Meeting Su Wan’s gaze, Chen Shijie let out a dejected sigh, his voice dropping low.
“I know that in your eyes, I’m a madman, a research-obsessed monster with no humanity.”
“I have indeed done some terrible things in the past...”
“But I can promise you, from now on, I will turn over a new leaf. I will never again kill the innocent!”
“Also, Miss Su, you promised me that you would give me the bracelet on your wrist to study...”
Su Wan ignored his words and instead opened the system panel in her mind, finding what she was looking for.
Chen Shijie’s laboratory needed staff.
The Basic Laboratory was quite large and well-equipped, but it lacked personnel.
Those precision analyzers, incubators, and preparation devices were too much for Chen Shijie to operate alone.
He needed assistants.
However, it was impossible for Su Wan to draw personnel from the tenants to give to him.
Those pariahs and commoners barely knew a few words, let alone how to operate high-end equipment like a gene sequence analyzer.
The only choice was robots.
【Research Assistant Robot (Basic Type)】
【Description: An assistant robot specifically designed for scientific research in fields such as biology, genetics, and pharmaceuticals. Possesses high-precision operational capabilities and can assist researchers with sample processing, data analysis, experimental recording, and equipment maintenance.】
【Functions include but are not limited to: sample preparation and processing, microscopic imaging operations, preliminary gene sequence analysis, cell culture assistance, experimental data recording and organization, daily maintenance of laboratory equipment, reagent and sample management, and experimental environment monitoring.】
【Operating Precision: 0.01 mm】
【Data Processing Capability: Can process multiple sets of experimental data simultaneously and automatically generate preliminary analysis reports.】
【Language Ability: Can recognize and execute professional scientific research commands and engage in basic technical communication with researchers.】
【Price: 8,000 Points per unit】
【Stock: 6】
At eight thousand Points per unit, they were significantly more expensive than the Butler-C type, but their functions were much more powerful.
Professional work required professional tools.
These robots should be enough to distract Chen Shijie, keeping him too busy to focus on her bracelet.
“System, exchange for six Research Assistant Robots (Basic Type). Deploy them to the underground laboratory and place them under Chen Shijie’s command.”
【Exchange confirmed: Research Assistant Robot (Basic Type) × 6. Points consumed: 48,000.】
【Six robots are in place and are being deployed to the underground laboratory.】
Six brand-new, silver-white robots appeared out of thin air at the laboratory entrance, lining up in a neat row.
Their design was sleeker and more fluid than the Butler-C type, with longer and more flexible mechanical arms. Instead of a red indicator light on their chests, they had a pale blue translucent panel displaying real-time data and an operating interface.
Chen Shijie was still babbling something to Su Wan when he heard movement at the door. He poked his head out to look, and his mouth slowly fell open.
He bypassed Su Wan and walked quickly to the nearest robot, reaching out to gently stroke its silver-white casing.
“This... this is a Research Assistant Robot?” His voice was trembling with unbelievable ecstasy.
“I’ve seen literature on this level of equipment at the Dawn Federation General Institute. It’s said that only provincial-level, or A-class research institutes, are equipped with these...”
“How... how do you have such a thing?”
Chen Shijie was so excited he was incoherent. His gaze swept over the six silver-white robots, his eyes shining with terrifying intensity.
“With them here, the research progress for the Awakening Potion can be accelerated even more!”
Su Wan nodded. “If you need anything done, tell them directly. They will record all your experimental data, manage the experimental materials, and operate the basic equipment.”
“As for the test subjects for high-level Ability Users...”
“They are locked in the Live Experiment Zone. There are currently thirteen of them. Two are normal humans, and the rest are Gene-Modified Organisms.”
Chen Shijie was beyond thrilled. Everything was here—even the test subjects he had struggled to obtain at the Deep Blue Research Institute were here in abundance!
“Rest assured.” Chen Shijie’s voice carried an unprecedented certainty. “I definitely won’t let you down!”
Su Wan glanced at him, said nothing more, and turned to leave the laboratory.
Chen Shijie stood there, watching Su Wan’s back disappear at the end of the corridor. The feverish excitement on his face gradually faded into a calm expression.
He turned around, his gaze sweeping across the spacious, bright laboratory, and his mouth slowly curved into a heartfelt smile.
The venue, the equipment, the data, and even the test subjects—he had everything now.
All he had to do was turn the Awakening Potion from a blueprint into reality.
The probability of an ordinary person becoming an Ability User would increase from one in a thousand to twenty percent.
When that happened, the combat power of the Terminal Station would experience a qualitative leap.
A team composed of Ability Users, even if they were only Level 1, would be a force to be reckoned with in the Ruin Zone.
And all of this would be his, Chen Shijie’s, handiwork!
The name Chen Shijie would surely be written into the history books!
Chen Shijie gripped the silver storage device in his hand and walked into the depths of the laboratory.
When Su Wan walked upstairs, the first-floor lobby was still bustling with noise.
The newly arrived pariahs were still processing their move-in procedures. The eight robots, C1 through C8, were running at full speed—registering, scanning, signing contracts, and assigning rooms. The entire process was orderly.
The pariahs who had already finished their procedures were being guided by members of the Order Maintenance Team through the corridors toward the dormitory buildings on the east and west sides.
Su Wan stood at the corner of the stairs, her gaze scanning the crowd.
Feng Mu was standing in a corner of the lobby, holding a folder and speaking in low tones with Black Rat.
Seeing Su Wan, Feng Mu hurried over to greet her.
“Master.” Feng Mu bowed slightly, his voice respectful.
“The transfer work for the Outer City has been fully completed. The current statistics are—”
He opened the folder and read, “A total of 2,316 pariahs were transferred. Combined with those who arrived of their own accord from yesterday to today, the total number of pariahs from the Outer City has reached over 4,100.”
“Regarding the City Defense Force, the 326 soldiers who participated in this transfer are all currently resting inside the Terminal Station.”
“When are they going back?” Su Wan asked.
“After the Cold Wave passes.”
“The communication from the Outer City City Defense Force branch has been down since the Cold Wave began.”
“We don’t know if Pei Su cut the connection or if there’s an issue with the equipment.”
Su Wan’s brow furrowed slightly but quickly smoothed out.
If it was cut, then it was cut.
It was actually perfect for these soldiers to stay at the Terminal Station.
The Cold Wave would last for more than half a month. If Pei Su couldn't contact them, those soldiers would remain “trapped” at the Terminal Station.
As time passed, they would see the virtues of the Terminal Station—the order, the warmth, and the hope found here.
By then, even if Pei Su ordered them to return, they might not necessarily be willing to leave.
