“Don’t be too obsessed with finding the truth. Some truths are not meant for you to know, nor are they something you can bear.”
Gu Huaian’s tone remained gentle—so gentle it lacked any hint of aggression, yet it sent a chill down one’s spine.
“If you intend to damage the interests of the Gu Corporation, I certainly won’t make things easy for you.”
Su Wan’s eyes reddened slightly, looking as if she were frightened.
“What... what do you want to do?”
Gu Huaian looked at her reaction, seemingly satisfied.
“I’m not going to do anything...” His voice dropped even lower, as if he were coaxing a difficult child. “I just want to tell you: stop making waves and be obedient.”
He straightened up, took a step back, and pulled his hand from his pocket to adjust his cufflink.
His movements were composed and his posture elegant, like a gentleman who had just finished a pleasant conversation.
“Miss Su, I am very satisfied with this conversation of ours...”
“Therefore, I would like to invite you to be a guest at the Gu residence.”
Su Wan’s heart skipped a beat.
She could hardly believe her ears.
She had already realized that this Gu Huaian was likely the contact person between Gu Mingshan and Yuansou, the actual person in charge of that project within the Gu family, and the one who knew the true purpose of that plot of land!
She was just worrying about having no reason to get close to him, and he actually took the initiative to bring her back to the Gu residence?
Su Wan understood Gu Huaian’s intention almost instantly.
He was inviting her to be a “guest” so he could lock her away in the Gu residence, keeping her where he could monitor her at any time!
Although Gu Huaian was also an Ability User, the gap in strength between him and Su Wan was too vast. As long as Su Wan wished it, he would never be able to discover her identity as an Ability User.
So in his eyes, Su Wan was merely a bankrupt socialite, weak and helpless, whose only reliance was Gu Huaiyu’s infatuation and the Liu family’s protection.
And both of those were insignificant in the face of the Gu family.
Su Wan truly didn’t know if this Gu Huaian was being too clever for his own good or if he was simply stupid.
As long as she entered the Gu residence, she could effortlessly grasp everything happening within it!
Su Wan’s expression was somewhat panicked. “A guest?”
Her voice was raspy. “I’m not going!”
Gu Huaian seemed to have expected her refusal; the curve of his lips didn’t change in the slightest.
“Miss Su, you are a smart person. You should know why I am inviting you to the Gu residence.”
His tone remained gentle, but the coldness in his eyes intensified.
“I don’t want to care, nor can I be bothered to care, about the matters between you and my useless brother.” He tilted his head slightly, his gaze sweeping over the unconscious Gu Huaiyu on the ground.
“During this time, Gu Huaiyu has been completely infatuated with you and has done many stupid things!” His gaze fell back on Su Wan’s face.
“As for what exactly you want to do, I know it in my heart. Inviting you to the Gu residence is for the best for everyone.”
Su Wan’s breathing became rapid, and a perfectly timed tension appeared in her eyes.
“You want to put me under house arrest and monitor me!”
“Don’t make it sound so unpleasant.” Gu Huaian smiled. “It’s being a guest.”
He paused, his gaze becoming meaningful.
“Gu Huaiyu is very obsessed with you right now. Since he’s passed out like this, if he wakes up and doesn’t see you, I’m afraid he’ll pull some nonsense.”
He jerked his chin toward Gu Huaiyu.
“So, I need you to go to the Gu residence and take care of him.”
“After all, it’s because of you that he ended up like this.”
Su Wan shook her head frantically, her voice trembling. “I’m not going! What right do you have—”
“The right that you currently have no choice in the matter,” Gu Huaian interrupted, his voice gentle.
He pulled open the passenger door and reached out to grab Su Wan’s arm.
“Get out of the car.”
Su Wan struggled, her hands gripping the seatbelt tightly as her body shrank back into the seat.
“I’m not going! Gu Huaian! Let go of me!”
Gu Huaian’s hand was like an iron vice, clamping onto her wrist so she couldn’t break free.
“Miss Su, don’t make this difficult for me.”
Su Wan continued to struggle, using her other hand to pry at his fingers, her nails leaving several red marks on the back of his hand.
Gu Huaian’s brow furrowed slightly, and he increased the pressure in his grip.
“Enough.”
His voice turned cold. Then he leaned down, leaning close to Su Wan’s ear, his voice pressed extremely low, so low that only she could hear it.
“Miss Su, your sister-in-law, Liu Xin, has finally managed to take her son back to the Liu family.”
“Lele is still so small; he’s at his most adorable age.”
“Miss Su is a person who values her family. I assume you wouldn’t want anything to happen to the two of them, would you?”
Su Wan’s body froze instantly.
Her struggling stopped completely at that moment, like a machine that had been unplugged.
Her eyes reddened, her lips trembled slightly, and her gaze was filled with the humiliation and powerlessness of being backed into a corner.
Looking at her reaction, Gu Huaian’s lips curled into a smile.
“That’s more like it.” He released her wrist and stepped aside.
“Get out.”
Su Wan lowered her eyes and stopped struggling.
She unfastened the seatbelt and stepped out from the passenger seat.
Gu Huaian stood by, opened the passenger door of his own car, and jerked his chin toward the interior.
“Get in.”
Su Wan bit her lip and took a difficult step, bending down to sit in Gu Huaian’s passenger seat.
Gu Huaian didn’t look at her again. Instead, he walked over to Gu Huaiyu, bent down to grab him by the back of his collar, and hoisted him up from the ground.
The unconscious Gu Huaiyu was like a piece of luggage, stuffed into the back seat of the car by Gu Huaian.
The engine started, and the black sedan pulled onto the highway.
Gu Huaian held the steering wheel with both hands, his gaze calmly fixed on the road ahead, his posture composed.
“Don’t worry, Miss Su. Once we reach the Gu residence, I won’t mistreat you.”
“If you want to take revenge on my brother, toy with his feelings, and make him suffer with unrequited longing—I won’t interfere with that...”
Su Wan looked out the window at the scenery flashing by, saying nothing.
Gu Huaian didn’t seem to mind her silence as he continued,
“But there is one thing I must tell you.”
“That is, regarding what Gu Huaiyu promised you...” He paused. “Meeting your brother Su Zhuo and having his verdict overturned so he can be released...” The corners of his mouth curved up, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes.
“Forget about it.”
“As long as I am around, I will not let those things happen.”
Su Wan’s body stiffened slightly.
