“Qiming?”
The Spirit Rock Turtle blinked its eyes, repeating its name to itself a few times.
It lay quietly in Jiang Lu's hand. After a long moment, it nodded, then retracted its head and limbs back into its shell. Snuggling comfortably into her palm, it closed its eyes and fell fast asleep, looking incredibly lazy.
Looking at its sleepy, soft appearance, Jiang Lu shook her head helplessly, a faint smile playing on her lips.
Composing herself, she tapped her toes lightly. Her leaf-shaped flying magic tool appeared beneath her feet, and she glided smoothly with the wind, heading steadily toward the Liuyun Sect.
“Out of the way!”
“Hurry, get out of the way!”
Two urgent, sharp shouts suddenly echoed from afar. The sound was torn to pieces by the howling wind, muffled and indistinct, so Jiang Lu did not notice them at first.
In the next instant!
A rapid green afterimage rushed out from the mountain path to her side, colliding directly with her.
Bang!
Jiang Lu's body swayed. Caught completely off guard, she was knocked off her flying tool and tumbled through the air, landing together with the newcomer onto the soft grass of the forest floor.
“Hiss—”
Her back went slightly numb, and Jiang Lu let out a soft gasp.
The few spirit beasts that had been clinging to her side were also shaken off, their tiny bodies rolling across the ground several times.
Hurriedly, Jiang Lu stuffed them back into her pouch.
Only after doing this did she raise her eyes to look at the green-clad figure in front of her.
She walked over slowly. Once she got a clear look at the contours of his face, a flash of surprise instantly filled her eyes, and she blurted out:
“Senior Brother Bai?”
The Senior Brother Bai before her was a direct disciple of the Grand Elder of the Liuyun Sect. He possessed profound cultivation and was highly renowned; in terms of strength and talent, he was second only to Eldest Senior Sister.
When she had first entered the Liuyun Sect alongside Eldest Senior Sister, she had seen him once from a distance, which was why she remembered him.
“Ouch.”
He groaned first, hastily reaching out to check his own meridians and bones. After confirming he was uninjured, he let out a quiet sigh of relief before turning his gaze toward Jiang Lu.
He slowly raised his eyes, his gaze landing on the young girl standing before him.
She had delicate features and an ethereal aura. She looked somewhat familiar, yet he could not recall where he had met her.
However, since she had called him Senior Brother, she was undoubtedly a junior sister from his sect.
She looked familiar, but he had never actually met her.
“Junior Sister?”
Seeing the unfamiliarity in his eyes, Jiang Lu immediately introduced herself.
“Senior Brother Bai, my name is Jiang Ye. I am a disciple of Yuhua Peak.”
Hearing this, Senior Brother Bai realized who she was. So this was the little disciple Eldest Senior Sister had brought back. Rumor had it that Senior Sister Fu was extremely pleased with her.
But why was she here all by herself?
However, now was not the time for small talk. His expression turned serious. Putting his thoughts aside, he suddenly raised his slender hand, and a flash of spiritual energy rippled from his fingertips.
A spiritual boat floating in midair not far away was drawn by his spiritual energy. It immediately turned around and drifted steadily toward the two of them.
“Junior Sister Jiang, let's go, go, go!”
Sensing the rapidly approaching aura, he grabbed Jiang Lu and pulled her onto the spiritual boat.
Before Jiang Lu could process what was happening, she realized the spiritual boat had already flown a considerable distance.
Just as she was about to ask, she saw the figure rapidly pursuing them from behind, and her mind went blank.
“Se... Senior Brother Bai, did you provoke that thing?”
Jiang Lu stammered slightly, her eyes widening as she stared at the figure that was about to catch up to them.
It was a Tier Four vulture beast.
Vulture beasts preferred meat. They often suffocated demon beasts or spirit beasts to death, waiting for the meat to rot before consuming it.
If they fell into its clutches, she shuddered to think of the horrific death that awaited them.
“Yes...”
Senior Brother Bai gritted his teeth, and the spiritual boat accelerated once more.
