Chapter 239 · Volume 1

Because I’m Uncultured Too

After all, she was just a dividend-earning mine shareholder; she didn't participate in business operations.
However, she hadn't expected Thorium ore to be used for this. She could only say that the people in the Kalim Supreme Council were truly willing to pay a heavy price to gain the recognition of all the transmigrators.
“Boss Lan, let me see them.”
Standing nearby, Gu Xiaobei, who had teleported to the High Tower shelter with Lan Qingyou, looked on eagerly.
“Don't you have your own?”
“My cards are all full. If I take them out, I have to carry them, and I find that too troublesome.”
“Didn't you give the steel plates in your cards to Chu Yuan?”
“I did, but I kept a bit. I plan to take them back and make a few pots.”
...
Fair enough.
Everyone had their own little needs.
So, Lan Qingyou handed the currency in her hand to Gu Xiaobei.
Anyway, she didn't lack money. As an alchemist, she wasn't interested in money and had never even touched it.
Compared to tacky things like gold coins, Lan Qingyou currently wanted to take stock of what she had gained from the dungeon.
She had earned what others earned, and she had earned what others hadn't.
It could be said that her harvest from this dungeon was second only to the Hierophant, who had obtained the World Item.
However, none of the participants had any objections to this. After all, Lan Qingyou had essentially faced the final giant eyeball alone; they hadn't contributed much effort. Therefore, it was only natural for Lan Qingyou to take a bit more.
She had the Sunlight Stone, which could serve as the eye of a magic circle; the composite steel plates for crafting alchemy pedestals; over a hundred magic items with attribute bonuses and enchantments; more than six thousand Soul Crystals; five full Ksuya's Tears; and the Ksuya's Eye, which would continuously produce tears in the future.
She had made a killing, a literal fortune.
The original ten Ksuya's Tears had been distributed by Lan Qingyou during the 'loot split' according to a 5:3:2 ratio.
She took five; The Sun, who had repelled the seawater, took three; and Wheel of Fortune, who had prepared the syringe, received two.
It had to be said that Lan Qingyou's method of distribution—where rewards matched contribution—made everyone feel that this system would be very suitable for the future.
“Alright, you've seen enough. Let's get the business done first, or it'll be dark soon.”
Looking at the sun about to set and the half-red sky outside, Lan Qingyou gave Gu Xiaobei a nudge.
“Oh, right.”
Gu Xiaobei shuddered at the mention of it getting dark. The nights on the Kalim continent were no joke; it was better to finish up early.
So, Gu Xiaobei followed Lan Qingyou for a lap around the area.
Specifically, she ran around the entire edge of the magic circle on foot.
Even though Lan Qingyou was sitting on her Magic Broom right above her, and even though Lan Qingyou invited her to fly together more than once, she turned a deaf ear.
Of course.
Because she was an evolved being, the Tree Elf Gu Xiaobei didn't blush or pant after running a lap. She even had the energy to comment on Lan Qingyou's magic circle and some of the things inside.
Lan Qingyou had zero interest in her commentary.
Instead, she turned her gaze toward the War Treant saplings.
Although they had been planted for a while, these saplings had barely grown.
But things were different now. With the talent augmentation of the Tree Elf Gu Xiaobei, these War Treants were growing incredibly fast.
The saplings, which had only been as thick as an arm, suddenly expanded until they were as thick as the rim of a large bowl.
While they were still a far cry from the War Treants Lan Qingyou had encountered, which were a meter or more in diameter, she was satisfied with the results.
At least Gu Xiaobei's visit wasn't in vain.
As the sun set and night descended, the scenery inside the shelter underwent a sudden transformation.
With the sun gone, various lights immediately appeared within the magic circle.
There were the blue dots of light like fireflies emanating from the magic circle's patterns, the Glow Mushrooms Lan Qingyou had sown earlier, and the magic lanterns hanging around.
These light sources combined to create a fantastical scene within the magic circle. Gu Xiaobei, who had run into the shelter as soon as it got dark, immediately ran back out to see it.
“Beautiful, so beautiful. It's just like a scene described in a fairy tale.”
Gu Xiaobei said in a very cheerful tone, twirling and jumping among the little points of light with her arms wide open.
She had seen this scene in the group chat before.
But only when standing there in person did she realize that photos were nothing compared to the real thing.
“It's scary how uncultured you are. Can't you say something a bit more poetic?”
Someone was praising the 'garden' she designed, so Lan Qingyou was naturally happy. Her grin was harder to suppress than the recoil of an AK-47, so she couldn't help but tease her.
“Yeah, yeah, I really am uncultured. Why don't you give us a couple of lines then, Boss Lan?”
Teased by Lan Qingyou, Gu Xiaobei didn't mind at all, skipping from one side to the other on her toes like a ballet dancer.
“You want me to describe it?”
“Yes.”
“Hmm... It's just like a scene described in a fairy tale.”
Snap!
That sudden bit of cheek caught the dancing Gu Xiaobei completely off guard. She lost her footing and fell straight into a drainage ditch.
The Steel Wool and Spoon, who had been running wildly in the yard, paused at the commotion.
“Why are you stealing my lines?!”
Before she could even climb out of the ditch, Gu Xiaobei propped herself up and looked up at Lan Qingyou.
“Because I'm uncultured too,” Lan Qingyou said matter-of-factly.
In terms of age, Lan Qingyou was two or three years older than Gu Xiaobei, but if they were talking about academic background, the eighteen-year-old Gu Xiaobei might actually be more educated than Lan Qingyou, who was a junior high dropout.
“Fine, fine. Let's eat. Let's eat first. Where's the kitchen in this place?”
When facing someone shameless, the first thing you should do is not argue with them; otherwise, it would never end.
Realizing she hadn't eaten anything since the afternoon, Gu Xiaobei wanted to cook a meal in this beautiful and wondrous space.
She considered it unlocking a new map for herself.
“What kitchen? Do I look like the kind of person who has a kitchen?”
Hearing the word, Lan Qingyou gave a cold, snorting laugh.
“I didn't think so either.”
Shaking her head, Gu Xiaobei took out her integrated kitchen from her card and tossed an ever-burning torch into the hearth.
“What do you want to eat today?”
“I'll eat whatever you make.”
“Then let's keep it simple and have some barbecue.”
“No objections.”
With Lan Qingyou's agreement, Gu Xiaobei got straight to work, taking out a basket of fish and vegetables to start grilling.
Crackling—Sizzle—
Fat dripped onto the glowing charcoal, making a mouth-watering sound. The air was filled with the aroma of cumin, chili powder, and green onions.
The Steel Wool and Spoon, who had been running around, were now sitting properly at the table Lan Qingyou had brought out.
Lan Qingyou herself had long since sat at the table with her chopsticks ready.
The table was a magic desk, though not her original one; it was a desk that had lost its function, salvaged from another destroyed shelter.
