Chapter 67 · Volume 1

Inner Sect Disciple

His gaze shifted to Jiang Lu.
“Raise your head.”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Lu lifted her head slightly, letting her gaze rise slowly until it met a pair of shoes patterned with gold thread, where she immediately stopped.
A late-stage Qi Condensation cultivator?
He was momentarily surprised. He raised his hand and began rapidly pinching his fingers in calculation.
Suddenly, his brow furrowed, a flicker of surprise crossing his dark eyes. He cast another glance at Jiang Lu before resuming his calculations.
To his astonishment, he could not see Jiang Lu's future. He had only ever encountered such a horoscope in a select few individuals, all of whom possessed immense fortune.
Yet, those with immense fortune always carried golden lines of destiny, which he could not detect on her at all.
Pressing his lips together, he brought his right index and middle fingers together and swept them across his eyes. Instantly, his eyes erupted with a golden light.
Golden starlight swirled within his pupils.
Jiang Lu froze, feeling as though she had been locked in place.
Jiang Lu's figure was reflected in his eyes. Her aura was exceptionally pure, devoid of any chaotic impurities. There was only one explanation for this: she possessed a pure mind and a heart that cared for all living beings.
“What is your spiritual root?” he asked.
“A five-elements mixed spiritual root,” Jiang Lu replied.
To think she didn't have a light or dark spiritual root. He had only ever seen such a pure aura on individuals with those elements.
After a moment of contemplation, he stroked his beard. With a flick of his wrist, a wisp of pale purple spiritual energy drifted toward Fu Yao.
It was best to keep such an unpredictable variable close, just like his youngest disciple.
“Let her stay.”
Fu Yao caught it with both hands. The spiritual energy settled in her palm and transformed into a deep green leaf. Her face lit up with joy.
The deeper the green, the more harmless and trustworthy Jiang Lu was.
“Thank you, Master,” Fu Yao bowed respectfully, then took a few steps back to lead Jiang Lu away.
“From now on, you will cultivate by my side. Yuhua Peak of the Liuyun Sect is my personal peak. With this leaf and this token, you can enter and leave as you please.”
Fu Yao handed the leaf and a white token to Jiang Lu. The characters 【Yuhua】 were carved onto the token.
Jiang Lu did not know that the moment she accepted the jade token, 'Jiang Ye' became an inner sect disciple of the Liuyun Sect. Assigned to Yuhua Peak as a disciple under the Sect Master's lineage, it was no exaggeration to say she had ascended to the heavens in a single bound.
“Understood. Thank you, Senior Sister,” Jiang Lu said, taking them with both hands. She then followed a disciple whom Fu Yao had summoned over.
“Junior Sister, my name is Cheng Xin. You can call me Senior Sister Xin. What is your name? You are truly lucky to enter the inner sect directly.”
The disciple looked at Jiang Lu with envy. One had to know that becoming an inner sect disciple was no simple matter; many disciples remained in the outer sect for their entire lives.
Yet, she had been personally brought here by the Eldest Senior Sister. She surely possessed some extraordinary talent.
Hearing this, Jiang Lu stiffened.
What did she mean, 'become an inner sect disciple'? Did this count as betraying her master?
But on second thought, she hadn't formally gone through a master-disciple ceremony, so... it shouldn't count, right?
She turned her head, stammering slightly as she looked at the senior sister before her.
“Senior Sister, my name is Jiang Ye.”
“Junior Sister Jiang, this is the residence area for inner sect disciples. The cave dwellings and courtyards glowing with a white light are unoccupied. You can choose any of them to reside in.”
She then took out a jade slip.
“These are the Yuhua Peak Inner Sect Disciple Rules. You can look through them yourself, Junior Sister Jiang.”
Jiang Lu took it and found a relatively secluded courtyard. Upon entering, the courtyard's barrier automatically activated, isolating it from the outside world.
Jiang Lu immediately took out her spiritual slip to message her master, explaining how she had ended up at the Liuyun Sect by a stroke of luck.
