Yue Shi's eyelid twitched as he continued reading.
【Womb-Vegan Pseudo-Human Stitched World】, 【Infinite Loop City】, 【All Tomorrows】, 【The Backrooms】...
Amber City was actually included in the 0-point world directory as well. It had certainly made a name for itself.
Looking closely at the brief introductions, Yue Shi discovered that these worlds were either extremely dangerous—where transmigrators would die immediately upon arrival—or extremely chaotic, with no logic to speak of.
Many freshmen nearby were also reading the 《Graduation Placement Guide》, their expressions quite complex.
A man holding a pen and paper was scribbling something in messy handwriting: "The maximum score is 750, and worlds below 400 are basically all apocalypses. Heavens, I only scored 300-something on my Gaokao back then. How am I supposed to survive this!"
Another person nearby chimed in, "An apocalypse is an apocalypse; at least they're worlds for true gods. Even if you end up in a 0-point world, you should still be able to survive, right?"
Yue Shi flipped to the last page of Chapter Six. At the very bottom of the directory, in tiny font, it said:
【Note: The above worlds are for illustrative purposes only. Actual placement depends on graduation exam scores and current policy. The Multi-World Joint Higher Vocational School reserves the right of final interpretation.】
People nearby were conversing in low voices.
"Which world do you want to go to after graduation?" one asked.
The other gave a bitter smile. "Is that for me to decide? It depends on how many points I score."
Both fell silent simultaneously.
From the placement test alone, one could see that the exam questions set by this school were absolutely bizarre. They had zero confidence in achieving a high score.
They had already transmigrated and cultivated to the level of gods, yet they still couldn't escape the reality that 'scores determine fate.'
...
Yue Shi stayed in the library for a long time.
There were too many books here; an ordinary person wouldn't be able to finish them in several lifetimes.
He heard other examinees discussing how bizarre the placement test questions were. He hadn't taken the placement test himself, so he didn't know exactly how disgusting the questions were.
But judging by their reactions, those questions might have already exceeded the scope of an exam and were purely meant to be difficult.
Therefore, he needed to know the syllabus, where the classes were held, and when the next exam would be.
It wasn't just Yue Shi; other freshmen also wanted to know these things to prepare for the next exam. They didn't just need to pass; they had to pay off their loans as quickly as possible.
To find out these things, they naturally had to keep asking seniors or school staff.
They couldn't get anything out of the doctor, and the staff at the loan window only answered questions related to loans.
So now, many people were looking for the librarian, hoping the librarian might know some inside information regarding exams or studies.
Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be a librarian here.
The crowd searched the area but couldn't find anyone who looked like a librarian.
To make matters worse, they couldn't even find any seniors.
After a senior was cornered and interrogated by freshmen this morning, the seniors had quickly wised up. They had changed their appearances, and it was no longer possible to tell who was a senior and who was a freshman from their looks.
