A cold light flashed in Su Wan’s eyes.
No.
She absolutely could not let those three speak.
She looked up at the busy construction site. Old Zheng was shouting at the top of his lungs, directing the workers to unload the cargo. No one noticed anything unusual about her.
Su Wan walked quickly to Old Zheng’s side, her voice calm. “Captain Zheng, it’s getting late. I have to head out. I’ll leave the construction site to you for now.”
Old Zheng wiped away his sweat and grinned. “Sure thing, Miss Su. You go ahead and take care of your business. I’ve got things covered here!”
Su Wan nodded, turned, and vanished into the night.
She didn’t take the main road. Instead, she navigated the intricate alleys of the urban village, twisting and turning until she reached a secluded old street.
On the corner sat a twenty-four-hour labor protection supply store.
She went inside and bought a set of dark blue cleaner’s coveralls, a matching peaked cap, a cotton mask that could cover half her face, and a pair of cheap white string gloves.
After leaving, she ducked into a deserted alley and quickly changed.
When she emerged, the young woman in athletic wear was gone, replaced by a slightly hunched, hurried-looking cleaner.
She intentionally pulled the brim of her cap low and walked with a slight slouch. Her entire aura had changed.
The early morning streets were empty and cold. Occasionally, a taxi would drive by, but no one spared her a second glance.
Jiangcheng Central Hospital, inpatient department.
Su Wan didn’t enter through the main entrance. Instead, she slipped in through the side employee entrance.
Her mental power acted like invisible tentacles, silently covering a range of dozens of meters, allowing her to precisely avoid every nurse or security guard she might have encountered.
Soon, she found the ward where Li Bao and his two men were—a three-person room located in a corner on the eighth floor of the inpatient building.
Standing in the stairwell at the end of the hallway, her mental power pierced through the walls, giving her a clear view of the situation inside the room.
Three hospital beds. Three men lying quietly.
The monitors showed that their vital signs were stable—heart rate, blood pressure, respiration... everything was normal.
Their brain waves were slowly transitioning from a state of deep sleep toward wakefulness.
They weren’t awake yet, but they were close.
Su Wan’s gaze turned cold.
She didn’t enter the room, nor did she even approach the door.
She simply stood there, more than twenty meters away and separated by several walls, and closed her eyes.
The mental power of a Level 2 Ability User was enough for her to accomplish this.
Her powerful mental will was like an invisible blade, precisely piercing through the walls and invading those three sleeping brains.
Their already fragile consciousnesses were like wet paper before Su Wan.
She showed no mercy.
The tendrils of her mental power probed into their cerebral cortex, finding the regions responsible for thought, memory, and consciousness, and then—
Destroyed them.
She didn't simply keep them unconscious; she completely severed the neural connections in those areas.
In an instant, the brain waves of the three men fluctuated violently before falling into a dead silence.
The waveforms on the monitors changed from regular sleep rhythms into meaningless, chaotic lines.
In medical terms, this was called brain death.
They could still breathe, and their hearts could still beat, but as soon as the ventilators were pulled, their lives would end completely.
Even if they weren't pulled, they would never wake up. They would have no consciousness, no memory, and certainly would never say another word.
Su Wan retracted her mental power and leaned against the wall, letting out a soft breath.
She opened her eyes. They were as calm as still water, without a single ripple of emotion.
These three men deserved to die.
They had spent years walking the line of legality. Their predatory lending had destroyed countless families, and their hands were stained with the blood of innocents.
Even without today’s events, Su Wan would have settled the score with them sooner or later.
Now, she had simply moved up the schedule.
She took one last look toward the ward, turned, and silently left the hospital the same way she had come.
She changed back into her own clothes in a deserted alley and stashed the cleaner’s gear into her storage space.
When she stepped out again, she was once more the cool, composed Su Wan.
The night was as deep as ink. On the highway leading to the city from the western suburbs of Jiangcheng, two black business vans were parked one behind the other on the roadside.
Qin Zhong’an and Fang Yingshan stood by the first van, gazing at the dark silhouette of the mountain in the distance.
Liu Junnan had been gone for ten minutes, and no word had come back.
Just as Qin Zhong’an was about to order men to go looking for him, a figure stepped slowly out of the shadows at the foot of the mountain. It was Liu Junnan.
“Young Master Liu!” Qin Zhong’an hurried forward to meet him, asking urgently in a low voice, “Are you alright? What happened?”
Fang Yingshan followed closely behind, his expression tense.
Liu Junnan’s face looked handsome under the dim streetlights. He glanced at Qin Zhong’an with his narrow eyes, let out a cold snort, and climbed into the car listlessly.
He had no intention of speaking about his embarrassment.
Seeing Liu Junnan like this, Qin Zhong’an felt a surge of anger but could only suppress it.
After all, this fellow’s temperament was notorious within the organization.
Qin Zhong’an got into the car and saw Liu Junnan slumped in the back seat as if he had no bones, his voice sounding weak and drained.
“The most important thing right now is to see that girl from the Bai family. Once we see her, we’ll have all the answers.”
Qin Zhong’an was startled. “But that girl is currently in police custody. We...”
“I know!” Liu Junnan interrupted him. “That’s why we need to go to the scene first!”
He looked at Fang Yingshan. “Contact that old man from the Bai family. We’re going to the crime scene.”
Only now did Fang Yingshan truly experience the young man’s eccentric nature. He nodded immediately, pulled out his phone, and dialed Bai Hongyuan’s number.
“Old Master Bai, are the arrangements made?”
Bai Hongyuan’s voice came through. “Everything is arranged. You can come at any time.”
“Good. We’re heading over now,” Fang Yingshan said succinctly.
Bai Hongyuan didn’t say much either, giving them the address directly. “I’ll be waiting for you at the east gate of the Hongguang Machinery Factory.”
Twenty minutes later, the two business vans entered the vicinity of the Hongguang Machinery Factory.
At the main gate of the factory area, the temporarily erected police cordon swayed slightly in the night wind.
Several temporary floodlights illuminated the entrance brightly. Two uniformed officers stood guard by the cordon.
Bai Hongyuan was already waiting at the gate, a black Mercedes van parked beside him.
Seeing Fang Yingshan’s vehicles approach, he hurried forward.
“Mr. Fang.” Bai Hongyuan exchanged a brief handshake with Fang Yingshan before turning his gaze toward Qin Zhong’an and Liu Junnan, his eyes filled with reverence.
His curiosity was even greater regarding the young Liu Junnan.
Sensing Bai Hongyuan’s gaze, Liu Junnan slowly looked over. When their eyes met, Bai Hongyuan felt a sudden chill, as if he were being stared down by a venomous snake.
He quickly looked away, not daring to look again.
