Su Wan did not answer Jiang Yue’s inquiry.
She simply stood there without making a single move.
Yet Jiang Yue and Lu Chenzhou simultaneously felt an invisible pressure.
It felt as if they were being watched by a slumbering beast.
“We are from the Special Abnormal Affairs Bureau...” Lu Chenzhou’s voice was steady, but it was several beats slower than usual, every word weighed as if being carefully considered.
“We are on official duty. Please step aside!”
He had once faced an onslaught from three C-class Ability Users during a mission and emerged unscathed; he had even defeated a B-class opponent in one-on-one close-quarters combat.
But he could feel that the strength he took so much pride in was likely no more than that of an ant before this person.
Su Wan slightly raised her eyes, her gaze piercing through the shadow of her hood to land on Lu Chenzhou’s face.
It was only a faint glance, but Lu Chenzhou felt as though he had been seen through completely.
In that moment, all his trump cards, all his backup plans, and all his countermeasures seemed to have turned into a joke.
Lu Chenzhou gritted his teeth and tightened his grip on the dagger. He lowered his body slightly, shifting his center of gravity between his feet with his knees bent, entering a combat stance.
Jiang Yue also raised her electric stun pistol, aiming it at Su Wan’s chest.
Silver-white electric arcs crackled at the muzzle, emitting a faint popping sound.
Su Wan only intended to stop the two of them so that Liu Junnan could leave safely; she did not actually want to strike them.
However, Su Wan’s silence and stillness subjected Lu Chenzhou and Jiang Yue to an overwhelming pressure.
After several seconds of standoff, Jiang Yue was the first to buckle under the strain, and she struck first.
Her finger squeezed the trigger, and two silver-white electric arcs shot from the muzzle, tearing through the night straight toward Su Wan’s face!
The voltage of the stun gun was enough to instantly incapacitate an adult male. While its effect would be diminished against an Ability User, it should at least buy a few seconds of time!
But Su Wan did not move, nor did she even look at the two arcs.
When the electricity was less than half a meter from her body, it was as if it had struck an invisible wall.
The silver-white light exploded in the air with a piercing sizzle before dissipating into nothingness.
“What?!” Jiang Yue’s pupils shrank, her heart filled with extreme horror.
She could not imagine how strong the person before her truly was. The stun gun was actually useless against her?
Lu Chenzhou had already lunged forward the moment she fired!
His ability was pushed to its absolute limit, his muscles releasing like a spring compressed to the breaking point. He moved so fast that he left behind a blurred afterimage in the night.
The high-frequency vibration dagger stabbed toward Su Wan’s shoulder!
He did not use his full strength with this strike; he only wanted to force her to dodge, buying time for Jiang Yue to reorganize her attack.
Yet, when his dagger was a foot away from Su Wan, it could not penetrate a fraction further!
His wrist felt as if it were held by an invisible hand, suspended in mid-air, with all his strength drained away in an instant!
The high-frequency vibrating blade was still buzzing, but it remained a foot away from that black figure.
Su Wan glanced at him, then raised her hand, pressing her index and middle fingers together to lightly tap his forehead.
The force was as light as a falling blossom, a drop of water, or a feather drifting onto the skin.
But Lu Chenzhou felt as if his consciousness had been snatched from his body by a giant hand and tossed into a bottomless abyss.
His vision went black, and his entire body went limp.
The dagger slipped from his hand, bouncing twice on the concrete with a crisp metallic clang.
Jiang Yue’s pupils contracted sharply when she saw Lu Chenzhou collapse.
Without hesitation, she dropped the stun gun, drew a tactical knife from her lower back, and charged at Su Wan.
She was part of the Technical Support Group; close combat was not her forte.
But with her teammate incapacitated, she absolutely could not retreat, even knowing the person before her was immensely powerful!
Jiang Yue had only taken one step forward when she saw Su Wan turn toward her.
Using the same motion, Su Wan pressed her index and middle fingers together and gave a light tap through the air.
“You—”
Jiang Yue only managed one word before she felt something touch the space between her eyebrows.
It was warm and soft, like being brushed by a flower petal.
Then, her consciousness snapped.
Su Wan stood in place, looking down at the two people lying on the ground.
Her mental power swept over their heads.
Their breathing was steady and their heartbeats were normal; they had simply fainted.
The power she had used was the crushing suppression of the Level 4 Mid Stage, without exposing any characteristic traits of her abilities.
After confirming that she had left no information that could expose her identity, Su Wan turned and disappeared into the night.
A few seconds later, she was like a drop of water merging into the ocean, completely gone.
Two hours later, Jiang Yue was the first to regain consciousness.
She slowly opened her eyes, feeling very dazed.
Who was she? Where was she?
Memories pieced themselves back together like shards of a broken mirror.
Jiang Yue sat up abruptly.
The movement was too sudden; the lack of blood flow to her brain made her vision go dark for a moment.
Seeing Lu Chenzhou lying less than two meters away, Jiang Yue’s heart tightened.
“Lu Chenzhou! Wake up!”
Once they both regained their senses and realized neither was harmed, they finally breathed a sigh of relief.
The two of them were filled with doubt regarding the actions of the person in black.
“Who on earth was that?”
“With that person’s strength, killing us would have taken only an instant. But they only knocked us out. It looks like it was just to let the Yuansou Hunter Nest people leave safely...”
“Could that person be a high-ranking member of Yuansou, one of the Abyss Seats?” Jiang Yue speculated.
Lu Chenzhou couldn't figure it out either. That person’s strength was far too great, completely beyond the level they could interact with.
“Let’s report this as soon as possible!”
Inside the car.
Jiang Yue sat in the passenger seat and opened the encrypted terminal.
She pressed the record button and spoke into the terminal, her voice regaining the calm and logic expected of a technical specialist.
“East China Branch, Operations Department, Level 3 Technical Specialist Jiang Yue, reporting on the B+ Jiangcheng Cleaning Mission...”
“Failure!”
“Our side was intercepted by an unidentified individual during the pursuit.”
“The identity, gender, age, ability type, and power level of this individual are all unknown.”
“This individual did not use any known abilities, using only mental pressure to completely incapacitate our side.”
“Our attack methods were ineffective against them; close-quarters attacks were blocked by an invisible barrier. Our side was knocked unconscious without being able to mount any effective resistance. The duration of unconsciousness was approximately two hours.”
“Judging by the intensity of the pressure, this person’s strength is at least A-class, with the possibility of S-class not being ruled out.”
She closed her eyes, the scene flashing in her mind once more—
That raised hand, that finger lightly tapping the forehead.
“This individual showed no killing intent toward us.”
“We were not moved after being knocked out, our personal belongings were not tampered with, and no tracking or listening devices were found.”
“This person’s objective was solely to delay us and cover the escape of the mission targets.”
“In summary, there is at least one high-level Ability User in Jiangcheng with a strength of A-class or even S-class, whose identity, stance, and objectives are unknown.”
“The relationship between this individual and the previously active members of the Yuansou Hunter Nest remains unclear.”
“Recommendation: Terminate the current mission rank assessment and re-evaluate the situation in Jiangcheng.”
“Request: Technical support from Headquarters, expansion of the energy wave signature database, and the dispatch of an A-class or higher Operations Specialist if necessary...”
