Bai Ruochu shook her head frantically. “No... it’s not just the land! I overheard a conversation between my father and Uncle Gu. They mentioned that the Su family was a local elite family with deep roots and too much influence.”
“If they only took the land without completely crushing you, there was a chance you might recover or find something out... it would be a huge problem.”
“They had to... they had to make sure you never had a chance to make a comeback. That was the only way to ensure the land stayed firmly in their hands, and... so no one would look into what they intended to do with it after it was taken.”
“What did they intend to do with it?” Su Wan immediately seized on the key point.
“I... I don’t know!” A look of genuine bewilderment filled Bai Ruochu’s eyes.
“I really don’t know! I only vaguely heard that it was related to some project. The security clearance for it was very high, and it was a bit strange...”
“I asked my father about it once, but he warned me very sternly not to poke around. He said knowing too much wouldn’t do me any good.”
Su Wan stared intently at Bai Ruochu, her mental power quietly spreading out to sense the other woman’s emotional fluctuations.
Bai Ruochu’s mind was currently consumed by terror; she wasn’t lying.
From these fragments of information, Su Wan guessed that this might only be the tip of the iceberg.
But it was enough.
The fact that the Bai and Gu families had gone to such lengths to seize the land, combined with her father’s exceptionally firm stance on protecting it, proved that this plot of land hidden an incredible secret.
And this secret was likely the root cause of the Su family’s downfall and the center of the coming storm.
Su Wan slowly straightened up and retracted the dagger.
Seeing her pull the blade away, Bai Ruochu had just breathed a sigh of relief when she heard Su Wan’s icy voice again:
“Who holds the property rights to that land now?”
Bai Ruochu shuddered and whispered, “It should be under the Gu family’s name by now.”
“I’m not sure about the specific details of the operation, but the final legal documents were definitely signed by the Gu family.”
“Our Bai family... we likely received our share of the benefits through other means.”
The Gu family...
Su Wan closed her eyes briefly. When she opened them again, they were filled with a resolute clarity.
She looked at the wretched Bai Ruochu before her and then glanced at Old K, who was still under mental control.
Both of these people had witnessed her anomalies firsthand. Old K had even personally experienced the horror of having his consciousness forcibly stripped away.
Once they were allowed to leave alive, the news that she possessed supernatural powers would inevitably leak out.
The Bai family, the Gu family, and perhaps even larger forces hidden behind the scenes would focus their gaze on her.
At that point, she would never know another day of peace on Blue Star.
She could not leave any loose ends.
Compared to the emotional Bai Ruochu, this skilled and strong-willed Old K was clearly the greater threat.
He had to die.
Su Wan’s gaze was cold; she had already made her decision.
She controlled Old K to release his grip on Bai Ruochu, but she kept him standing where he was, like a puppet that had lost its soul.
Bai Ruochu collapsed to the ground, gasping for air. She looked at Su Wan with uncertainty and fear, wondering what she would do next.
Su Wan leaned over and, with her gloved hand, picked up the dagger she had just used to threaten Bai Ruochu.
She didn’t walk toward Old K. Instead, she stepped slowly toward Bai Ruochu.
Terrified, Bai Ruochu scrambled backward, her voice trembling. “What... what are you doing now? I told you everything I know!”
Su Wan didn’t answer. She simply forced the dagger into Bai Ruochu’s trembling hand and then gripped her hand tight.
The powerful Mental Domination ability was activated once more.
Bai Ruochu felt a surge of icy power flood her brain. Her thoughts instantly became sluggish and blurred, yet her body was pulled upright by an involuntary force.
Her hand, clutching the dagger, was moved by an invisible strength toward the motionless, standing Old K.
“No... don’t... let me go...” What remained of Bai Ruochu’s consciousness offered a weak resistance, but it was no match for Su Wan’s will.
She was like a bystander in a horrific dream, watching helplessly as she raised the dagger and aimed the blade at Old K’s defenseless throat.
Old K’s eyes were hollow. He showed no reaction to Bai Ruochu’s movements, standing as still as a statue.
In the next instant, the hand Bai Ruochu used to hold the dagger was thrust forward violently!
“Squelch!”
The dull sound of the sharp blade tearing through flesh and cutting into the trachea was particularly horrifying in the silent warehouse.
Warm liquid sprayed out instantly, drenching Bai Ruochu’s head and face.
The thick scent of blood filled the air.
Through her hazy vision, Bai Ruochu saw a terrifying wound, deep enough to see bone, appear on Old K’s neck. Blood gushed out like a fountain, instantly staining his clothes and the floor beneath him.
Old K’s body convulsed twice. In the final moments of his life, his hollow eyes regained a flicker of focus, filled with shock and despair, before quickly dimming.
His tall frame crashed to the ground with a heavy thud.
“Aaaaaah!!!”
The extreme terror and visual impact acted like a violent electric current, instantly shattering Bai Ruochu’s psychological defenses.
She let out a shrill, distorted scream, and the dagger fell to the floor with a clang.
The horrific scene was deeply seared into her mind.
She had actually slit someone’s throat with her own hands!
The massive mental shock caused her vision to go black, and she lost consciousness completely.
Su Wan watched all of this calmly.
She stepped forward slowly and knelt beside Bai Ruochu.
Her powerful mental power, acting like a precision scalpel, directly invaded Bai Ruochu’s violently fluctuating Sea of Consciousness.
The mental power transformed into a chaotic vortex, frantically churning Bai Ruochu’s memory fragments and logical reasoning.
Normal chains of thought were forcibly broken and twisted; self-identity and perception of reality were blurred and confused...
The process lasted for nearly a minute.
Su Wan checked Bai Ruochu’s condition.
Her mental world was a total wreck, and the core cognitive areas were severely damaged.
Even if she woke up, she would be incoherent, her logic would be scrambled, and her memories would be shattered into pieces. She would be unable to narrate anything coherently, let alone identify Su Wan.
In medical terms, this could be diagnosed as schizophrenia or a severe worsening of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder caused by extreme fright and stimulation.
Commonly known as—going insane.
Su Wan carefully confirmed that Old K was completely dead before standing up and surveying the warehouse to begin cleaning the scene.
She wiped away all her footprints and fingerprints.
She collected any items that might have caught her scent.
She checked Bai Ruochu’s body for any potential biological traces she might have left behind.
She had to ensure that from any forensic perspective, it would be impossible to link her directly to what happened in the warehouse tonight.
Having finished everything, Su Wan quietly exited Warehouse 3 of the Hongguang Machinery Factory, her silhouette melting into the thick darkness as if she had never been there.
