A witch.
Even without using the Analytic Magic Eye, one could tell from the classic attire alone that she was a witch.
Or at least someone cosplaying as one.
However, what caught Lan Qingyou's eye the most was the weapon she wielded—a massive war scythe.
This thing looked formidable and fierce, but mastering such a weapon was no easy feat.
Yet, the aura the witch displayed while swinging the war scythe made Lan Qingyou feel a genuine threat.
A physical-type witch.
This was Lan Qingyou's first guess without using her Magic Eye.
After all, neither the magic-type nor the summoning-type would use such a melee weapon, nor would they likely engage in close-quarters combat.
So,
Lan Qingyou threw out a golem.
Clang!
The war scythe collided with the pink infantry's Chainsaw Sword, sending out heart-stopping sparks.
Ho ho.
To think there was a weapon that could go toe-to-toe with the new Chainsaw Sword .90 version.
It clearly wasn't some off-brand junk found on the side of the road.
“Oh! Isn't this the Clan Leader? What brings you to this backwater?”
Just as the pink infantry and the witch were clashing blades, another person emerged from the bushes, carrying the corpse of the man the golem had just tossed away.
This person arrived riding a Magic Broom, just like Lan Qingyou.
“Adele, so it's you. I was just passing by and saw something eerie, so I came to satisfy my curiosity. Then I ran into this guy.”
Lan Qingyou gestured with her chin toward the man Adele was holding.
“I see. That truly was a disaster.”
Adele shrugged, clearly not caring about the encounter.
After all, the man was already gone.
“But seriously, what's going on here? Looking at you two, I assume you're the ones who destroyed this place.”
Lan Qingyou looked at the mana on both of them and compared it to the mana residue she had seen on the battle-scarred street earlier. The answer came effortlessly.
Adele had no intention of hiding it.
“Everyone here participated in the attack on the Abandoned Land ten months ago.”
With one sentence, she clearly explained their motive for the raid and why these people were targeted.
“I see. Then they certainly deserved to be destroyed,” Lan Qingyou said, mimicking Adele’s earlier tone.
Yesterday, Diana’s report mentioned that the patrol team and the Tourism Department had been sent out to hunt down those who participated in the attack on the Abandoned Land.
Thinking about it now, both Adele and the witch fighting the pink infantry must be part of that hunting force.
And since the people here were those who had invaded the Abandoned Land, they deserved their fate.
“It's a pity I finished that guy off so quickly. If I had known earlier, I wouldn't have done that. Someone who could escape from you two must be quite durable; I could have played with him longer.”
“It is a pity.”
Adele felt the same regret.
Her plan had been to torture him until he wished he were dead, and then maybe have him kill himself.
In short, she had planned out exactly how to "play" with him, only to find the guy was already dead!
How could Adele not feel frustrated and regretful?
“By the way, who is this?”
Lan Qingyou gestured toward the witch still battling the golem.
The level of a golem scales with the user's level.
Meaning Lan Qingyou now possessed thousands of Level 50 golems. This was a top-tier army anywhere.
“Snow White.”
“Huh? Like the princess?”
Lan Qingyou raised an eyebrow.
“No. On the eve of the war in the Abandoned Land, her friend—another witch—was ambushed. By the time we arrived, only a few bones were left.”
...
See? I told you it affected people.
Lan Qingyou kept her eyebrow raised, with no intention of lowering it.
“So she joined the hunting force?”
“No, she already got her revenge for her friend. Now she’s just eliminating those she considers dangerous elements.”
Adele shook her head.
“And you?”
“I'm just wandering around anyway. Besides, I was the one who provided the potions for her and her friend, so I might as well tag along.”
“I see. So you're trying to atone for your sins,” Lan Qingyou teased with a smile.
Adele responded with a cold sneer.
“Heh, do I look like that kind of person to you?”
“Stop the cold sneer, I’m joking. But it’s true you’re not telling the whole truth.”
However, Lan Qingyou didn't buy it. After answering, she looked directly into Adele's eyes.
Feeling as if her thoughts were being seen through, Adele couldn't help but feel a slight urge to retreat.
“Fine...”
Seeing she couldn't fool Lan Qingyou, Adele told the truth.
“Actually, her friend researched a control spell. But because it was incomplete, I've been trying to improve it lately. My skills aren't quite there yet, though; otherwise, you wouldn't have even run into this guy.”
“Oh, speaking of this guy, what do you plan to do with him? You're not going to carry him around like a toy forever, are you?”
Lan Qingyou pointed at the 'toy' in Adele's hand.
Adele curled her lip and replied dismissively.
“Of course not. Come with me.”
Saying that, Adele turned her broom, prepared to take Lan Qingyou to see the results of her research.
However, there was still a witch nearby fighting the golem.
There's really no helping it... once this troublesome girl starts fighting, she stops considering everything else. Thinking this, Adele shouted at Snow White.
“Hey, Snow White! Stop fighting! She's one of us!”
Since Adele was calling out, Lan Qingyou naturally wouldn't stand by. Seeing someone else's research was, after all, the most important thing.
So, she made a waving gesture while using her mind to recall the golem.
!?
An opponent she was just in the heat of battle with suddenly vanished before her eyes. Even the well-traveled Snow White was momentarily dazed.
While she was still trying to figure out what was happening, a voice told her to follow.
It was Adele’s voice.
At that moment, snapping out of her combat state, she realized there was an extra person in the field.
Judging by the attire and the way she sat on her broom, she was clearly a witch, just like herself.
And the Adele she respected seemed to hold this person in high regard. Thus, Snow White put away her weapon and gave Lan Qingyou a very polite bow.
Then, the three of them sat on their respective brooms and headed toward the overgrown grassland.
