“I am the person in charge of handling this supernatural incident, Special Investigator Zhu Qunqing from the Investigation Bureau.”
Zhu Qunqing spoke with an unfriendly tone. He wore a black leather jacket, had slightly narrow shoulders, and his thick eyebrows were faintly furrowed. His heavy lips drooped downward as his gaze locked onto Yue Shi, scrutinizing him inch by inch.
For whatever reason, within a few breaths, a flicker of displeasure surfaced on his somewhat arrogant face. He tried to hide it carefully, but a trace of it still leaked out inadvertently.
Yue Shi felt a wave of discomfort. Even through his sunglasses, he could feel Zhu Qunqing’s unrestrained stare. He really wanted to gouge those eyes out.
Nearby, Zhong Mo and Fang Jianxin followed Zhu Qunqing’s earlier example, merely knocking the crazed people unconscious.
As for whether the fallen people were truly unconscious or had been struck dead, they didn’t particularly care.
Zhong Mo looked a bit disheveled as he asked Zhu Qunqing, “Since the Bureau put you in charge of this, do you know why the situation in the school suddenly deteriorated to this extent?”
Zhu Qunqing turned his gaze to Zhong Mo, similarly scrutinizing him from head to toe. His expression darkened further for some unknown reason as he replied vaguely, “I’m not clear on the cause either.”
“Then what should we do now? Where are the Bureau’s reinforcements? If we delay any longer, everyone will be dead!” Fang Jianxin said irritably. She had been protecting the unconscious Bai Qingyu the entire way and was already panting from exhaustion.
“Rest assured, support will arrive soon.” Zhu Qunqing’s gaze drifted between Fang Jianxin and Bai Qingyu, his lips curling into an involuntary smile.
Fang Jianxin suddenly shuddered. The feeling of being peered at and stared down made her extremely uncomfortable. Especially when she saw Zhu Qunqing with his arm half-wrapped around a beautiful female student, refusing to let go, she felt a wave of revulsion.
She had originally thought that people from the Investigation Bureau would be reliable, but now she felt the man exuded a greasy, superficial sleaziness that made him entirely untrustworthy.
As they spoke, more crazed people surrounded them, accompanied by a never-ending stream of venomous bees.
Yue Shi continued to handle the situation at his original pace, while Zhong Mo and Fang Jianxin looked increasingly miserable.
Zhu Qunqing was the most relaxed person present, his face projecting an obvious air of confidence.
He slowly turned his neck to scan the surroundings. Suddenly, the venomous bees in the air seemed to hit a wall of high-potency insecticide, falling in droves and losing their vitality like withered leaves.
The scene was striking. Yue Shi and the other two all looked at him at once, curious about what his ability actually was.
Zhu Qunqing’s lips curled slightly, seemingly enjoying being the center of attention. Just as he was about to say something, a sudden change occurred!
The girl he was half-holding in his arms suddenly convulsed. Her flesh and skin bulged and writhed, and in the blink of an eye, she transformed into a half-human, half-bee monster, launching a merciless and violent attack.
The strike was aimed directly at the vulnerable blood vessels in his neck. It was so fast that Zhu Qunqing barely had time to react. Although he instinctively twisted his body to dodge at the first moment, the distance between them was too close, and he couldn't completely avoid it.
The sharp, mutated mandibles sank deep into Zhu Qunqing’s shoulder. The intense pain made him howl. The monster used both its hands and feet to scramble onto him, and despite his desperate struggling, he couldn't shake it off.
“Bang!”
A gunshot rang out.
A bullet pierced through the monster’s head.
The monster’s movements stopped instantly, and its body crashed to the ground. Blood splattered everywhere, coating Zhu Qunqing’s face.
Several Investigation Bureau vehicles drove onto the campus. Ling Xun sat in the passenger seat of one, leaning out the window with his gun drawn, his eyes as sharp as a hawk’s.
The sounds of gunfire continued in rapid succession. Each bullet accurately struck the nearby Bee Women, who collapsed and died one after another. Orange-yellow fluid, mixed with streaks of bright red blood, gathered together and flowed like a small stream.
Support had finally arrived, but the school was already a field of corpses.
A group of people in hazmat suits stepped out of the vehicles, efficiently dividing their tasks: killing venomous bees, clearing supernatural corpses, and rescuing survivors.
Ling Xun, leading the group, walked quickly over to Zhu Qunqing. He took a brief look at the man’s injury and asked with a frown, “Are you okay? Why did the situation here get so bad so suddenly?”
Zhu Qunqing’s face was deathly pale, seemingly too pained to speak.
Following behind Ling Xun was a young woman with a high ponytail—Wei Siqi, whom Yue Shi had met a few times before.
The two had originally stepped out of the car together, only half a step apart. But when Ling Xun walked toward Zhu Qunqing, Wei Siqi immediately turned away with an expressionless face and walked toward the others.
Wei Siqi questioned Yue Shi’s group, but they couldn't provide many useful clues. Tulip Security Company had only come to investigate today; the turn of events had been too abrupt.
Zhong Mo glanced at the corpses littering the ground and asked tentatively, “Ordinary firearms can’t kill the supernatural, yet these Bee Women were taken down by bullets. Has the Bureau developed a new type of weapon?”
Wei Siqi shook her head and gestured with her chin toward Ling Xun. “It’s his supernatural power. He can give bullets special effects.”
Ling Xun’s ability was Weapon Enchantment. Wei Siqi didn't want to leak information about her colleague to outsiders, but she had to clarify that the Bureau didn't have new weapons to avoid unnecessary rumors or trouble.
It had been a long time since such a serious supernatural incident had broken out in Amber City, and Wei Siqi was deeply worried.
Yue Shi closed his eyes to check his gains.
On the living tentacles of the black stone tablet, the golden eye representing the fifth ability was now completely open. The progress on the sixth eye was already halfway finished.
Just then, a member of the Investigation Bureau in the distance suddenly shouted in panic, “Everyone, watch out! The detected supernatural aura fluctuations are rapidly intensifying!”
Almost as soon as the words left his mouth, a crowd of people slowly emerged from the teaching buildings, the sports center, the cafeteria, and other areas.
Their faces were hideous and their expressions frantic. As soon as they appeared, they sprinted toward Yue Shi and the others like a swarm of zombies released from their cages.
“What is happening?” Wei Siqi’s voice was urgent as she looked at the people who resembled the walking dead.
These people were clearly all students from the campus!
“They’ve likely been hit by supernatural contamination, temporarily losing their reason and falling under the Bee Women’s control,” Zhong Mo said.
Hearing this, Wei Siqi’s gaze turned cold instantly. “They’re actually using ordinary people!”
It seemed the Bee Women were not only malicious but also had a bit of cunning. As an official transcendent of the Investigation Bureau, Wei Siqi could not blatantly or publicly strike down these ordinary people who might still be saved.
Supported by Ling Xun, Zhu Qunqing managed to stand steady and spoke up to emphasize once more, “Those crazed people are all lightly contaminated individuals. There is a high chance they can recover. You absolutely cannot harm them.”
“So? How are we supposed to deal with the situation in front of us?” Wei Siqi asked, her patience wearing thin.
Zhu Qunqing was momentarily speechless.
Wei Siqi wore an expression that said “just as I thought.” She knew Zhu Qunqing would be like this—always fond of telling others “that’s wrong” or “you can’t do that,” but when actually asked for advice on how to handle something, he could never provide anything useful. It was as if he only existed to posture and make his presence known.
