Staff B-050's finger was already resting on the trigger.
As a veteran guard of the organization, his nerves had long since been trained to be as cold and hard as steel.
Once the command was given, he would unleash his firepower without hesitation, no matter what stood before him.
However, the moment he was about to pull the trigger, the world vanished.
B-050 felt a buzzing in his brain, and his vision instantly dissolved into nothingness.
It wasn't a feeling that could be described by simply closing one's eyes. This darkness was thick, viscous, and filled with despair; not even the faintest glimmer of light remained.
Then, sound vanished as well.
The faint hum of the air circulation within the sealed pod, the whine of the electromagnetic rifle's barrel, even his own heavy breathing from extreme tension—all were erased in an instant by an invisible hand.
He had fallen into an absolutely silent, absolutely hollow abyss.
"It's been quite a while since I've used this move."
Floating in mid-air, Ren Yi leisurely observed the "Consumable" before him.
Since his awakening, illusion had always been his most fundamental ability, but the previous two Instances had been too restrictive, and he hadn't used it for some time.
In the casino, that Battle-Damaged Guy had his own "Time Stop" cheat, which directly severed the logical chain of illusions on a physical level.
In the Anomaly Kill Instance, the rules were heavy, and when it came time to act, he usually resorted to direct, violent demolition, leaving no room for illusions to make an appearance.
But Ren Yi didn't feel out of practice; after all, he had received "one-on-one" tutoring from Dr. Lin.
During his previous rank advancement, Ren Yi's abilities had already evolved.
His current illusion ability no longer required "eye contact" as a medium. Furthermore, in addition to vision, he could now influence hearing.
Ren Yi was well aware that the group of people in the command hall next door was watching him through countless cameras.
His illusions could not influence those lab coats through a screen.
Therefore, he decided to let B-050 put on a spectacular "performance" to demonstrate his "uniqueness" to the Doctor.
Rather than creating terrifying sound effects or visuals, Ren Yi chose a much simpler method.
He "switched off" B-050's sight and hearing.
In the absolute silence and darkness, B-050 instinctively pulled the trigger in a frenzy.
"Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat!"
The electromagnetic rifle spat out tongues of eerie blue light. High-energy slugs slammed into the special alloy walls, instantly erupting into blinding sparks.
Within that cramped, sealed pod, stray bullets flew and sparks showered everywhere. The scene was chaotic to the extreme.
However, in front of the surveillance monitors in the control room next door, everyone fell into an eerie silence.
In the eyes of the Doctor and the various staff members, that cloud-like Anomaly, which had seemed so dangerous, elegantly ascended the moment the shots rang out.
As if it had seen through the trajectory patterns long ago, it tumbled gracefully and hovered steadily directly above B-050.
That position was an absolute blind spot for shooting.
Ren Yi looked down from above.
To him, the flashes of fire below were like New Year's fireworks—vibrant, but unable to harm him in the slightest.
He even watched with some interest as B-050 fired in a panicked, disorganized mess.
At this point in the experiment, a difficult problem was placed on the containment organization's desk.
B-013-A had demonstrated astonishing control and uniqueness. It hadn't killed B-050, yet it had caused this fully armed guard to lose control instantly.
The command hall tried to call B-050 through his headset, but in reality, he gave no response.
Inside the sealed pod, stray bullets were still flying; anyone who entered would die.
Sending in more Consumables would likely yield the same result. What they needed was further experimentation.
If they wanted to understand B-013-A's uniqueness, they had to recover B-050, the only living sample.
But who had the ability to get a veteran guard out while he was in the middle of a frantic shooting spree?
Furthermore, B-013-A was watching intently, seemingly looking for an opportunity to escape.
The shooting lasted for a full minute.
Finally, B-050 seemed to realize that all his struggles were futile. He stopped, gasping for breath in the darkness.
Then, under everyone's gaze, he suddenly reversed his grip on the rifle and pressed the muzzle firmly against his own chin.
His experience working for the organization told him that since he couldn't escape this terrifying sensory cage, it was better to give himself a quick end.
"Tsk, truly worthy of having a number in his code. What a ruthless guy."
Watching from mid-air, Ren Yi felt a phantom ache in his teeth.
However, just now, while B-050 was still firing indiscriminately, the Doctor had already spoken, her voice devoid of any emotion.
"We cannot let him die. He is currently the only interactive sample."
She turned her head and looked at B406, the errand boy who had already done quite a bit of running around.
"We need to forcibly separate B-013-A from everything else in the room."
"Use that Anomaly you're in charge of. Deal with it."
