The Clown didn't hesitate for a second, diving headfirst into the veil.
Yue Shi watched his acrobatic performance with cold eyes.
The next second—
Thud!
The Clown hit an invisible, elastic wall and was “bounced” back even faster, landing miserably in the back seat, his hair even messier than before.
“How is this possible?!” His voice cracked as he tried again, refusing to believe it.
However, the result was the same.
Spatial transfer had failed!
The 【Kaleidoscope Veil】 he used for escaping had been silenced. The Clown's expression was incredibly ugly, but he adjusted his emotions quickly. Without wasting a single second, he frantically pulled a pen from the inner pocket of his evening jacket.
It looked like an extremely ordinary plastic-shelled ballpoint pen, yet the Clown held it gently as if it were a treasure, writing on the seat beside him.
He had just written a few words...
“Thump! Thump! Thump!”
A heavy, slow knocking sound came from the car window, carrying a heart-palpitating pressure.
The Clown's movements froze. His hand holding the pen trembled, and he swallowed hard. A “gulp” sound came from his throat, clear and piercing in the deathly silent car.
A rugged, hideous face was pressed tight against the glass, more terrifying than anything in a horror movie.
A dirty white coat, hair as messy as a bird's nest, and those eyes filled with endless rage were locked onto the Clown.
Yue Shi quietly activated his defense mode and watched the show.
The self-proclaimed fun-seeker was now starring in his own spectacle.
Truly a great actor.
“Crack—Shatter!!”
The director didn't give him any time to react. He clenched his hand into a fist and easily smashed the car window.
Shards of glass sprayed everywhere.
His bloodshot eyes were almost pressed against the Clown's face. His voice was cold, sharper than the freezing winds of an abyss, as he spat out each word: “Little thief, you stole my keys and my pen. Where do you think you're going?”
The Clown broke into a cold sweat, but miraculously, the exaggerated makeup on his face didn't smudge or run. He defended himself righteously: “How many times do I have to tell you? I didn't take the keys! Why do you keep chasing me?”
“You think I'll believe your lies?” the director's voice suddenly rose.
“High-speed movement is forbidden here; spatial displacement is forbidden! Let's see what other tricks you can pull!”
“Heh, hehe...” The Clown gave a dry, fake laugh. While the director was roaring, his hand holding the pen moved at an incredible speed to finish the last stroke on the seat.
“Hum—!!”
It was as if some restraint had been suddenly broken.
The engine of the vehicle, which had been moving at a snail's pace, erupted with a beastly roar. The tires rubbed frantically against the ground, and the entire car lunged forward like a wild horse that had been lashed, accelerating instantly.
The inertia caused everyone in the car to jerk back violently. The director's large face was immediately left far behind, disappearing into the dust kicked up in their wake.
Yet the Clown didn't dare relax his guard for a moment. He continued to write incessantly on every available surface in the car.
Yue Shi asked him, “Is that ballpoint pen what you stole from the director?”
The Clown's tone was unfriendly. “How can you call it ‘stealing’? It's just a temporary loan. Mind your own business, ‘artist’ matters don't concern you. And... stop just watching the play! If the director catches up, I guarantee you won't have a good time either!”
Yue Shi, however, remained as calm as a monk. “Tell me exactly what you did first, and then I'll consider whether to help you.”
The Clown rolled his eyes. Without stopping his movements, he gripped the ballpoint pen and quickly wrote the same line on the back of the seat, the door interior, and even the ceiling—【This vehicle can travel normally】.
Strangely, however, the ink of the words he had just written seemed to be wiped away by an invisible eraser, fading rapidly at a visible rate until it disappeared!
This forced him to repeat the writing constantly, as if in a race.
Seeing this, Yue Shi understood. “So this pen also has the ability to establish rules? Is it countering the director's rules? Heh, as I thought, that messy setup in the cold storage was your handiwork.”
“Yes, I did everything! But so what?” The Clown didn't even look up, the tip of his pen almost striking sparks against the car roof.
“Looking at your cold expression, you don't seem like someone who cares much about your teammates. What? Want to avenge them now? Go ahead and try~”
Yue Shi ignored his mockery and analyzed calmly, “You didn't come to Amber City just for fun. You were clearly being hunted by the director and fled here.”
“No, no, no.” The Clown remained stubborn, his writing speed increasing.
“Being hunted and seeking fun aren't mutually exclusive; they can happen at the same time. I took the director's pen, and he's been chasing me like a madman. It just so happened that Boss Pi sent out a wide invitation to cause trouble in this city. By ‘inviting’ the director of Qingshan Sanatorium here, I've introduced a brand-new variable to add some color to this upcoming feast of chaos~”
“Really? I don't believe you,” Yue Shi said sarcastically.
“You talk a big game, but I think you simply had no way to deal with the director. So, you intentionally lured him into the muddy waters of Amber City to make things even more chaotic. Ideally, he'd be tied down here, allowing you to fish in troubled waters and make your escape.”
The Clown's hand paused for a split second. He didn't argue further, but simply gritted his teeth and more frantically replenished the words that were constantly vanishing.
Silence was an admission.
He had indeed stolen the director's pen and been pursued relentlessly. Upon hearing that Boss Pi was going to stir up trouble in Amber City, he had dived in, temporarily collaborating with Boss Pi in an attempt to divert the trouble elsewhere.
He just never expected that the trap set in the cold storage would only catch a few pieces of cannon fodder, or that the director would catch up so quickly.
At one point, the ballpoint pen in the Clown's hand stalled. The tip dragged across the seat, but it left no ink behind.
The Clown's face changed drastically. He quickly scribbled a few more times against the car wall.
There was only the faint sound of scratching.
The pen had run out of ink.
“No—!” The Clown was both shocked and enraged, nearly crushing the pen.
He had gone through immense hardship to steal this pen from the director's pocket, and before he could even use it for what he truly intended, he had exhausted his “ammunition” on the road while fleeing?
This was a total loss; he had lost everything!
Without the continuous writing of the ballpoint pen to counter it, the previously maintained rule of 【This vehicle can travel normally】 dissipated rapidly.
The director's rule, 【High-speed movement is forbidden here】, took effect once again.
The speeding vehicle was suddenly seized as if by a giant invisible hand, its speed instantly plummeting to a desperate crawl.
Within a few breaths, the tall figure in the dirty white coat caught up unhurriedly.
The rage on his face had vanished, replaced by a playful expression. Like a cat playing with a mouse, he was gradually cornering his prey into a dead end with no escape.
