Chapter 181 · Volume 1

The Enemy's New Unit

“Lord Guardian! The Prism Cannon has been set up!”
“Fire immediately!”
Naturally, they possessed a weapon capable of overcoming such a massive disparity in combat power. Ponuo shouted urgently toward the massive magitech cannon.
The Prism Cannon undoubtedly boasted the most powerful firepower on this battlefield. It was an unstoppable weapon, one where the only choice was to avoid its direct path.
As long as they could fire a single shot—even just one—it would surely turn the tide.
“Wait... those beasts are trying to destroy the Prism Cannon!”
And so, the Great Devourers acted in the manner they had already learned.
Although Celia was elsewhere, she mobilized Lictors and flying species to assault the Prism Cannon, attempting to destroy it.
“We must hold the line. We are not just defending this battlefield, but the fate of the entire world.”
To defend the cannon, Flock, the elven knight commander, brandished his sword and cried out with tragic determination.
It was not just the elven knight order gathered there.
People who had rushed over voluntarily did so regardless of race or unit.
This was their final stand to protect the Prism Cannon—their last hope.
“Let us fight... all of us together.”
Flock lowered his visor, striving to calm his pounding heart, and then charged forward with his sword raised.
His companions surged forward right behind him. The Lictor knights and mages fell into formation, bracing to meet them.
For the Great Devourers, whose genes were engineered from birth solely to serve the colony, there was neither fear nor hesitation.
A so-called “heart” was a luxury permitted only to queen-tier individuals. The soldiers, living as mere cogs in the machine, were no different from automatons.
“Kill them!”
Yet, at this moment, the defenders, united in spirit, also knew no fear.
Determined to overcome their dread, they swung their swords and crashed into the oncoming monsters.
Everyone around them fervently wished for their victory, and the collective power of those prayers seemed to bolster them.
“How foolish.”
Watching them through the eyes of her soldiers, Elise couldn't help but curl her lips in a sneer. Unlike everyone else, she mocked them without mercy.
For when they truly clashed, the only thing that ultimately mattered was raw strength.
“Ah...”
Flock deflected a sweeping talon and severed one of his enemy's arms, letting out a soft grunt.
The attacks unleashed by the Lictor using its two massive scythe-like arms and two humanoid arms were not, as they seemed on the surface, mere mindless flailing of muscle and brute force.
It was a sword technique that masterfully blended deception and lethal intent. This style of combat, once known as the Thrust Slash among the grassland beastkin—renowned for their powerful warriors—was a highly unique form of striking.
Through battling her enemies, Kerrigan had copied and recreated it into her own exclusive swordsmanship. Anyone facing this technique for the first time was invariably struck with panic and astonishment.
In the end, Flock misread a single move, and his body was sliced cleanly in two from head to pelvis, blood spraying violently.
Even an elven knight who had trained for a century to rise to the rank of knight commander had only death waiting for him if he made a single split-second mistake.
“Magic... Get out of the way!”
Flock was not the only victim.
Most of the others who had charged forward with suicidal resolve were brutally slaughtered within a few exchanges of the head-on clash, falling in vain.
It was exactly as Elise had predicted when she mocked them at the start.
“Has their strength really reached such a level? To have both overwhelming numbers and such terrifying martial prowess...”
Ponuo sighed. Those who fought with a resolve to die had failed, and now they had to pay the price for it.
Even as the Lictor mages cast spells to destroy the Prism Cannon, the defenders could only watch in despair.
“W-What?!”
But just then, a violent shockwave slammed into the vicinity of the Prism Cannon. Its sheer force was so immense that it caused both Ponuo and even Elise to freeze, their minds momentarily blanking out.
Amidst the billowing dust, a figure folded back their shimmering elven wings, eyes flashing with light.
‘A new enemy.’
Elise stared at the enemy. She brandished a sword that whipped up a storm of magic power, cleaving through the Lictor knights with a single sweep.
“Ugh... Ahhhh!”
The female elf seemed to be in intense pain, groaning repeatedly before finally letting out a roar that detonated golden magic power.
Except for her face, the spell formulas forcibly carved across her entire body glowed with light.
‘Kill the enemy.’
Lisette had been modified into a weapon of war. Burning away everything else just to fight the foe, she could only act according to her orders.
She sidestepped a Lictor's sword lunging at her, then grabbed its face—which was larger than her own hand—with her bare fingers, instantly crushing its exoskeleton.
Delivering a powerful kick to its staggering body, she sent the thick exoskeleton bursting apart with a loud bang.
“The opponents won't just sit idly by, either.”
Lin Miao observed this scene and remarked calmly.
For as the demands of war grew, it was inevitable that increasingly powerful and further evolved enemies would emerge.
