“You motherf—”
Liu Junnan’s eyes turned red with extreme humiliation and rage.
In that instant, he lost all reason!
His mental power erupted like an invisible blade, stabbing ruthlessly toward the space between Su Wan’s eyebrows!
Even if he couldn't win, he wanted her to know that he, Liu Junnan, wasn't a pushover anyone could trample on!
However, before his mental power could even travel half a foot from his body, it was as if it had slammed into an invisible wall.
His mental power sank into Su Wan’s brow like a drop of water into the ocean, failing to stir even a single ripple.
Then, that power recoiled.
Liu Junnan felt a thunderous boom in his mind, as if something had exploded inside his head.
His consciousness was completely shattered in that moment. Countless icy strands of mental power, like steel needles, stabbed into his cerebral cortex, pierced through his consciousness defense, and drove straight into his deepest reaches!
“Ah—!”
Liu Junnan let out a short, stifled scream.
His body convulsed violently, and then he collapsed limply to the ground.
He lay on the floor, his entire body trembling uncontrollably. Cold sweat rolled down his forehead as he gasped for breath in large gulps.
The intense agony brought him back to his senses.
He finally realized one thing.
His proud sensing ability was absolutely nothing before this woman!
His meticulous planning, his frantic pursuit, his sacrifices at any cost—
In her eyes, it was all likely nothing more than...
A farce that had nothing to do with her.
The hatred he believed existed between him and Su Wan was entirely one-sided.
She didn’t even know who he was, what he looked like, or how much hardship and suffering he had endured over the past month to find her.
He hated her to death, but until tonight, she probably hadn't even known such a person existed in this world.
Liu Junnan lay on the ground and suddenly laughed.
The laugh was low, like the whimpering of night wind passing through ruins.
He looked up at Su Wan.
He finally realized with total clarity that this woman was not someone he could handle!
Su Wan watched him, and another emotion finally appeared in her calm eyes: annoyance.
She was tired of saying another word to this irrationally obsessive man.
Su Wan pressed the muzzle of the micro-particle emitter against Liu Junnan’s forehead once more.
“Speak...”
“About your organization, about that project, and about my family’s land... Tell me everything you know.”
Liu Junnan stared at her, his Adam's apple bobbing.
“You think I’ll talk?” His voice was so raspy it was almost inaudible, carrying a nearly self-flagellating mockery.
“Do you know what happens to those who betray the organization?”
Su Wan didn’t speak; she only pushed the muzzle forward slightly.
“A fate worse than death!” Liu Junnan ignored the gun at his forehead and spoke to himself.
His voice was terrifyingly calm, as if he were stating a fact that had nothing to do with him.
“I cannot betray the organization!”
“Once I betray them, my end... will be ten thousand times more miserable than death!”
“You wouldn’t understand! People like you... who have never been marked by the organization will never understand.”
His voice cracked on the last sentence, and a flash of genuine terror appeared in his eyes.
That terror was not for Su Wan, but for the “organization” he spoke of.
Su Wan looked into his eyes and remained silent for a few seconds.
She could see it.
This man wasn't lying, nor was he bluffing.
He truly didn't dare.
The organization’s control over him was bone-deep, likely even firmer than his own will.
Su Wan didn't say anything more.
She moved her finger slightly, and the muzzle of the micro-particle emitter tapped against Liu Junnan’s forehead.
“Get inside.”
Liu Junnan was escorted by her into Room 102.
The moment they entered, Su Wan’s mental power spread out like an invisible net, sealing the entire room tight.
She knew that trying to pry information out of this man’s mouth through questioning was useless.
He was telling the truth; he really didn't dare to betray them.
Liu Junnan was forced into a chair, watching Su Wan sit down across from him.
Her gaze fell on his face, as calm as a pool of stagnant water.
“I’ll ask you one last time,” her voice was very soft. “About the organization behind you, about that project, about that land—will you speak?”
Liu Junnan curled his lip. “I told you, I can’t—”
Before he could finish, a cold, irresistible force arrogantly invaded his consciousness.
Liu Junnan’s pupils dilated suddenly.
He was all too familiar with this feeling!
He had seen this method used on Bai Chengye back at Jade Manor!
But only when this method was actually used on himself did he truly experience—
The meaning of despair.
Su Wan’s mental power was like a pair of invisible hands, reaching into his cerebral cortex and driving straight into the depths of his memories.
Liu Junnan tried to resist, but his will was as fragile as paper before Su Wan.
He could even feel his own memories...
Those memories he cherished, protected, and thought would never be touched by anyone were being peeled away layer by layer.
His childhood.
His youth.
The ecstatic feeling when he first awakened his sensing ability.
The day he was brought into the organization, and the heavy iron gate that slowly closed behind him.
Then, things from even deeper.
The structure, hierarchy, and operation of that organization.
Everything Liu Junnan knew unfolded page by page in Su Wan’s consciousness, like a book being forced open.
...
After an unknown amount of time, Su Wan withdrew her mental power.
She leaned back in her chair, eyes closed, digesting the information she had obtained from Liu Junnan’s memory.
Liu Junnan slumped in the chair, his face as pale as paper, his entire body shaking incessantly.
His gaze was hollow as he stared at the ceiling, a trace of drool hanging from the corner of his mouth, looking as if all his strength had been drained away.
His memory had been turned completely inside out.
All his secrets, all his privacy, everything he thought no one would ever know—
Had all been seen by this woman.
A miserable arc pulled at the corner of his mouth; he wanted to laugh, but he couldn't.
So this was what it felt like to have one's memories invaded.
Su Wan opened her eyes, her brow furrowing slightly.
Liu Junnan knew far less than she had expected.
Liu Junnan’s childhood had always been shrouded by a gray sky.
Under that gray sky was a vast cluster of buildings.
The architectural styles varied; some looked like ancient castles, some like modern research centers, and others like military bases.
They were enclosed by high walls and electric fences, forming an isolated city.
In this city, children had no names, only serial numbers.
Liu Junnan’s serial number was VII-IX-III.
District Seven, Ninth Batch, Number Three...
