Chapter 421 · Volume 1

Lord God

After the aftershocks of the explosion subsided, the laboratory was a mess.
Precision instruments had been reduced to scrap metal, the walls were riddled with scorched holes, and thick smoke filled the air.
The researchers in the lab were all dead, their bodies lying haphazardly across the floor. Severed limbs and broken arms were scattered everywhere, and several were missing their brains.
Yue Shi stood amidst the wreckage, his gaze falling toward the center of the laboratory.
The cylindrical chamber had been blasted open; its casing had shattered into several pieces and lay tilted to one side, revealing what was inside.
Several of the chains binding the white light orb had snapped. The broken links lay on the ground, still trembling slightly.
The light orb remained, suspended in its original position, its entire form emitting a soft white glow.
But unlike before, the light had grown weak and flickery, wavering like a candle in the wind.
The remaining intact chains still bound it, but every single one was vibrating. The links groaned against each other, sounding as if they might snap at any moment.
“It’s about to escape.”
“I can feel this world rejecting it. And the thing itself wants to leave.”
The girl's voice came from beside him. She stood next to Yue Shi, folding fan in hand, her glamorous face now tinged with seriousness.
Just as she finished speaking—
Clang!
Another chain snapped, the crisp sound echoing clearly through the ruins.
The white light orb’s tremors intensified, and its flickering frequency grew higher, giving the impression it might vanish at any second.
Yue Shi looked at the orb and raised his hand. An invisible force surged from his palm, wrapping around one of the chains that hadn't broken yet.
At the same time, a greyish-white tentacle extended from behind the girl, coiling around another chain.
The two of them exerted their power simultaneously.
Supernatural power spread along the chains, instantly enveloping the entire light orb.
The orb struggled violently for a moment as if trying to break free, but it was quickly suppressed.
The tremors gradually subsided, and the flickering stabilized, returning to a soft, steady glow.
It was temporarily unable to escape the combined seal of Yue Shi and the girl.
The girl retracted her tentacle and observed the massive white light orb thoughtfully.
“What exactly is this thing?”
Yue Shi shook his head. “I don't know.”
The girl hesitated for a moment before waving her folding fan.
A piece of rubble was swept up from the floor and flew toward the orb.
The stone entered the light orb and passed through the other side without any resistance, hitting the ground and rolling a few times.
Nothing happened.
The white light orb didn't react at all, and the stone remained unchanged, as if it had passed through a mere phantom.
The girl’s brow furrowed slightly; she actually couldn't see through the nature of this object.
The third eye on Yue Shi’s forehead slowly opened, its golden vertical pupil staring at the orb.
Then, his eyebrows also knitted together.
In the vision of his Insight eye, there was nothing at the orb's location.
No information, no energy fluctuations, nothing that could be interpreted—it was as if it truly were just a phantom.
But Yue Shi knew better.
His power and the girl’s tentacles had clearly made contact with the light orb.
Just then, the light orb began to vibrate once more.
It was more violent and urgent than before. The light flickered and wavered, appearing and disappearing as if it were about to vanish for good.
“This world is rejecting it severely. The seal won't hold for long,” the girl said.
Several tentacles reached out from behind her again, but instead of wrapping around the chains, they reached directly for the light orb.
Regardless of what the white light orb was, anything that could cause such a massive commotion was definitely not simple. It might be a heaven-sent opportunity, and she didn't want to miss out.
The tentacles submerged into the light orb.
The girl's expression suddenly froze.
“What is it?” Yue Shi asked.
The girl didn't answer immediately. She maintained her posture, her eyes widening slightly as her expression turned strange—part surprise, part an inexpressible complexity.
After a few seconds, she turned to Yue Shi and said, “This thing... it calls itself the ‘Lord God’.”
“Lord God?” Yue Shi’s brow arched.
“Yes.” The girl nodded, her expression still odd. “It's hard to explain in just a sentence or two. Why don't you try it for yourself?”
Yue Shi didn't move. He looked at the light orb, his eyes flickering. Then, he raised his hand and made a light sweeping motion in the air.
A mirror appeared beside him, and a reflection stepped out from within, transforming into another Yue Shi.
Mirror Clone.
The clone was identical to the original, except it wasn't holding the snow leopard, and its expression was somewhat dull.
Clearly, this clone did not possess an independent consciousness. Because Yue Shi had a very clear sense of self-awareness, he was afraid of a clone backstabbing him, so he added restrictions every time he summoned one.
The clone stepped forward and walked toward the light orb.
The girl's gaze drifted back and forth between the clone and the original, a faint, hidden scrutiny flashing in her eyes.
Yue Shi noticed it but didn't care.
The clone had already reached the front of the light orb. He reached out his hand and plunged it into the white light.
In the next second, a cold, mechanical voice rang in the clone's ear, simultaneously transmitting to the original.
“Lord God System binding in progress...”
“Binding failed.”
“An unknown error has occurred.”
“Beep, beep, beep... 0x800705b4, 0x0000007E...”
After the error sounds rang out several times, a massive cluster of information suddenly exploded before Yue Shi’s eyes.
The information was extremely chaotic, like countless glowing rivers frantically surging into his field of vision.
Various texts, numbers, images, and symbols were intertwined and tangled, colliding haphazardly.
Yue Shi’s brow furrowed as he searched for anything of value within the torrent of information.
The fragmented information gradually pieced together into a complete outline.
This white light orb did indeed refer to itself as the ‘Lord God’.
It was unclear which divine system this Lord God belonged to.
The white light orb in the laboratory was not the Lord God’s true body. According to the descriptions in the information fragments, this was merely one of the Lord God’s clients, something akin to a clone.
The true ‘Lord God’ was a mysterious existence located in an unknown space. Yue Shi only managed to decipher some of its titles and honorific names.
【The Infinite Eye that Eternally Hovers Over ██】
【Communicator of the Myriad Realms ████████】
【Shaper of the Illusory ██, Omnipotent Ruler of ████████】
The authority of the Lord God clone before him was simple and direct: it could exchange anything for the user.
Anything one desired was possible. One could obtain bloodlines and races, various supernatural powers, curios and props, and even items that existed only in fantasy.
In theory, as long as one had enough reward points, one could obtain everything they wanted from the Lord God.
Yue Shi remained skeptical of this.
Would there really be such a thing as a free lunch in this world? The probability of such a pie falling right into one's mouth was even lower.
He didn't rush to a conclusion but instead had the clone continue exploring the interior of the light orb.
Within the chaotic information fragments, he found the Lord God’s exchange function.
The items on the exchange list looked very much like they were destined for Yue Shi...
He tried to exchange for a specific item: the Death Note.
In the next second, the light orb provided a response:
【Death Note, four-star wonder. Exchange cost: 3,000 points. Current user reward points: 0. Unable to exchange.】