When Ye Qing read it, he thought to himself that his little disciple's fortune was indeed excellent.
As long as she didn't formally take another master, it was fine. She could just treat it as going to the Liuyun Sect for fun. After all, he had a good relationship with several of the sect masters. It was merely his disciple going to their place to learn.
It was of no consequence.
Every year, various forces sent their disciples to study elsewhere. He would just have a word with his senior sister.
He told Jiang Lu to study hard at the Liuyun Sect. Since he was currently away and unable to guide her personally, taking this opportunity to learn from those sects was a great alternative.
However—
A mischievous smile played on his lips.
He didn't really want to tell them that Jiang Lu was his disciple just yet.
With her talent, it was only a matter of time before she stood out. When they were all shocked by her genius, he would suddenly pop out and declare her as his disciple...
Hehehe~
Just thinking about it made him feel incredibly smug!
And so, the delightful decision was made!
Seeing that her master said it was fine, Jiang Lu's heart settled. As long as it didn't count as betraying her sect, she was relieved.
Jiang Lu then sat down in peace to meditate. Arriving in a place with such dense spiritual energy for the first time, she truly couldn't resist the urge to cultivate!
The surrounding spiritual energy continuously gathered toward her, and the bead inside her body spun rapidly, drawing the purest spiritual energy into her.
Because the spiritual energy here was so abundant, it did not form a massive vortex like before. Her cultivation looked no different from that of other highly talented disciples in the sect, so no one noticed anything unusual.
Jiang Lu exhaled a breath of turbid air and took out the Liuyun Sect's disciple rules to read. After gaining a general understanding, she put them aside.
The spiritual beasts poked their heads out of her pouch, taking deep breaths of the rich spiritual energy.
Ah~
This was a true paradise! Compared to this, the spiritual energy in places like Xijiang City was simply too barren.
Chi Li and Cang Chen exchanged a glance and chuckled softly.
Mengbao watched them laugh, and though it didn't understand why, it joined in anyway.
Jiang Lu: These three idiots.
“Junior Sister Jiang, come to the Dharma Hall.”
Jiang Lu saw her token flashing and suddenly realized—so the token could also transmit messages like a spiritual slip!
“Senior Sister Cheng, I'll be right there.”
After confirming the message was from Cheng Xin, she replied immediately and prepared to head over.
She had already memorized the map, so she naturally knew where it was.
The three spiritual beasts were still snoring softly; it seemed the dense spiritual energy here was highly beneficial to them.
Jiang Lu scooped them back into her pouch. Her quality of life had improved significantly; the pouch was now woven with spiritual energy, which helped shield the spiritual beasts from outside eyes.
“Senior Sister Cheng.”
When Jiang Lu walked into the Dharma Hall, she saw Senior Sister Cheng busily working. Upon seeing Jiang Lu, Cheng Xin offered a slight smile.
“Wait a moment, Junior Sister.”
Jiang Lu nodded and stood aside to wait, watching Cheng Xin.
She watched Cheng Xin direct various disciples to collect their respective missions. After observing for a while, she came to an understanding.
Senior Sister Cheng was essentially the head housekeeper of Yuhua Peak, organizing the duties of all the disciples.
After a long while, she finally walked over to Jiang Lu.
“Junior Sister Jiang, here is the situation. The Eldest Senior Sister mentioned that although you are an inner sect disciple, your strength is only at the Qi Condensation realm. Your priority right now is to raise your cultivation.”
“However, if you focus solely on cultivation, you won't be able to complete the required inner sect missions. Consequently, you won't receive the monthly resources allocated to inner sect disciples.”
“But don't worry, Junior Sister. You can still access all the other public resources. Besides, the spiritual energy within the sect is incredibly abundant, so you should be able to advance very quickly. Once you reach the Foundation Establishment realm, you can start taking on missions normally.”
So that was how it worked.
Jiang Lu wasn't particularly interested in those missions or resources anyway. Her current priority was indeed to raise her strength.