Waaaah...
If she had known earlier, she would never have run off with Senior Brother Bai!
So this was what they meant by “a disaster falling from the sky”!
“Junior Sister, here! Throw these at it!”
Finding a brief opening, Senior Brother Bai handed Jiang Lu a storage bag.
Jiang Lu opened it and saw a massive pile of offensive magic tools!
“Throw them!”
Senior Brother Bai winked at Jiang Lu.
As Jiang Lu pulled the magic tools out of the storage bag, her lips twitched slightly. Wasn't this a bit of an overkill?
“Roar!”
The demon beast behind them flapped its wings, its face twisted in ferocity.
The roar made the hairs on Jiang Lu's arms stand on end. On second thought, maybe it wasn't overkill after all...
With a flash of spiritual energy in her hands, she controlled the magic tools, hurling them backward one after another. The tools collided with the demon beast, unleashing a series of thunderous explosions.
Tsk, it actually managed to dodge them!
The vulture beast seemed to realize there were two people on the spiritual boat. It let out a screech and spat out barrage after barrage of wind blades, which were shrouded in a thick black mist.
A rancid stench wafted through the air. The other birds flying nearby were instantly knocked out of the sky by the fumes.
Jiang Lu immediately constructed a barrier with her spiritual energy, shouting,
“Senior Brother Bai, speed up!”
Senior Brother Bai nodded vigorously, shoving several more spirit stones into the boat's energy slots.
The freezing wind blades lunged at them, slicing past the spiritual boat's hull in a dense barrage. The sharp sound of tearing air rang out in an ear-piercing roar.
Every wind blade that grazed the hull shaved off splinters of spiritual wood. The boat shook violently, the sudden loss of balance pulling the entire vessel into a heavy, uncontrollable tilt to one side. The protective barrier on the boat flickered wildly, its pale gold halo rippling in waves as if it were about to collapse at any moment.
“Junior Sister, hold on tight!”
Senior Brother Bai yelled, then gripped the spiritual boat's helm tightly, flipping the vessel upside down in an instant.
Jiang Lu immediately crouched down, gripping the boat's railing with both hands.
She felt the spiritual boat spin three hundred and sixty degrees a few times before finally stabilizing.
“Go!”
Jiang Lu threw out a protective array. Without a physical medium to anchor it in midair, the array could only hold for a brief moment.
In that split second, she slapped several Extreme Speed Talismans onto the spiritual boat, causing it to accelerate once more.
However, after only a few breaths of time, it slowed back down to its original speed.
Extreme Speed Talismans were meant to be used on cultivators; applying them to objects yielded very little effect.
Still, those few breaths of time were more than enough.
The two of them exhaled deeply, their foreheads drenched in sweat. Looking back at the vulture beast they had successfully shaken off, they exchanged a glance and burst into hearty laughter.
“My thanks to you this time, Junior Sister. You can keep the remaining magic tools.”
Senior Brother Bai wiped the sweat from his brow and pointed at the storage bag, speaking to Jiang Lu.
Jiang Lu accepted them without standing on ceremony. There were at least dozens of magic tools left inside. If she sold them, they would fetch a handsome sum.
As expected of a disciple under the Grand Elder; he was incredibly generous.
Elixir cultivators really made too much money!
And on top of that, Senior Brother Bai was also an armaments cultivator!
“Senior Brother Bai, how did you provoke that vulture beast? If I remember correctly, their nests are located high up on steep cliffs.”
Senior Brother Bai gave an embarrassed smile.
“It really was an accident. I was competing with a Shangyang Sect disciple for a spiritual plant, and who would have thought that shameless fellow would lure me over there? He had it easy—he escaped with an Instant Teleportation Talisman, leaving me all alone to face it.”
“But how could I possibly defeat a Tier Four vulture beast? So, I had no choice but to run. Fortunately, I ran into you, Junior Sister, or else escaping this time wouldn't have been so easy.”
“By the way, where are you headed, Junior Sister?”
