Chapter 360 · Volume 1

Seymer, Epoch-making Research

As a mentor, Seymer was still very concerned about his student.
After looking her over carefully and seeing that she was dressed in the style of a witch, he couldn't help but ask about it.
“Yes, Teacher. I became a witch. However, unlike the Witches of the High Tower, I use a witch potion that I developed myself. That is why my lineage of witches has blue eyes,” Alisa said, her chest swelling with pride as she addressed her mentor.
Since she belonged to a different faction of witches and had achieved this through her own independent research without relying on others, she certainly had reason to be proud.
Most importantly, she could finally hold her head high in front of her mentor. How could she not feel a surge of pride?
“Speaking of which, Teacher, why are you on the third-floor spectator area? You don't look like a Clan Leader. Instead...”
At this point, Alisa glanced at the Magician among the members of Tarot Villa.
Her teacher’s race, whether in terms of skin color or the mana field radiating from him, was extremely similar to that person. They had to be of the same race.
“Oh, oh, I almost forgot about that.”
Reminded, Seymer slapped his forehead and pulled a document from his card, handing it to Lan Qingyou.
“Hmm?”
Alisa couldn't help but frown slightly at the sight.
From her teacher’s actions, it was obvious that Lan Qingyou must have invited him here previously.
But why give her a document? Was there some sort of collaborative project?
Lan Qingyou paid no mind to the petty, mature woman. She took the document and began to read.
“You mentioned before that your Tarot Villa has a habit of writing papers. Although I haven't joined yet, that doesn't stop me from writing one.”
“This is the result of my research. Everything I have achieved at this stage is in there.”
While Lan Qingyou was reading the thesis, Seymer spoke incessantly about himself and his research.
Now, it wasn't just Lan Qingyou or Alisa; even the people standing nearby understood what Professor Seymer was talking about—or rather, what he was researching.
《Insights on the Development and Daily Application of Mana Utilization and Magic Expansion》
Although the title of the paper sounded very imposing, in plain English, it was about how to develop magic on one's own without relying on rewards from the world consciousness.
Currently, almost all magic was obtained through rewards from the world consciousness.
Even the magic knowledge scrolls of the Witches of Knowledge were merely transcriptions based on magic that had already been acquired.
This method—where only those who already possessed magic could transcribe it for others—seemed simple, but it was not without risks.
For example, there were risks of transcription failure or learning failure.
Some people even suffered varying degrees of backlash after a failure. This backlash felt somewhat like being drunk—not particularly severe, but backlash was still backlash. If it happened too often, it would leave internal injuries in the body.
If Seymer's research succeeded, it would mean that in the future, there would be no need for magic scrolls to 'transfer skills.'
One would only need to research the learning conditions for a spell and then teach it to others.
No wonder Professor Seymer was so desperate for evolution items, especially those with mana-related bonuses.
If it weren't for the fact that this research was truly high-level, Lan Qingyou suspected that Professor Seymer wouldn't have been so eager to 'sell' himself.
It was normal; Lan Qingyou understood. After all, some researchers worked for money, some for power, and others for interest or fame.
Clearly, Professor Seymer belonged to the latter category.
“Hello, Professor Seymer. My name is Chu Yuan, and I am one of the founders of Tarot Villa. I would like to formally invite you to join us.”
As soon as Professor Seymer finished explaining the specifics of his research, Chu Yuan straightened his clothes and stepped forward to extend an invitation.
What a joke. How could Tarot Villa, which was originally built on academic research, pass up such a giant of the academic world?
Moreover, the man’s research was likely to influence the future history of the Kalim continent. Under such circumstances, Chu Yuan naturally stepped forward to win him over.
Chu Yuan had the sensitivity of a political figure, which was normal, but that didn't mean others lacked it—especially the guy standing right next to him who worked in the same place.
“Hello, Professor Seymer. I am Piamon, one of the founders of The Masquerade. I also formally invite you to join us.”
The second Chu Yuan finished speaking, Piamon stepped forward to make his stance clear.
“I know about Tarot Villa. The Witch Queen told me it’s a place for academics. But what exactly is this Masquerade of yours?”
Seymer was naturally very happy to be recruited by people from the 'academic world.'
In the professor's eyes, Tarot Villa and its members were the top tier of this world’s academic community.
However, he had indeed never heard of The Masquerade. In fact, forget Professor Seymer; even Lan Qingyou and the others had never heard of it.
Seeing that the professor wasn't familiar with them, Piamon prepared to explain the nature of The Masquerade.
However, before he could speak, Chu Yuan beat him to it.
“It’s just a counterfeit organization that imitates Tarot Villa. There isn't much of an academic atmosphere there.”
Chu Yuan spread his hands, closed his eyes, and shook his head with an air of mock pity.
His posture was as punchable as could be. Piamon watched from the side with gritted teeth and glaring eyes, his fists clenched, but he couldn't lash out.
There was nothing he could do. What Chu Yuan said was the truth, so he couldn't explode. If he did, it would only give the other man more ammunition to attack him.
“You can't say that. Your student Alisa gained the recognition of the world consciousness and was granted the World Title of Witch of the Workshop through her research in biological alchemy.”
“Besides her, our Masquerade also has Yu Ziqi, who researches magic meteorology; Jesse Kong, who crafts magic weapons; and Tony Doni, who researches magic beauty and hair styling.”
To win over Seymer, Piamon worked very hard.
And the people from his organization, upon being named, stepped forward cooperatively to make an appearance. Among them was Tony Doni, the man with the red mohawk who had appeared at the auction.
“What a coincidence. Our Tarot Villa has Hells Mo, who researches geography; David Angel, who researches magic and the nature of mana; Vivian, who researches magic crystals and gems; Jiang Lan, who researches magic plants; and Gu Xiaobei, who researches magic gourmet...”
“Ah... there are too many. Truly too many. I can't even remember who else...”
