Chapter 259 · Volume 1

Assessment World: Beacon

Once Ren Yi realized what he had heard, his mist-like form stiffened.
Even though he had just arrived in this unfamiliar Native World via the teleportation Beacon, knowing nothing about its power factions, cultural background, or energy systems...
...he could feel the bone-chilling coldness in the words "neutralization procedure" even with his eyes closed.
Terms filled with cold, industrial aesthetics and dehumanization could never imply a friendly invitation in any civilization's context.
What was this?
A disastrous start—a hidden plot that triggered an instant-death check the moment he landed?
Although it wasn't a cultivation world with people flying everywhere, it didn't seem much better.
At least in a cultivation world, he could find some remote corner to hide in.
He wouldn't have faced such a hellish, disastrous start, facing physical deletion the moment he arrived.
Ren Yi didn't dare move. He carefully extended his thin sensory feelers.
Through the perception seeping into the wall cracks, he glimpsed the ferocity hidden beneath the surface of this secret room.
It was an array of weaponry far beyond conventional arms.
This small, sealed room, which looked simple and clean on the outside, hid a murderous intent and ferocity beneath its skin that was terrifyingly absurd.
The wall layers, ceiling compartments, and floor sub-layers were densely packed with honeycomb-like embedded launch ports.
Each hole was dark and deep, like countless emotionless dead-fish eyes, locked onto every inch of the room's center without a single blind spot.
Besides the muzzles, there were many launch devices Ren Yi didn't quite understand, a vast and complete collection.
Given Ren Yi's current Anomaly constitution, a single physical impact or high-energy beam might not kill him.
At most, his True Form would be damaged, scattered, and then reformed.
But a continuous baptism was another story.
His recovery ability was powerful, but it wasn't infinite.
Once the rate of consumption exceeded the reorganization threshold of his Anomaly core, he would be completely "erased" by this room.
Based on the ammunition, energy reserves, and continuous weapon output power he sensed, this secret room could initiate an all-around, saturated bombardment without blind spots for fifteen minutes of high-intensity baptism.
After fifteen minutes of uninterrupted destruction, let alone his mist-like Anomaly body...
...every tangible "matter" would be ground down, scattered, and dismantled into the most primitive microscopic particles.
Long before that, he would have gone to see Death.
What should he do?
Run? Nowhere to go.
The room was clearly airtight; even if Ren Yi turned into a gas, he couldn't slip out.
Fight? The outside was fully armed, weapons loaded; he couldn't face them head-on.
As for the "Raindrop" his brother gave him, there was no target to use it on, and he didn't know anyone's pain, so he couldn't use it.
And the "Pain Bead"—like the revival, a brief period of invincibility was useless.
Furthermore, since no large-volume object had appeared in his original position, he couldn't swap places with anyone outside.
In a flash of thought, Ren Yi subconsciously looked at the only lifesaver in the room.
The only aid for this assessment and the only way out: the Beacon.
In his fully expanded sensory field, he finally "saw" the true appearance of the so-called Beacon.
It was completely different from the rugged, hardcore, heavy-industrial teleportation tower or the "mirrors" that served as Instance gateways.
The Beacon before him was a sphere about the size of a fist.
Its entire body looked as if it were cast from liquid mercury, smooth and translucent, perfect to the extreme.
It rested quietly on a nearby metal display pedestal, its surface having a nearly miraculous, perfect curvature.
Due to its extremely high specular reflectivity, the surrounding 360-degree scenery was compressed and distorted on this small spherical surface.
Amidst the shifting light and shadow, it presented a soul-stirring aesthetic of order, like a work of art left behind by some extraterrestrial civilization.
One look was enough to tell it was no ordinary object.
Ren Yi's resentment toward a certain bald old man in the Alliance flashed briefly.
Who told him the Beacon was just an ordinary teleportation key, a prop he could just shove in his pocket?
And no one told him this "Beacon" looked like a top-secret laboratory creation.
Throwing such an obviously abnormal thing into a world that clearly had organizations dedicated to containing and studying anomalies...
...was like lighting a distress flare in the middle of the night!
Ren Yi didn't have time to keep complaining; survival was more important.
He quickly split off a wisp of consciousness to establish a connection with the Beacon.
The connection process was surprisingly smooth; the Beacon granted him maximum operational authority by default.
Ren Yi was overjoyed and frantically poured his own Anomaly energy into the Beacon.
Even if it didn't teleport him back to the Alliance, as long as it could throw him randomly into some remote mountain or deserted corner of this world, it would be ten thousand times better than waiting for death in this execution chamber!
However, the next second, a line of text appeared in his consciousness.
【Charging started. Current energy: 3%】
【Time required to reach minimum teleportation energy threshold: 76 hours, 24 minutes, 07 seconds】
Ren Yi fell into deep thought.
He looked at the countdown, his heart unruffled, feeling almost like laughing.
So, not only did this thing look like a high-maintenance ancestor, but it also had to be pampered and charged for three days before it would move?
Well, it wasn't too surprising.
This was probably the so-called "minimum exam duration."
Usually, this rule wouldn't matter; his three hellish assessment missions didn't look like they could be finished in three days anyway.
But now, this three-day countdown was like three massive mountains pressing down on his chest, making it hard to breathe.
It was hard to say if he could survive the next three minutes, yet he had to wait three days to escape?
Everything happened in the blink of an eye.
Ren Yi instantly recognized the reality of the situation.
