Chapter 365 · Volume 1

I'm Only at My Peak When I'm Drunk

In Seymer’s theory, the moment mana is emitted from your body and "turns" into magic is essentially the power at which the mana passes through the body to be discharged.
Different output levels occur depending on the intended position of the spell.
This output level is what determines the power of the magic.
Lan Qingyou had just used this theory to consciously control her mana output, adjusting the power of her mana bullet to its minimum before firing.
This explained why knowledge could be leveled up, while the level of a spell remained fixed.
After all, knowledge was absorbed from the outside, accumulating bit by bit from little to much.
Magic, however, was an emission from the inside out; its capacity was predetermined.
Although the theory seemed simple on paper and sounded easy to explain, actually achieving that simplicity after understanding the theory was something only a witch could do.
The reason was simple: the Magic Eye.
This eye, which could observe mana changes without the need for any magic tools, was essentially a cheat-level existence.
Lan Qingyou relied on these eyes to observe her own mana output and perform fine-tuning at the very moment of emission to achieve the exact result she wanted.
One could say that something like a mana bullet was essentially a form of non-attribute mana.
In that regard, it was equivalent to the mana water used in brewing potions.
To the witches, who were alchemists by nature, this was incredibly familiar territory.
So, the question arose.
What would happen if one added their desired, familiar, or preferred attribute to this non-attribute mana?
A water attribute would naturally turn it into water element magic.
A fire attribute would naturally turn it into fire element magic.
Of course, this required learning attribute conversion; otherwise, things could easily go wrong.
However, everyone and every theory was still in the exploratory stage right now.
Everyone knew there were risks and that things could go wrong.
But no one could suppress their thirst for discovery.
Because those who stopped moving forward were already dead.
Rather than dying in this cruel realm of magic without trying to improve, it was better to conduct research and break through one's limits time and time again.
The evolution from human to witch was a very successful breakthrough.
After receiving and reviewing Seymer’s manuscript, Alisa also successfully mastered this skill that was neither truly simple nor overly complex.
The rest depended on how an individual developed, positioned, and outputted it.
For the two of them, this wasn't a major hurdle.
While Alisa was reviewing the thesis, Lan Qingyou had already sent the photos of the manuscript taken by the people of the villa to Diana one by one.
Witch of the Tower: “This is a thesis written by a chemistry professor named Seymer. The main topic is how to learn, use, and create magic without relying on rewards from the world consciousness.”
Witch of Knowledge: “Is this thesis really that miraculous?”
Witch of the Tower: “Absolutely. I’ve read it once, and I’m basically certain it’s the real deal. Moreover, witches with Magic Eyes are much better suited for this theory than anyone else.”
Witch of Knowledge: “Understood. I’ll have people transcribe it immediately and then start mass printing.”
As the Witch of Knowledge, Diana had basically finished reading the important introductory parts of the thesis while Lan Qingyou was still talking.
Not only that, but she also personally 'checked' the mobilization of mana within her own body when casting a spell.
After receiving Lan Qingyou’s confirmation and seeing the results of her own observation, she immediately found Margaret to begin large-scale production.
In Diana’s view, Lan Qingyou was right about one thing.
This theory was indeed very suitable for witches with Magic Eyes to learn.
As for those without Magic Eyes... they could likely learn it too, but it would be much more troublesome compared to the witches.
After all, they couldn't easily see the flow and intensity of mana like a witch could; they had to rely on personal perception to slowly feel it out.
That process would undoubtedly be very long.
Therefore, only those particularly sensitive to mana would likely succeed; it was hard to say if the theory could be applied to everyone else.
This wasn't just the conclusion of Lan Qingyou and Diana.
It was a consensus reached by everyone who had finished reviewing the manuscript.
But again, although it was difficult, having something was better than having nothing.
This was the first step on the path of 'self-developed magic.' The next step would be how to improve and perfect this theory to make it more suitable for the masses.
So, not just Lan Qingyou, but others were also sending photos of this theory back to their own bases, hoping to stay one step ahead.
Of course, that was only relative.
After all, everyone knew they couldn't bypass the hurdle that was the Witch race.
...
While everyone was studying the thesis, the people below were beating each other senseless.
“It’s strange. Why hasn't a single one of us who entered early been called to the stage yet?”
After finishing her chat with Diana, Lan Qingyou picked up her tablet and started watching the live combat feeds.
Contrary to what everyone had initially thought about the tournament taking a long time, Lan Qingyou realized as she began paying attention that these matches might not be as 'grand' as she had imagined.
Usually, an arena would be surrounded and watched by crowds.
But in reality, every second, the arena was constantly and randomly drawing people from the spectator stands.
Consequently, the arena below began to split continuously.
From the symbolic hundred or so stages at the start, it had now split into at least ten thousand stages.
One could truly do whatever they wanted when space was infinite.
There was simply no need to worry about the size of the venue.
Fortunately, perhaps because the tournament was organized too hastily, they didn't implement the scenic combat system.
Otherwise, you would see different terrains, landscapes, climates, and temperatures on every stage.
The current setup was fine—nothing at all, perfectly clear, and combatants faced each other the moment they stepped up, saving a lot of time spent on searching and hiding.
“Who knows? Maybe it's because we're too powerful, so they're saving us for the grand finale.”
Hearing Lan Qingyou’s complaint, Olf laughed loudly, holding a wine glass and clearly already wasted.
“Chariot, aren't you afraid someone will set fire to that beard you're so proud of the moment you step onto the stage like that? If it were me, I definitely would.”
Lan Qingyou had no patience for a drunkard like him.
Switching directly into her venomous tongue mode, she began attacking Olf, who could barely even keep his tongue straight.
“Not afraid. I'm only at my peak when I'm drunk.”
Olf waved her off, completely unbothered by Lan Qingyou’s verbal jabs.
“But the fact that we haven't been drawn yet... no matter how you look at it, it contradicts the rules on the tablet.”
