“Whoa! Nothing but question marks?”
She hadn't expected much, but what she saw gave her quite a shock.
The creature frozen in ice turned out to be a little white mouse.
Of course, that wasn't the surprising part.
The real shocker was what the identification glasses displayed.
【?? Mouse (?)】
【Health: ???】
【Mana: ???】
【Skills: (???) (???)】
【Description: ???】
I see. This is something far beyond my ability to handle.
Lan Qingyou clicked her tongue.
After all, her identification glasses could currently only see through things up to D-grade.
Aside from knowing it was some kind of 'mouse' that matched its appearance, everything else about it was a mystery.
This meant the creature was at least C-grade, if not higher.
What exactly was it? Should she keep it by her side and raise it? Would it be dangerous?
She had absolutely no answers to these questions.
It was a bit of a headache, but there was a certain thrill to it as well.
Judging by what that squad leader had said, this was something even Sherlock was looking for.
What kind of cheap goods would a slave owner—a guy who made everyone else do his fighting for him—value so highly?
As the creator of golems, Lan Qingyou felt she had a professional right to judge such things.
The problem was, she really couldn't control this thing.
“Squeak—!”
While Lan Qingyou was lost in thought, the ten-second freeze ended. The little white mouse regained its freedom and, seizing the moment while she was distracted, leaped from her hands and vanished into the tent.
“Uh...”
Lan Qingyou was momentarily stunned.
However, she wasn't too worried.
The tent was only so big. Without her opening the door, it had nowhere to go. Besides, there wasn't much clutter inside; everything was visible at a glance. No matter how well it could hide, there were only so many places it could go.
Catching it was only a matter of time.
Sure enough, Lan Qingyou didn't even have to lift a finger. Steel Wool swooped down in a blur, snatched the squeaking mouse in its claws, and flew back to her side to claim its reward.
“Oh! Look what my darling has caught for me!”
Lan Qingyou spoke with the exaggerated theatricality of a poorly dubbed foreign film. She gave Steel Wool an affectionate pat on the head and then lifted the little white mouse by its tail.
Hum!
In that instant, Lan Qingyou felt a sharp, clear mental attack strike her mind.
“Hiss—”
She let out a sharp breath as a headache flared up. Her grip loosened, giving the mouse another chance to escape.
However...
Thud!
Before the little mouse could even move its legs, Steel Wool pinned it to the ground with a claw, leaving it squeaking frantically.
Perhaps its cries were annoying Steel Wool, or perhaps the golem was angry that it had attacked Lan Qingyou.
Having recaptured the creature, Steel Wool leaned down and stuffed the mouse halfway into its mouth. All that remained visible were two short legs, a slightly pinkish tail, and a round little bottom.
“Good job! You didn't let me down!”
Lan Qingyou, still nursing a slight headache, gave Steel Wool a big thumbs up.
