"Is the director really that strong?" Bai Wanyang looked shocked.
Ling Xun nodded. "Of course."
"How strong? I've never seen her in action," Bai Wanyang prodded. The director was too mysterious; he had only seen her a few times.
"Haha, they say the Bureau headquarters is full of experts, but they can't find anyone stronger than Director Tang. At most, they're on par. She's at the absolute pinnacle of the entire transcendent field." Ling Xun spoke with a sense of pride, sounding a bit like he was bragging.
"Wow, really?" Bai Wanyang clearly didn't quite believe it, but he still played along with an admiring expression before turning puzzled. "Why would someone as powerful as Director Tang serve in Amber City?"
Amber City was just a medium-sized city in a remote location with relatively scarce resources and close to a forbidden zone. It really wasn't a great place.
"How would I know? Maybe the director has her own reasons." A hint of embarrassment flickered on Ling Xun's face.
"Since the director is so powerful, let's just ask her to deal with 【The Reveler】 directly and get it over with before the damage spreads," Bai Wanyang suggested.
"You'd bother the director with something this small? Do you guys just come to work to coast?" Ling Xun teased with a laugh.
Then, he brought the conversation back on track. "Alright, back to business. How do we deal with the passing 【The Reveler】?"
"How about long-range attacks?" Wei Siqi proposed. "Using enchanted bullets or having Little Bai fire an Energy Cannon from a distance should be able to hit him."
Ling Xun frowned slightly. "It's possible, but I'm afraid we might not kill 【The Reveler】 outright and instead provoke him, making things worse. Plus, there are many mad transcendents around him who will protect him. Long-range attacks would likely be blocked by them."
Yue Shi thought for a moment and asked, "Where is 【The Reveler】 now? How far from Amber City?"
Ling Xun said, "The straight-line distance between the Reveler and Amber City should be about 150 kilometers."
"That distance is enough." Yue Shi's long fingers tapped the table lightly. "I think we can learn from the Chijing City Investigation Bureau. Before 【The Reveler】 reaches Amber City, we should expel him and make him head in another direction."
"Is that... right?" Bai Wanyang hesitated.
Yue Shi immediately explained, "Don't misunderstand. I'm not trying to drive 【The Reveler】 toward another city. I intend to lure him into changing his route, leading him completely away from civilization. Ideally, we can lead him into a supernatural domain or even a forbidden zone, letting the anomalies and 【The Reveler】 fight each other."
Ling Xun's eyes lit up. "That's a good idea. But... how do we change his route?"
"How did the Chijing City Investigation Bureau drive him away? We can use the same method," Wei Siqi said.
"I'm not sure about that. I'll go find out right away." After saying that, Ling Xun hurried out of the office.
Bai Wanyang leaned closer to Yue Shi and whispered, "A single 「Healing Potion」 costs 10 million. You'd have to own a gold mine to afford that, right?"
"That price might just be what some people spend on a single meal," Yue Shi said calmly, without looking up.
"Why is the Bureau headquarters charging so much? Why don't they just go out and rob people instead? Ordinary transcendents can't afford it at all!" Bai Wanyang did a quick mental calculation of his salary and bonuses, and his expression gradually darkened... He was really poor.
"Don't overthink it. This stuff wasn't meant for low-level transcendents anyway. In a few years, when the 「Healing Potion」 is upgraded and the higher-ups are using the latest version, the stock of the obsolete old version will naturally drop in price and filter down." Yue Shi's words were blunt and painful.
Bai Wanyang suddenly became a bit dejected, slumping into his chair. After a while, he spoke again, "Brother, do you know any way to make quick money?"
Of course, it would be to go out and rob someone... The words almost slipped out of Yue Shi's mouth, but they turned into a question instead. "Are you short on money?"
Bai Wanyang nodded. "When the Bee Woman incident broke out at my school, many people died. Some of my surviving classmates were so traumatized they developed severe mental illnesses, and their families can't afford the treatment."
"So you took it upon yourself to shoulder that responsibility?" Yue Shi was genuinely shocked. He couldn't understand it.
Bai Wanyang took it as a matter of course. "Yeah, they're my good friends. We helped each other through the hard times back then. No one gave up on anyone, and that's the only reason we managed to survive until my supernatural power awakened. Otherwise, we would have all died at the hands of the Bee Woman long ago."
Yue Shi was speechless. Truly a rare good person. It seemed like there was a soul shining brightly inside this young man.
"Log into the 「Supernatural Forum」 and see if there are any bounty missions or similar posts. You should be able to make some extra income quickly," Yue Shi suggested.
Bai Wanyang instantly perked up. "Why didn't I think of that! If you hadn't mentioned it, I would have forgotten all about that forum."
He immediately pulled out his phone, logged into the forum, entered the bounty section, and began looking through the posts.
Just then, Ling Xun returned with news. "I've asked. The Chijing City Investigation Bureau has a transcendent whose body can emit a peculiar fragrance. Supernatural creatures or out-of-control transcendents are attracted to this scent. Unfortunately, while luring 【The Reveler】 away from Chijing City, this person was severely injured and is currently hospitalized."
The plan was blocked, and the atmosphere in the office grew heavy.
"Is there no other way to influence 【The Reveler】's path?" Wei Siqi asked.
Ling Xun shook his head. "Conventional methods are useless. Even if there is a way, it would involve extreme risk. Now, we can only hope that 【The Reveler】 continues along his original route and smoothly bypasses the outskirts of the city."
Then, Ling Xun briefly explained the assignments for this emergency mission—strengthening monitoring, analyzing data from monitoring points, evacuating residents on potential routes in advance, setting up cordons to prevent people from wandering in, and contacting civilian organizations and lone wolf transcendents to see if anyone could counter the Reveler...
The Special Operations Section was rarely this busy. Yue Shi sat in front of a monitor, pulling up blurred images sent back by satellites and drones. A faint golden vertical mark shimmered beneath his hair as 【Insight】 ran continuously, attempting to analyze the chaotic stream of information surrounding the Reveler's group.
Regrettably, through a screen, 【Insight】 could only see the most basic image information presented on the display. To obtain more intelligence data, he would likely need to be on-site to observe in person.
Yue Shi couldn't be bothered to do such a thing. He wasn't some city guardian brimming with a sense of responsibility. Being selfish and self-serving was his true nature. Instead of doing that, he'd rather slack off and look for clues about his enemies.
