Chapter 316 · Volume 1

Mirror

The Tree of Truth had left.
Chased away by Yue Shi.
The two of them had almost nothing in common; staying together only led to sarcastic and passive-aggressive bickering.
The words the Tree of Truth wanted to say could not be spoken aloud.
However, while Yue Shi wasn't exactly a genius, he wasn't a fool either.
Combining the Tree of Truth's previous remarks, several conjectures formed in Yue Shi's mind.
Every single one of them was absurd, wildly imaginative, and utterly terrible.
But Yue Shi never let himself be consumed by internal conflict.
Matters he couldn't resolve for the moment and questions he couldn't figure out were simply pushed to the back of his mind.
He would never allow his emotions to be continuously disturbed.
Yue Shi turned and returned to his own sub-dimension.
As soon as he entered the sub-dimension, the Ghost floated over, his face clouded with gloom.
“Oh my, the great master actually remembers his way home~”
He sounded like a bullied little wife suffering from the silent treatment, likely having read some trashy novels.
Yue Shi didn't fall for it and ignored him completely.
The Ghost continued his solitary lament nearby.
“We were once such close companions; you couldn't do anything without my help.”
“Now I've fallen behind, unable to keep up with your footsteps, and can only be mothballed by you.”
Yue Shi replied indifferently, “If you know you've fallen behind, then stop talking nonsense. You're just being sidelined; accept reality already.”
“Yap any more, and I might just phase you out entirely.”
Hearing this, the Ghost retreated into the sofa with a wounded expression.
So heartbreaking.
After being together for so long, Yue Shi didn't have a shred of affection for him.
He wasn't even willing to pretend.
The Ghost had long been aware of this fact, yet when it was laid bare before him, he still felt hurt.
Yue Shi also curled up on the sofa, clearing his mind and closing his eyes to rest.
He was a bit tired.
The Ghost leaned in cautiously and said, “Strange things have been happening in this space while you were away.”
Yue Shi opened his eyes impatiently. “What things?”
The Ghost turned serious. “Two things.”
“First, that person you locked up recently did something that caused quite a stir.”
“The one I locked up recently?” Yue Shi thought for a moment.
Oh, right, that guy.
The player from the Supernatural Game Show who had merged seventeen mirror-type abilities.
“He’s not even in the same space as you. How did you hear him making a commotion?” Yue Shi asked back.
“How should I know?” The Ghost shrugged.
“Anyway, he caused a stir. I could feel it even across the dimensions.”
Yue Shi stood up and headed to the independent space used to imprison that player.
The moment he stepped inside, Yue Shi froze in place.
He saw countless versions of himself!
In every direction—up, down, left, and right—there were mirror reflections of himself!
It was like walking into a mirror maze.
The player had completely vanished.
“Out-of-control?”
Yue Shi surveyed his surroundings without a hint of panic.
He had created this space; it was under his control.
No matter how many mirrors there were, they weren't an issue. As long as they didn't escape the space, they remained in the palm of his hand.
These mirrors seemed to possess a kind of instinctive consciousness, constantly extending in a certain direction as if searching for something.
Even after filling the entire space, they didn't stop, continuously generating new mirrors in that position to cover the old ones.
Yue Shi walked toward that spot but found nothing unusual.
But these mirrors couldn't be acting this way for no reason.
So, why exactly?
After a moment of thought, Yue Shi's eyes lit up.
It was the space next door!
The adjacent space was where Huang Fengjing was temporarily residing.
Huang Fengjing had gone insane back in Orphan's Grudge and had yet to recover; his mind was still unstable.
Could these mirrors be looking for Huang Fengjing?
His ability was damage reflection. Could that also be a part of the Mirror Authority?
The more Yue Shi thought about it, the more sense it made. Without any hesitation, he placed Huang Fengjing into the mirror maze.
Huang Fengjing's mental state was already poor, and seeing countless reflections of himself suddenly acted as a trigger. He began to scream and shout.
At the same time, the mirrors stopped extending in one direction and instead converged toward Huang Fengjing.
However, no further strange transformations occurred after that.
Mirrors constantly covered and vanished around Huang Fengjing, while Huang Fengjing continued to scream incessantly.
There were no signs of the two sides merging or devouring each other.
There was only simple mutual attraction.
Yue Shi fell into thought.
In the Supernatural Game Show, those players could devour each other's abilities simply by killing one another.
But that environment was provided by the game instance; they could only devour each other under those unique conditions.
In the real world or in Yue Shi's sub-dimension, the puzzle pieces of a shattered Authority seemingly could not merge naturally.
“Where is the problem?”
Yue Shi thought of magnets.
When a magnet is snapped, the fractured ends become like poles.
Even if the surfaces fit perfectly, they won't stick back together.
He could probably get the right answer by asking the all-knowing Tree of Truth.
But Yue Shi always suspected that the Tree of Truth would dig a hole for him.
After some thought, Yue Shi decided to temporarily keep Huang Fengjing and those mirrors in the same place.
He would check back on their changes after some time.
Returning to his living quarters, he sat back on the sofa and asked the Ghost:
“What was the second thing?”
The Ghost said, “It’s your old phone.”
“Over the past few days, your old phone has received many calls and texts, all from the same number.”
“Old phone? Which old phone?” Yue Shi was puzzled.
“The one you used back in Amber City. You haven't used it since you left.”
Yue Shi rubbed his temples. “I don't have any friends. Who would be so bored as to call a fugitive who once massacred a city?”
“It’s someone named Bai Wanyang.”
