Upon seeing the information regarding Su Jinglu’s supernatural abilities, Yue Shi’s heart sank.
Spider Sense—the ability to perceive malice and killing intent!
Back at the door, when he first learned her surname was 'Su,' the malice that had surged from the depths of his heart was incredibly intense.
There was no way Su Jinglu hadn't noticed it.
Yet, not only did she not call him out, but after confirming he was unaffected, she had readily accepted his offer to help.
This abnormal behavior was like a sharp thorn pricking Yue Shi’s sensitive nerves.
His expression shifted for a moment, and darkness swirled in his eyes. He tried to forcefully suppress the reflexive malice deep within his soul.
But he couldn't do it.
He really couldn't!
Malice was his very motivation for survival.
Every moment of every day, he was thinking of how to harm people, how to screw them over, and how to kill them.
Even with no prior grudge, he couldn't stand to see others doing well.
And toward a member of a clan he suspected of being an enemy, his malice was doubled.
Su Jinglu seemed to remain oblivious. She skillfully manipulated her spider silk to clear the final blocked section of the stairwell and pushed open the door leading to the rooftop.
Screeeak.
The door swung open, and a biting cold wind carrying snowflakes rushed in.
Unlike the noisy chaos of the hallways below, the rooftop was eerily silent.
The small animals that had been desperately fleeing upward earlier were now quiet. They no longer ran in panic, instead huddling in groups of three to five near the rooftop water tank or the ventilation ducts.
As Yue Shi and Su Jinglu stepped onto the rooftop, the wind and snow instantly covered them.
Their gazes simultaneously locked onto a figure at the edge of the roof.
It was a person of indistinguishable gender, wearing thin black clothing. Their short hair was messy in the wind, but a begonia-shaped hairpin nestled in their hair was exceptionally clear.
A section of the rooftop’s safety railing had been violently destroyed. The person sat right on the edge of the break, legs dangling in the air. Their face was expressionless until they heard footsteps and turned around.
“Who are you?” Their voice, like their appearance, was a gender-neutral tone that was hard to place, filled with defensiveness and caution.
Yue Shi didn't speak. He could clearly feel an invisible curse or contamination constantly battering his defenses.
The person before them was likely the source of this supernatural incident.
Yue Shi quickly sized them up. They had a plain, unremarkable face that would be impossible to pick out in a crowd. They were covered in snow, and the melting slush soaked through their clothes, making them look even thinner and more fragile.
Su Jinglu stepped forward and identified herself. “I am an investigator from the Chijing City Investigation Bureau.”
“Bureau people?” A twisted smile squeezed onto the person's face. “I suggest you don't come any closer, or don't blame me for being impolite.”
The threat sounded weak, and Su Jinglu clearly wasn't buying it. Her fingers twitched slightly as spider silk began to form at her fingertips, ready to strike.
Just then, the person reached up, plucked the begonia hairpin from their hair, and said, “My lady, you wouldn't want everyone in the surrounding streets to suddenly fall into terrible misfortune, would you?”
Their gaze sharpened. “I guarantee that the moment you make a move, everyone within a thousand-meter radius will suffer.”
Su Jinglu remained unmoved until the person added, “My methods aren't just for men; they work on women just as well.”
Su Jinglu’s expression changed, and she immediately stopped her attack. Threatening her with others had limited effect, but if the threat could indiscriminately affect her as well, that was a different story.
Many people were still converging on the hotel downstairs. The longer this dragged on, the worse the situation would become.
“Fine, I won't come closer,” Su Jinglu said, softening her tone in an attempt to communicate.
“What exactly are you trying to do? What is your goal? Perhaps we can talk.”
“Why should I tell you?” The person tilted their head, looking at her with pure hostility.
“Tell me, and maybe I can help you,” Su Jinglu’s voice was exceptionally clear amidst the wind and snow. Her clothes were also soaked by the snow, but she didn't care, her eyes fixed firmly on the humanoid supernatural creature.
Her words seemed to strike a chord. The figure fell silent for a few seconds before speaking hoarsely, “Fine. You want to help me? Then help me find him first.”
“Who is he? What is his name? Can you describe his appearance?” Su Jinglu pressed.
This question, however, was like lighting a powder keg.
The person’s expression instantly became violent and distorted. The small animals that had been quiet on the rooftop also became agitated, letting out threatening hisses and baring their teeth at Yue Shi and Su Jinglu.
At the same time, Yue Shi’s Insight vision had already picked up the person’s ability information.
【Beast Tamer: Greatly enhances affinity with mammals, allowing for deep communication and the ability to influence them to follow commands.】
Yue Shi’s mind raced. This ability could control the small animals, but it didn't explain why the men downstairs had gone mad.
Then, he looked at the Beast Tamer’s second ability.
【Super Male: Permanently in a state of low sanity and high aggression. Extremely unstable emotions, prone to anger and impulsiveness, with a strong sense of territoriality and a desire for dominance. Basic strength, speed, endurance, and recovery are significantly enhanced. Can actively set the sanity limit to zero to enter the ‘Feral End’ state, granting an explosive increase in physical strength and causing the user to indiscriminately attack all living things.】
Yue Shi mused to himself that 【Super Male】 was indeed an ability that would drive one mad, but this ability only affected the user. It still didn't explain how the others had lost their minds.
The key to the problem lay in that hairpin!
His Insight vision focused on the begonia hairpin gripped tightly in the person’s hand.
Upon seeing it, Yue Shi’s expression became extremely peculiar.
He finally understood why the men downstairs were acting so crazy. He also understood why Su Jinglu had stopped immediately upon hearing “works on women just as well.”
The ability of this hairpin was as absurd as it was malicious.
“Aaaah!!”
Just then, the Beast Tamer sitting on the edge of the roof seemed to be completely triggered by Su Jinglu’s question about who “he” was. They threw their head back and let out a beast-like howl toward the sky, filled with resentment and indignation.
“Why won't he accept me?!” Their voice was hoarse, carrying through the wind and snow.
Then, as if using every ounce of their strength to scream out the greatest injustice in the world, they roared so loudly the snowflakes danced in the air:
“Can't there be love between three people?!!”
Su Jinglu, who had been preparing to continue her attempt at peaceful communication, looked as if she had been struck by lightning. She froze on the spot, the professional fake smile on her face shattering piece by piece, leaving only pure shock and disbelief.
Did she... just hear something that required her to wash her ears?!
As the Beast Tamer’s emotions spiraled out of control, all the small animals on the rooftop became restless, their aggressiveness surging. Their hisses converged into a single wave as they surrounded Yue Shi and Su Jinglu.
The wind and snow grew even more violent.
