Chapter 247 · Volume 1

Announcement from the Supreme Council

Aside from some ores, materials, and herbs, most of it was cooking ingredients.
Although Lan Qingyou and Spoon's involvement allowed them to basically strip every dungeon of its magic tools and other valuables...
The haul was still a far cry from what they had found in Undead Bay.
Justice: "Everyone, I have something I need a little help with."
Just as the sixth mana turbulence was about to arrive, that fellow Chu Yuan sent out a message that caught everyone off guard.
High Priestess: "Help? Us?"
Justice: "Yes."
Empress: "All of us?"
Justice: "Yes."
The Moon: "What is it exactly?"
Justice: "The preparations are mostly finished, so I'm hoping everyone can help spread the word."
Wheel of Fortune: "You mean the teleportation arrays and the currency are ready?"
Justice: "Yes. Not only that, several of the Magician's Adventurers' Guilds have been established. Also, quite a few Witches have mastered the Tower's Five Dragon Reincarnation Magic Circle."
The Tower: "That fast?"
Lan Qingyou was quite surprised by this.
It had only been about two months. While not exactly a short time, it wasn't very long either. She hoped they hadn't cut any corners.
Justice: "It's not that fast, really. It's mainly because I gave some people who were straight-A students back on Blue Star the chance to evolve. Learning became much easier for them."
Once he realized the complexity of the knowledge Witches needed to learn, Chu Yuan had sought out several straight-A students and academic geniuses.
As a result, they wouldn't lose to anyone when it came to studying.
They were only slightly behind right now because they were dealing with entirely new knowledge.
The Tower: "In that case, it sounds quite good. But I must say, the main bodies of those arrays are best connected to actual shelters."
Justice: "Of course."
Righteousness: "Helping with the promotion is no problem, but what's in it for us? [smiles]"
Justice: "There are benefits, of course. For example, vending rights in the Adventurers' Guild. After all, we can't expect the horse to run without feeding it."
Righteousness: "Haha! That's what I like to hear. Good, very good."
Seeing that there was profit to be had, not just Righteousness, but everyone else in the villa broke into happy smiles.
Any place with high foot traffic was a goldmine, no matter what you sold.
Setting aside the juice and alcohol from Righteousness's books, there were Lan Qingyou's potions, the High Priestess's crystals, The Star's armor and tents, the Empress's vegetables, the Magician's cards, and so on. These were all essential goods that would surely sell out.
Thus, no one objected.
It was just a matter of copying, pasting, and tapping on a keyboard.
And so...
"Announcement: Following deliberations by the Kalim Supreme Council, the Council's newly minted currency is hereby issued starting today. All transmigrators may exchange any materials for it. The rate is tentatively set at ten basic materials for one copper coin. 100 copper coins exchange for 1 silver coin, and 100 silver coins exchange for 1 gold coin."
Clack, clack, clack, clack—
Just like when the Supreme Council was first established, the first 'Announcement' was followed by a string of identical 'Announcements.' This immediately dumbfounded the spectators who camped on the world channel every day to watch the drama.
"Wait, what is this Supreme Council thinking?"
"Currency?"
"We've freaking transmigrated to another world and you're still thinking about harvesting leeks? Damned capitalists!"
"Anyway, I'm not exchanging anything for those copper coins."
"They actually went with a base-100 system. It's as considerate as a video game."
"Hahaha, true. With that exchange rate, wouldn't a newbie earn dozens of copper coins just by working eight hours a day?"
"The capitalists are saying: You have money now, kid, it's time to spend it."
"I don't know what these people are thinking. We've lived like this for nearly half a year, and now they insist on pulling this stunt."
"Yeah, everyone's used to bartering now. Currency is completely unnecessary, isn't it?"
Seeing the Supreme Council's new move, everyone began their mockery.
Anyone with half a brain could figure out that issuing this stuff was just a way to seize legitimacy—or rather, to get everyone to recognize this makeshift outfit assembled by who-knows-how-many people.
Hah!
I refuse!
As long as I don't use it, your makeshift outfit is still just a makeshift outfit.
That was essentially the thought process for many people after seeing the spamming messages.
It wasn't exactly a contrarian streak; they simply didn't like these people who had previously operated under the banner of the Blue Star Federation.
Don't ask why, they just didn't.
"Announcement II: Following deliberations by the Kalim Supreme Council, it has been decided to install teleportation arrays in over a hundred regions, including the Gravel Wilderness, Bone-burying Land, Quiet Coast, Twin Moon Bay, Golden Plains, West Wind Plateau, and Abandoned Land. For only 10 copper coins, you can enjoy teleportation services to all regions except private territories. Teleportation arrays for more regions will be opened in the future. Please stay tuned."
...
The people who had been in mockery mode fell into a collective silence after seeing the second announcement spamming the screen.
What am I seeing?
Installing teleportation arrays? In over a hundred regions? Teleportation for only 10 copper coins? More regions coming later?
Am I still dreaming?
Heh, right, that must be it. Otherwise, how could I be having a dream like this?
"Announcement III: Following deliberations by the Kalim Supreme Council, the 'Adventurers' Guild' is officially established. Everyone can spend one silver coin to obtain an Adventurer Card and register as an adventurer to accept corresponding missions."
"Adventurer Cards feature functions such as chat, storage, transfer, positioning, scanning, and photography, making them convenient for use in the wilderness."
Dun-dun-dun!!?
When Announcement III appeared, a powerful burst of music seemed to echo in the hearts of everyone who thought they were still dreaming.
This isn't scientific!
This isn't scientific at all!
Chat, storage, transfer, positioning, scanning, and photography!?
The functions of this Adventurer Card heavily overlap with those of the magic desk. Is the Supreme Council trying to completely replace the magic desk?
No, that's not right.
The magic desk won't be replaced.
After all, the magic desk still has the identification function and shelter upgrades. Those two functions alone aren't something an Adventurer Card can replace.
However... this card seems very convenient.
At the very least, the storage function's utility in the wilderness would certainly be significant.
Whether it was for hauling goods or doing something else, it would be extremely handy.
Besides that, although they didn't know what the positioning and scanning functions were, the fact that they were specifically mentioned instead of being lumped into an 'etc.' meant they had their merits.
So, should I register as an adventurer?
It's only about two or three days' worth of income, after all. Although it's a bit pricey, the value for money is high. It's acceptable.
No, no, no! Didn't we agree to boycott these Supreme Council guys?! How could I be bought off by such a small convenience?!
I can't! I must stay true to my principles!
I will never let myself be a leek for these remnants of the Blue Star Federation to harvest.
What a joke.
It was bad enough being a beast of burden back on Blue Star. Now that I've finally escaped that predicament, am I really going to rush back to be harvested?
Wouldn't that mean I crossed over for nothing?
